Sweet vid and looks like a fun session! Couple of tips from an old bodyboarder that I hope will help with your sponging: take off closer to the peak at a steeper angle and bottom turn/stall into the barrel. This vid shows a few passed up opportunities for tube time because you're on the shoulder of the wave instead of in the barreling section. Tube riding is all about stalling to stay under the lip when it's tubing and hitting the gas to make it out. Try taking a higher line when in the barrel to avoid getting hit by the foam ball behind the lip. Punch out the back of the wave if you see it's going to close out to save your energy and a beating.

I see you got introduced to the step at shark island Willy, I used to have a poster of Dave Ballard drop kneeing a 10 foot monster with a triple step in it at shark island, im going back 20 years ago and im sure he got smashed but still one of the best drop knee pics ive ever seen.
