I actually skipped buying the X-T100 since I felt that it's a good entry level camera with a few drawbacks, especially in the video side. A more in-depth review would be helpful in making my final decision. 🙂 Thanks Maarten!
Thank you, always nice to read kind words from an appreciative viewer. Yes, the full review is in progress, but I've had a bad cold that left me unable to go out and shoot, or record either on-camera or voice overs.
Hi Maarten! I'm a big fan! You're one of the only persons I can think of who might be able to answer these questions (particularly because you've got hands on experience with these camera while connected to an external video recorder via HDMI): A) Is there a way to get "clean" HD video out of the X-T100 via HDMI without recording footage to the internal SD card? I bought the X-T100 as a B-camera for live streaming video on an overhead camera rig (hence I need the articulating screen to enable me to adjust settings on a camera mounted above my head!), but I can't seem to be able to get "clean" HD footage out of the camera unless I'm simultaneously recording to the SD Card. The problem with this is that after 30 minutes the recording stops and the camera exits "movie mode" and returns to the default "photo mode" which mirrors the screen and all of its display info. Unfortunately it seems that the only way I can get more than 30 minutes of continuous video out of the camera is setting the "movie mode" to 4K 15fps and outputting the footage via HDMI. But as you know, 15 frames per second is essentially unusable! B) If I can't get "clean" HD out of the X-T100, can I make this happen with the X-T200? I see that the X-T200 has a dedicated "Movie" Drive Mode, which I'm hoping would allow me to shoot in "stand by" mode, like I do with my X-T20 and X-T3. I'd really appreciate any info you can share on this subject! At the moment I'm thinking of returning the X-T100 and getting an X-T200 instead. Thank you!
I no longer have these cameras and I don't really remember those details. You sound as if you are well-versed in the art, so if you've turned of the HDMI Output Info Display, I have no further suggestions. I've forwarded your question to my Fujifilm contact and will update if I receive a reply.
I have a reply from my Fujifilm contact: "Your findings are correct with the X-T100 as it doesn't have a dedicated Movie mode, the clean output only appears when you tell the camera to record. Setting it to Full HD will have the faster frame rate but that is still not the solution you want. The X-T200 does have a dedicated Movie mode and the output via HDMI is clean. I have tested this again this morning using my capture card and it works perfectly. X-T200 does offer up to 30fps in 4K. " Hope this helps.
Wow! Amazing! Thank you for the quick response Maarten! I also really appreciate you reaching out to your Fuji contact for confirmation. And lastly, I’m sincerely grateful that you did all those things despite me garbling your name! As someone with a name that is also often garbled, I’m usually on top of details like that, but I composed my original question in the middle of the night after fiddling with the darn X-T100 all day. Should have known better. Anyway, thank you again!

