Listen! Detangling was the bane of my existence 😩I dreaded wash days. I was a loose natural from 2014-2020. I got my sister locks in April. My life changed forever! I was freeeeee! My afro was huge but it stopped growing. I remember telling people that I loved my afro too much to lock it. I should have known better. This is the best hair decision I've ever made!

I looooved wash day as a 4c. Love me hair. But I had always wanted locs. The day when twisting my hair into lookalike locs started to take too long, I said, screw it, I'm locking it. And I havent looked back since. 6yrs locd. Im so minimalist. I use natural products. An oil, shampoo conditioner and a massager, tea rinses and coconut milk... Thats it. My hair is thriving. Mannn look! Locing up my 4C 3 months ago was the best thing I could have done 😭 The detangling literally made me want to cry when I had it in a natural puff. But since I’ve been loced I’m noticing growth, easier for me to put in styles (although I usually have my scarf on to protect my hair ) and it’s all around easier to manage.
My first retwist took forever (literally days LOL) since Ive started and retwisted myself but my second retwist was much shorter and I’m sure I’ll get faster as I go 🥳

Loose ends question though! I was wondering if you noticed your loose ends changing a lot as you washed your hair more back when you had baby locs? At first all of my ends (literally no exceptions) were frizzy/puffy but over the past almost 3 months, I've noticed that an increasing number have developed more defined, coiled ends with each wash while others have continued to do their own thing. I have very kinky, very high shrinkage 4a/b hair and I want locs for all the same reasons. I literally at one point was keeping a calendar so I could plan events around when my hair would be out in a flattering style and not in a protective style. And felt like I was hiding the rest of the time. I want to wake up with cute ready to go hair everyday.
I am just trying to decide the best size/method. I don’t think I want tiny sister locs (like 400+) and I don’t think I want traditional locs either (pencil sized). I’m thinking something in between. I LOVE full hair and look best with full hair so that’s the main factor for me, whatever method will get me the most volume. I have fine/medium strands. Even tho my density is medium and on the low end of thick in some places, I still have to do a lot to get a voluminous look bc of my texture and how my hair shrinks on itself so much.

I would say go to a few locticians, explain to them the look you are going for, and ask for their recommendations. I would also ask to see samples of their work, that prove that they can give you what you are looking for. Good luck on your journey! It sounds like you are taking time to do the necessary research to make sure you can get what you want.
