Great video. I used to live in Plymouth, moved to Forest Gate, right by where you were at the end of your visit in Newham, and now in Startford. The dancing (?) guy at the start of the video, I see him pretty much every time I leave the house. I work for a drug and alcohol charity supporting young people. Great to hear the encouragement and advice from the locals about staying away from gangs. I'll show this to some of kids I work with. Thanks!!

So weird how some people take pride in the fact that their neighborhood is dangerous and grimy. Once you start noticing it you hear it from a lot of them.
Those responsible for destruction are muslims of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Middle East, Bangladesh. I don't think Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian Indians or non muslim Persians, Jews are causing any sort of problems. Moreover except for your communist, globalist prime minister who is an exception I don't think in general hindu and Christian migrants from India are causing any poverty, violence in England.
Ben, you should definitely go to GUYANA. Would love to see your experience there. Im from there and its hardly even covered on youtube, in fact most people don't even know it exists. People are amazing and food and culture is great. Definitely check it out man!
It's whatever people are used to. I've found London at rush hour for instance the eighth circle of hell. But the locals just stumble along like zombies 😵
Ben drops another banging video! I used to live in Bethnal Green… loved it. How many times are we going to hear Ben say “brother” and “As-salamu Alaikum” to everyone he meets!
@@mattlondon2242 no, I’m a shift worker so saw it at all times of the day / night and weekends. Also had a few colleagues that lived there that said it was a dive. I know the carpenter estate as my work place was close by. I’d walk around the area and it was a dive. Even the Westfield shopping centre there is full of dicks. There’s fights kicking off even now and then, and also a stabbing in there a while back. Anything else you’d like to know ?
Go by National Express coach to London next time. Brilliant service, comfortable seats, refreshment break, heavy luggage in storage.. There is one stop en route apart from the service station break, at Heathrow. Arrive at Victoria Coach Station 5.5 hrs later. And it's often under £30 for a single journey from Plymouth!
Thank you for your stellar work Ben, it's not as bad as I thought....... Lots of good people with common sense. Reminded me that best to Mind your Own Business.
Those guys are absolute legends indeed! I love how you manage to make friends with locals to show you around. Great to watch your channel again (dunno why it was absent from my feed for a couple months) Cheers Ben!
Howdy mate✌🏻 I’ve always thought your adventures were top notch. Now that I’m on a bit of a walkabout I’m positively flabbergasted at how you do it. I’ve been knackered for a week now and barely done anything as courageous and amazing as you do. So here’s never ending kudos to you mate. You are truly a legend👍🏻✌🏻🤙🏻

Check the statistics of United Nations Development Programme, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Morgan and Stanley - they have clearly mentioned that currently only 14% of the population of India live below poverty line and in last decade 450 million Indians have been lifted out of absolute poverty. Moreover one more strong evidence is the rapidly growing middle class and the booming consumer market. India Today has the fastest growing consumer market in the world the reason why numerous global brands have and are opening their business in India. Even in the infrastructure case, there is a massive upgradation going on currently. You see the latest global news reports. Boeing, Airbus have received their largest purchase orders which are also the largest in the entire history of aviation from Indian airline carrier groups like Air India, Indigo. The reason behind this, more and more number of Indians are travelling by air with more and more airports being built throughout India by the government because the domestic part of India's air transport is far larger than the international part. Thirdly, India's recent upgradation of its railways with its new fleet of semi high speed trains like Vande Bharat and building of tunnels through mountains in Northwestern and Northeast Indian Himalayas and it's rapidly growing highway, expressway networks and bridges- the Atal sea link recently constructed connecting Mumbai to Pune over the Arabian Sea. Lastly India recently have became successful in constructing an underwater metro railway.

I've been to Tower Hamlets (Bow, Bromley, Shoreditch), Hackney, Newham (really just the Westfield Stratford Center) alone both day and night. Only in certain parts of Bow / Bromley-by-Bow did I ever feel a bit uneasy. And I'm from Oregon (U.S.). All these places look quite charming. Nothing like the rough areas in Philly (Kensington) or St. Louis (Northside). The train prices are comparable to NYC to DC, a similar distance of about 200 miles.