Hi, Thanks for the great review. I am from India and in our country its almost difference of 270 USD between XT100 and XT200, is thsi difference worth investing or the same can be invested in lens ? Love all your videos.
Thanks a lot for this detailed video. Not being a videographer and shooting stills, I will stick to the X-T100 as the image outputs apparently are the same ...
Can you please tell me which one you suggest for Street photography and portrait... Sony a6000 or Fujifilm XT-100 ...also is viltrox 85mm will be good lens for what I need
I'd prefer the slightly more flexible A6000. However, consider the X-E3 (if you can find one), which I think is the ideal street camera ruclips.net/video/cv0JUtt6g5E/видео.html. 85mm is a terrible lens for anything except closeup portraits. For street consider 23-35mm as your ideal focal length when using an APS-C sized sensor.
This was extremely useful, thank you. I am considering going from the 100 to the 200. Although the 200 is obviously more video oriented, which is not my main interest, there are handling benefits for me - bigger grip, better touch screen options, swivel screen for example, but I do recognise that the key to great photographs is to be found behind the camera not on it!
Hello Maarten thanks for your valuable contributions. I bought an XT100, I have absolutely no interest in video and for my puposes am very happy with the image quality. The XT100 can now be had quite cheaply too 😁 P.S. my Mom grew up in a town called Heilbron 😊
Thank you for the video! I am using the x-t100, and thinking to buy x-t200. For photos x-t100 is okay, but is t200 much better for 1080 p videos? With x-t100 I had problems with stabilization (it is usable only with steadycam while any action), randomly changing focus and exposure, and lack of HDR. Will x-t200 solve this problems?
If you are serious about video, step up to the X-T30, X-H1 or X-T3. Stabilization (depending on how steady you are) will require a gimbal for real improvement. Fujifilm models don't have an HDR setting. As for changing focus and exposure, try using manual mode, which won't change until you adjust the setting. Thanks for your kind words.
When in the Q menu on the XT200, just select what you want with either the joystick or touch screen, then use the right small command dial to change the values. There's no need to go into sub-menus.
Hello Maarten, I have been using xt100 for more than a year and I have only used it for taking photographs with 99% auto mode. But now I have decided to level up and go with more technical and learn to shoot manual. Could you please help me to choose from xt200 or the xt30. Thank you , I appreciate your works.
Thanks for the video I have got the A7 do you consider the XT200 about the same is it worth going for the 200 ..? I enjoyed the video I watch yours. Thanks v much Michael.
Thanks for the detailed comparison. I have a choice between spending $650 on an X-T200 new or $350 for a used X-T100, either for a personal camera for travel. I won't be shooting much video. Which choice would you take?
Hello Maarten, Thank you for the detailed review. Is it worth buying Xt200 just for those advanced filters ? I only use it for photos, I don't need it for videos.
Hello Maarten, this new Fuijifilm X-T200 sounds like a great value / balanced camera. Now the question which on the surface is simple, yet is perhaps more complex than assumed: Of the cameras you have have tested in this price range, be it the T200, Canon M50, Nikon Z50, or Sony 6100 which would you want in your bag if you only shot stills?
I'd also consider the X-T20 or X-T30, both of which I prefer over the X-T200. Otherwise, considering focus and some other features, I'd take the A6100.
Very informative and detailed review:) Just an quick question Which is better for video? Especially inside home studio setting? I have canon m50 or Fuji xt200 in my mind But you can can give me suggestions and other options Thanks in advance :)
Awesome video...In india XT100 is almost half the price of XT200.which one should i select.mainly for landscape and street photography not much for video.waiting for u r replay
Dear Maarten, in this video you mentioned in the beginning that the kitlens has been upgraded. Can jou tell me the difference and If it's any better. Thanks, Johan.
