    Nobody ever talks about grodan gro cubes! I switched over to them after using hugos and slabs for years. I love how great they work. Its like potted plants but with all the benefits of rockwool. DO A VID ON GRO CUBES EVEREST PLEASE!! LOL

    Great post (as always), I've learned a lot from your channel. One game-changing tip I recently learned with using rockwool cubes is instead of using Unislabs, just buy a cheap piece of felt batting ($10 off eBay shipping included), put it in your tray, then use panda poly film (with squares cut out to drop the cubes into) to cover the entire tray. Flood the tray every 4 hours with just enough to soak the felt, and then your roots will start filling up the entire tray and yields dramatically increase for super cheap. There's a channel called Grow Your Own that explains in much more detail. Cheers!

      @bradkillins 6 лет назад

      Hey, I've seen that exact method as well! I believe 4 inch cubes were on top of the felt batting, and they were using an ebb/flow system, the entire root system was covered in thick poly to block out the light. Not sure which would be better the uni-slab vs the felt, most likely the uni-slab, but the felt is pennies in comparison.

    • @ronduchamp2418
      @ronduchamp2418 6 лет назад

      If you use uni-slabs, then your entire tray won't fill up with roots if covered. And yeah, you can get felt on eBay or at Joanne Fabrics for a fraction of the cost.

    I dont like to use Rockwool, but loved the video.
    I work in 23.000sqm greenhouse and they use compost in peat pots in a NFT to grow spices and salad.
    I think the choice of media is always a question of what you grow and how your setup.
    Loved the video as always.

    Just finishing using a uni slab for the first time and something i didn't like was that it seemed like the slab had trouble getting wet all the way through when pouring through the 4" block that i set on top. The water would run right through (wetting the central column) and then drain out the slits at the bottom before it had time to effectively wet the rest of the uni slab. I'm eager to examine my uni slab after my harvest and inspect my root system, however i suspect it will look very much like yours. Lots of roots grouped at the bottom and not spread throughout the slab. My solution was to cut slits on the top side of the slab towards the edges and then pour a little bit of solution through them to make sure the slab had moisture throughout. I also started pouring excess solution in the dish i had the slab in so the water level was above the bottom slits in hopes that the slab would wick up as much as it needed. With this i had to look out for my nutrients getting to strong because of evaporation, but it was manageable. Maybe I'll try uni slabs again in the future, but I'm going to put my drainage slits half an inch or so from the bottom so when i water a little bit pools there and will be wicked up to wet the entire slab.
    Thanks for the video, long time viewer!

    I know just what you should do with some of your chills make a salsa grab one slice of onion one tomato 🍅one tooth of garlic 2 chills and and salt (how much is up to you I add a pinch only ) then fry the whole tomato and the slice of onion and the chills in some olive oil until you see them kinda burnt on the sides that you put against the pan (only 2 sides) and then blend everything
    With so much chills you are bound to get the Taco Bell shits, happy shiting

    • @jeffb6276
      @jeffb6276 5 лет назад +1

      I know in a perfect world it would be dope to have food grade PP used, but the equation leechable chemicals divided by the weight of the non food safe PP then divided again by the time it takes to leech (consider how many harvests it will take to get a percent) you'll find that your school water pipes harm you more than using a HDX tote for a RDWC venture

      Not to mention the burning plastic in the air from garbage plants or people who light their garbage on fire.... I'm totally behind you on the safety, I've even made this comment before but that's when I didn't know the severity behind the lack of care we have in this world.

    You can grow monster plants in hugos...much larger than 3 feet! You just need to water more frequently (as the plant calls for it). You can also use the regular 4" cubes (2.5" tall) on top of the unislabs.

    I grow cannabis and I use a 6+6 block and set it upon a unislabs, grow is indoors also I feed manually daily. is the 6+6 block and the unislabs enough to run the whole cycle. Thanks Jimmy Miller

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  Год назад

      HiJimmy, yes this is more than enough. A wide-leaved (smaller root zone) variety can be grown full lifecycle after a 7-10 day veg period in a 4" x 4" rockwool block if correctly irrigated. The volume of rockwool you describe is sufficient for a much longer vegetative cycle for any type of hybrid or narrow-leaved (larger root zone) cultivar. You could try setting a 4" x 4" block on top of the uni slabs - it could give you a little more physical stability.