Ima keep it a b my unc lives in Tower Hamlets , I live north of Stockholm in Sweden, it's not really that bad, my dad lives in the "projects" here and honestly media really loves to exaggerate how it be
Ben just pulled his pants down, bent himself over the ticket desk and passed a toilet brush to the closest person to him and said “Do your best brother”
So, when I was last in London, my 10 year old daughter and I ended up wandering around Tower Hamlets (Whitechapel area) looking for an address that we couldn’t find as my phone died. It was 6-8 pm on a Saturday evening. I might add that we’re Americans so it was all new to us. Yeah, it seemed dodgy but frankly not that bad. We ran into some very nice people who were quite helpful. Never felt endangered. I’m sure it’s rough late at night, but compared with most US cities, it wasn’t that bad. It was, however, heavily Bangladeshi which was somewhat of a culture shock to be sure. Have to totally agree with what your mates were saying there. Great video, btw!
A culture shock? Way to tick every ignorant American stereotype. Stay there next time you think of travelling, we don’t need you suffering from any more “culture shock” as you were very briefly passing through 💩
Lived in London for 10 years. Left in January and full time traveling now (Vlogging my adventures!) London definitely has it's charm, but I'm not in any rush to go back :)
I've been living in Stratford for 8 years. I remember the time that a guy was stabbed 20times in the stratford centre, the guy throat slaughtered at leyton station, and a guy shot to dead in leytonstone. Then I joined the Met for few months and I was assigned to Stratford and forest gate; every day I was receiving at least 6-7 emails of people disappeared in the area, then there were those about domestic abuse and then the warning for a guy walking around the Westfield area with a machete. In the met, it is considered one of the busiest borough, if not the busiest. Still, in 8 years, nothing ever happened to me, and I still feel at home there
I lived in Shadwell (Tower Hamlets) 10 years ago. It was fine! I had no problems, but it was really run down and not much to do. Whitechapel and Brick Lane are much better areas if you want to enjoy yourself.
Much like yourself I've travelled the world since I was 18 years old. When I travel to countries off the beaten path with a bit of a reputation and people tell me to be careful. I always reply. "I'll be alright. I grew up in Tower Hamlets"
ive lived in north london for a few months from a commuter town in kent and honestly had no problems so far, people round here are nice and will actually stop to talk you, never had that before, never felt scared or threatened at late night/ early mornings, no denying there is problems in london but i definitely think its blown out of proportion even just speaking to people that live here or at work who live all around london
Yeah London's great it's a safe and warm city generally. I've lived in East, north and south London and it's all similar. If you go into any high-density deprived urban neighbourhoods late at night you might feel unsafe but that's quite a specific thing - and London's certainly no worse than the equivalents anywhere else in the world.
@@_Shadbolt_ Na don't gaslight yourself to think London is great. Just an overrated city with high cost of living prices and just the atmosphere is a shithole. Still obviously depends who you talk to maybe go to zone 5 and you get a better experience but go to zone 1-3 and it's generally unsafe cos of phone snatchers and knife crime.
@ Compare that to Manchester and NYC. Better place in NYC but not better than Manchester in terms of parts that are cheaper and better than London or even go to Royal Leamington Spa a budget, but nicer version of London. If you love London that is great for you but for other locals that spent 20 years and they can agree that crime, homeless, loneliness, weather and unfriendliness got them to leave London and go to better parts in England.
I lived in the nice part of Newham (Olympic Park) for 7 years. There's more crime there (phone snatchers) than on the streets you visited. The police have been so underfunded for so many years and theft, criminal damage and so on are not considered "serious" crimes so they rely on CCTV or close and shut the cases immediately. London has been greatly gentrified in the last 15 years and the wealth gap between rich and poor/middle class is massive. It's a cultural, social and financial problem.
120 quid?? For a 3 hour journey?? I paid 95€ for a round trip to Vienna from Udine (northern Italy), and that's a 6 hour journey both ways! 120£ is insane, man
In Sydney Australia pensioners can travel all day for $2.50 Australia which is about $1.70 USA dollars , for example a 300 kilometre trip and return 600 kilometres costs only $2.50 Australia which is a bargain compared to the train prices in the U.K
Quality video Ben - you can get accommodation a bit better than that for cheaper in the London area. Classic UK train prices - Leeds to Exeter was like £170 the other day one way
I'm from hoxton literally like 5 minutes from brick lane now it's considered posh but growing up it was considered a dangerous area but I had the best childhood growing up there you knew where to go and where not to go I still go up brick lane alot with my family and go to that same food market as you and also the amazing salt beef Bagel 🤤
Mate, I work in east London every day as a delivery driver. From Pompey, it's no different to me, just on a much bigger scale. As they said, if you are just doing you're stuff you'll be left alone. Londerners in general remind me of Pompey, we even sound similar. Always get asked where I'm from in London
It's important to be aware that characterizations of areas as "dodgy" or unsafe can sometimes reflect problematic biases and stereotypes based on the racial or ethnic demographics of a community, rather than objective assessments of crime or other issues. When discussing these topics, it's best to avoid making broad generalizations about people based on their race, ethnicity, or background. Instead, I would suggest focusing the conversation on the specific factors and conditions that may contribute to perceptions of an area, while recognizing that these perceptions can be influenced by implicit biases and a lack of nuanced understanding.