Thanks for the review.. I am interested in photography. I am doing this photography via my mobile phone.! Now I want to switch to Mirror less.. which one will be best for me as a new photographer!?? Thanks for this review once again..!! Love from India 🤗❤️❤️
If Fujifilm interests you, I'd recommend the X-T30, or X-T4. They are both excellent cameras, providing all the required capabilities for all types of photography and video - the X-T4 is a substantially better video camera than the X-T30. However, there is still lots of value in the older models in these series - the X-T20, the X-T2 and X-T3.
Thanks Marteen!! Actually as a new photographer, I was thinking to buy this XT 100 for the better understanding of this mirror less cameras. Then after some time I will switch to XT30. Will it be good??
Which one shall I buy considering 400 US$ price difference in India? I don't need 4K and will be shooting mostly in 1080p. Is there any significant improvements in AF tracking in 1080p? Help me decide which one to buy. I can spend more on lens and accessories if I go for XT100.
I'm not the target audience, but must say I still prefer the body design of this to the X-T10/20/30. Just looks much prettier in it's full frontal nudity, somewhat more sleek and balanced. I wish they'd copy this design over to the X-T40, but keep the dials, material etc. as is, then I wouldn't have to lust after a X-T4 anymore. :)
@@MaartenHeilbron Not sure if that was sarcastic. I really like the look of the camera, I just wish it had the vintage dials. I also hope this product line survives in Fuji's catalogue, I'd totally recommend it to PASM-dial-lovers. :)
Thank you for the comparison! Please tell me, will the x-t200 be suitable for commercial shooting? I choose between x-t200 and x-t30. I will shoot people in nature (portrait, walk). I like the T200 better, but there are doubts.
I'm not sure what you mean by commercial shooting. In general, I think that your clients expectations might not be met by either of these models. Whether you can make them work to deliver to your client's needs is up to your skills - these cameras have so much in common that you could choose either.
Hello , great. Video , Does the x-t200 has hebrew languege? And does this camera has fuji colors everyone is talking about? I am looking for my first mirrorless camera and thinking of x-t200
The model that was provided to me does include Hebrew as a language option. Yes, it has the same Fujifilm film simulations as other Fujifilm cameras, although some cameras have one or two more options.
Sir I have X-T 200 ....and I make short movies that means I have to record the sound live and for that purpose which external mike you recommend me to buy ?
@@MaartenHeilbron only one....which we attached to to the top of the camer.....directional ..mike for recording human voices \ conversation \ dialogues ...
Sounds like you have a cold? Be good to yourself: Hot showers, C vitamins, and, if you like it, a hot toddy! Btw, quite interesting that so much is so different in the menus. Looks like Fuji hasn’t yet quite found the perfect system.
Thanks. Had a week of very bad laryngitis - I couldn't talk to record anything. And yes, those are all my favourite remedies, along with gargling with salt water and salty black liquorice. The X-T100's is the older entry-level menu system - most Fujifilm cameras use the X-T200 menu.
Hey, thank you for this detailed video. I practice street photography from my mobile phone camera. I want to buy my first camera, which one will you recommend me? No matter what people say about the XT-100, frankly I don't mind at all! I'm mostly an amateur photographer anyways, that must be why. Still about to get it, even in 2020! I can't wait when when it arrives! I bought it for only just over 500 bucks! It's a steal, with some freebies such as an extra battery, an sd card, and a mini tripod. I'd rather get Fujifilm's wide variety of great lenses, before upgrading to the Flagship models. Still a great deal! Also, I don't know why but I prefer that screen over the XT-200 🤔😂
sir, would it be possible to know if the tracking focus was really improved in xt200? I want to photograph my pets running, xt100 was unable, can xt200 do it? or will XE3 be a better option? thank you mr.