    Actually as a commercial grower i dont use both of them genarally you choose a long stonewool slap + as more high tech your grow is as smaller buffer you want for your stonewool
    Thruthermore actully what the grodan qubes are designt for is cannabis i am pretty sure i cant say it with 100% certaincy but the chance is very hight nothing against "cannabis sativa" amazing plant if its for fibers with hemp or medical aplications but you would choose those qubes only because you have diffrent growing plants with diffrent harvest times for example and they are more easy to move around but from a comercial standpoint the long slaps have large advantages

      If you’re talking about the one I had above my Chillies in bubble buckets, that was a total disaster, but nothing to do with the light - it was just too warm in my attic in late summer and I couldn’t get temperatures down enough to steer my chillies into flowering and fruiting. I cut them back several times but gave up in the end (I had so many from my plants downstairs) - I intend to repeat the experiment in a better environment and also with significantly more aeration in the buckets. I documented it all and will incorporate the lessons learned into a video soon.

    • @devjyarn
      @devjyarn 5 лет назад

      Single use, unfortunately, but all of the stone wool is completely compostable since it's just super heated mineral rock. Makes for a rich, aerated compost.

    • @devjyarn
      @devjyarn 3 года назад

      @MrJre4491 no, it will not breakdown and return to organic matter, but it is a natural rock product like perlite. It's good for aeration in heavy soils. I mix 1 part rockwool & compost in with about 4 parts of my local clay soil.

    • @devjyarn
      @devjyarn 3 года назад

      @MrJre4491 that's a totally fair point. I don't believe hydroponics will ever be 100% kind to the planet, but I do think smart uses and reuses of products can get a grower closer. When it comes to safe and consistent production rockwool is great, but it's not the only option. I would also point out that perlite is a non renewable resource that needs to be mined, the pros and cons of every growing system need to be considered. For example I refuse to grow larger scale indoors; Hybrid greenhouse is the only responsible option.

    holy cow this is way too much work. i've been doing DWC in 5 gallon buckets for years and i have to work 15 minutes a day to top off reservoirs and 1 hour every sunday to change them. i don't have to buy anything new for each harvest, everything is reusable, and my plants are 7 to 10 ounces each. i don't even use airstones anymore, i just bare hose it.

    • @Just4Growers
      @Just4Growers  6 лет назад +1

      DWC rules - if you know what you’re doing. Personally NFT is my go-to method which shares many of the same benefits you mention. Still, as far as media go, stonework is king. :)

    • @chris_topher1984
      @chris_topher1984 6 лет назад

      i do 3 gallon reservoirs, i put regular rocks in the netpots, and i max out around 550ppm. even at such a low ppm, some strains develop mild brown tips on some fan leaves. however, the product has always been top shelf, i got some photos on my instagram LPC84. i wish i could get rid of the brown tips, they occur usually second to fourth week of flower. i've tried everything, and when i make the solution weaker my yield suffers and i still get the mild tip burn. i'm not sure if i need a bigger reservoir or a different nutrient regime, but for now i stick with what is making me tons of money haha. the dispensaries never complain, the brown tip issue is more of a personal thing i want to fix. my environment is not the issue, they occur when it's 70 degrees or 85.

    • @GeofryMasters
      @GeofryMasters 6 лет назад +1

      Chris Topher I get the same results with rockwool but no burn or deficiencies at all. I do drain to waste so no worry about res temps or recirculating pythium. Takedown is a breeze and all i use is maxigro ph to 5.5 and keep ppms around 900-1000 and im golden! Check elzabob420 on ig. I pulled 9 lbs off 2500 watts of cmh lights! Rockwool ftw baby!

    • @chris_topher1984
      @chris_topher1984 6 лет назад +1

      nice setup dude, i checked it out. you definitely make more money than me haha but you work a lot more too. my flower room is only 12 monster plants, i have 9 strains i keep bonsai mothers of, and i have a veg room to keep things perpetual where clones veg for one month before flower. i don't have to cut many clones or keep many plants vegging to keep my business running, and i don't have to buy anything, i've used the same rocks in the netpots for years and just wash them. when i decided on a grow setup, i was trying to minimize having to buy stuff like rockwool or hydroton and i wanted to have the lowest plant count possible. i can get 5 to 6lb (with five 1000w HPS lights) every 8 weeks with very little effort, but my light bill is also $500 to $700. my way is not the most efficient, but it's very cheap and not much work involved.

    • @GeofryMasters
      @GeofryMasters 6 лет назад

      Chris Topher hey man as long as your profiting and enjoying life thats all that matters. I have a bit more overhead as far as medium goes but my energy savings are so crazy that it negates all that. I higly suggest u swap those thousands for some 630 cmh fixtures. U will yield probaly 20-30 percent more and save more money on electricity. Efficiency is key in this ever growing and consuming world. Thousands are very enviromentaly unfriendly imo