It's possible that you've tried it and don't like but, however, if you have not actually experienced it - try it. You might find (as I did) that it's a more usable and flexible tool for navigation the menus and selecting a focus point.
I'm confused between the xt100 and xt200. I am a photographer, not much of a videographer. So i was thinking of buying the xt100 and using the extra money for a lens or something. But the xt200 is better in so many ways not just for 4k videos. Would I be disappointed if I buy the xt100 or should I use the extra money for the xt200. And once again my main priority if photography. The camera has to be a little durable. I'm a street photographer
@@velurugnaneshwarchowdary4778 Then please take some time to learn. And note that many photographers work hard to create the right amount of blur in an image to capture energy and movement.
Autofocus works fine for me - and it has no effect on brightness. If you want exposure to remain constant, make sure that aperture, shutter and ISO are all manually set. When the distance between the camera and yourself is not changing while you are vlogging, I highly recommend setting the focus manually.

Thanks for the kind words. Why not go manual with the X-T100? But if you must upgrade, go with the X-T30 (or X-S10).
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you.
Thanks for the video I have got the A7 do you consider the XT200 about the same is it worth going for the 200 ..? I enjoyed the video I watch yours. Thanks v much Michael.
Depending on what you feel the deficiencies of the A7 might be for your practice, it's probably not an upgrade I'd make.
Maarten Heilbron thank you for the advice 👍😊
Thanks for the detailed comparison.
I have a choice between spending $650 on an X-T200 new or $350 for a used X-T100, either for a personal camera for travel. I won't be shooting much video. Which choice would you take?
I would take the X-T100. The additional cost will not bring you much additional value.
@@MaartenHeilbron Has the X-T200 already been discontinued?
@@jobney Both models are still listed as available on Fujifilm Canada's web site this morning.
Hello Maarten,
Thank you for the detailed review.
Is it worth buying Xt200 just for those advanced filters ?
I only use it for photos, I don't need it for videos.
Always my pleasure, thanks for the kind words. I would not buy it for the advanced filters. They're easy to replicate in software on a computer.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you :)
Most helpful video i found. Thank u so much sir! 😊
Always nice to read that my videos are appreciated, thanks!!
Dear Maarten Heilbron, thanks a lot! I would like to know... is the silent shutter of the xt200 really silent?
To get full silence, select the electronic shutter and then turn the shutter sound (a simulation) to Off.
This was the best comparison, I have seen so far. 👌
Thank you for your kind words, appreciated.
Very informative and detailed review:)
Just an quick question
Which is better for video? Especially inside home studio setting?
I have canon m50 or Fuji xt200 in my mind
But you can can give me suggestions and other options
Thanks in advance :)
Thanks for the kind words.
Either would be fine. The selection of lenses available for Fujifilm x-mount is larger and more varied.
Awesome video...In india XT100 is almost half the price of XT200.which one should i select.mainly for landscape and street photography not much for video.waiting for u r replay
If you feel the X-T100 meets your needs, invest the extra money in a better lens.
Nice educational video Sir👍. Can I take pictures in high speed sync (hss) with godox xt1 fuji trigger in xt100 camera?
I don't know.
Dear Maarten, in this video you mentioned in the beginning that the kitlens has been upgraded. Can jou tell me the difference and
If it's any better. Thanks, Johan.
It's a smaller, lighter and although it has a power zoom lever, it's not better than the previous kit - the 18-55.
@@creationbys I'd save the step and go with the X-T30.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
Thank you for great video! And one question: how to enable zoom mode on t-200? On t-100 I press little back functional weel to do that.
This depends on the lens. On the 15-45 kit, there's a small lever. On other lenses, you turn the zoom ring.
Which one shall I buy considering 400 US$ price difference in India? I don't need 4K and will be shooting mostly in 1080p. Is there any significant improvements in AF tracking in 1080p? Help me decide which one to buy. I can spend more on lens and accessories if I go for XT100.
Then get the X-T100.
Always nice to have thoughtful comments from someone who's already decided not to purchase.
@@MaartenHeilbron Not sure if that was sarcastic. I really like the look of the camera, I just wish it had the vintage dials. I also hope this product line survives in Fuji's catalogue, I'd totally recommend it to PASM-dial-lovers. :)
@@chrissoclone The best way to make sure a camera line survives is to buy one.
Awesome review I am planning to buy my first mirrorless camera confused with Canon m50 and xt200..
Either is a suitable choice. I might prefer the Fujifilm as it has a larger selection of native lenses.

Reghu, Have you bought? How's the experience?
Thank you for the comparison! Please tell me, will the x-t200 be suitable for commercial shooting? I choose between x-t200 and x-t30. I will shoot people in nature (portrait, walk). I like the T200 better, but there are doubts.
I'm not sure what you mean by commercial shooting. In general, I think that your clients expectations might not be met by either of these models. Whether you can make them work to deliver to your client's needs is up to your skills - these cameras have so much in common that you could choose either.
Hello , great. Video ,
Does the x-t200 has hebrew languege? And does this camera has fuji colors everyone is talking about? I am looking for my first mirrorless camera and thinking of x-t200
The model that was provided to me does include Hebrew as a language option. Yes, it has the same Fujifilm film simulations as other Fujifilm cameras, although some cameras have one or two more options.
Hi from Dublin Maarten, could you tell me if there's 30 fps 4k available in the PAL region, or is it only in NTSC?
As far as I know, all frame rates are available in all geographic areas. If you download the UK version of the manual, then you'll be able to confirm.

Thanks. Had a week of very bad laryngitis - I couldn't talk to record anything. And yes, those are all my favourite remedies, along with gargling with salt water and salty black liquorice.
The X-T100's is the older entry-level menu system - most Fujifilm cameras use the X-T200 menu.

About the same, but X-T200 is better.

It’s a personal decision - and depends on your style and practice.

Not keen on the joystick for the XT200 and lack of shortcut keys.
It's possible that you've tried it and don't like but, however, if you have not actually experienced it - try it. You might find (as I did) that it's a more usable and flexible tool for navigation the menus and selecting a focus point.