I wish I can pin your comment so everyone can see this I 100% agree with you people say a area is dangerous based of the ethnic demographics shaming the ethnic demographic instead of discussing the problems and trying to fix it 😢❤
The only thing that scared me was the train price mate. You did not actually explore the rough areas, this was too safe compared to actual dangerous areas in London
I ain't even gonna lie, I was born in Mile End in Tower Hamlets East London, and lived there for the first 35 years of my life and I used to take the 25 bus up to Stratford almost every Saturday to meet my friends and go shopping 🛍️ and cinema. I would go past that Tower block you were at all the time on the bus and I kept thinking it must be earmarked for demolition cause it always looked like it was empty when you looked at it 😂. I still like visiting London and exploring but I must admit I tend not to go into the London boroughs anymore and normally stay central. The only way you can truly understand what it's like to live in east London is to actually live there. It's alright and largely agree if you mind your own business you're normally alright. It is true there are good and bad areas all over the country tbf.
You totally should have asked that platform attendant to join you on a return trip home. Sharing mutual cross cultural experiences is amazing and i bet my bottom dollar she'd have said yes immediately. Great energy!
I’ve been living in Tower Hamlets for 4 years after having moved from Johannesburg. I’ve never felt unsafe I just mind my business and no one has ever bothered me and I walk most places as a woman on my own. People born and raised in the UK don’t understand what unsafe actually feels like. I adore East London and TH it’s got soul 🫶🏻
As a Londoner, I had hoped to learn something new, but no, replace "most dangerous" with "mildly different to Plymouth" and that would've been more accurate. I'm new to your channel so if you haven't done so, do the other 30 boroughs of London and show how the differences across the city. You won't be able to do them all in a day. It's a great city to be in - that's why so many from other parts of England end up coming here ;)
I taught at an all-boys secondary school in Tower Hamlets (Stepney) and it wasn't as rough as people might think. Islam and Bangladeshi culture kept a lid on things. I know it is fashionable to bash Islam for eroding British values but it agrees with many of them in terms of respect for adults etc. The parents would not spare the rod, as it were.
Mind Tottenham and Newham is 💯 legit advice to those who don’t know. Bro loved the railway hate at the start, I subscribed within 20 seconds 🤣 I totally agree, and your comparison to central Asia is so true. I did the Trans-Mongolian railway a few years back. Trains for weeks. Not one late. Not ONE! Got back to London Heathrow, first Piccadilly line train. Cancelled. Followed by severe delays and the price equivalent of several hundred miles across Russian tundra to go less than 10 miles!
@23:00 It basically is a coffin. If fire breaks out in this wooden resting area, then rest in peace (R.I.P) forever. It is a real shame to ask 25 GBP/n for this junkhostel.
Tower Hamlet and Stratford are far away from being Ghettos area, and they are quite safe tbh (i leave in Stratford for the last 5 years). You need to go to Tottenham if you want to feel unsafe!!
btw the way that dude that got mugged at knife point, that happened to me, in 2000, but like, they tried to take my tobacco, i asked for the tobacco back, said this was traumatic, as i thought you gonna stab me, and i'll need a smoke after and he gave me my tobacco back
Ben, thank you for allowing me to explore Tower Hamlets and Newham from the comfort of my sitting room. Train fares here are bonkers, I agree. A lady should never ask a gentleman his age, but would you qualify for a railcard? A return ticket from Plymouth to Paddington would then cost just over £80. Still too much, but better than £120. Safe travels!
To travel from plymouth you can get there for about £15-£20. Get the falcon bus up to bristol, and then get a national express to victoria. Wayy cheaper than the train
The problem is they live like they did in Bangladesh. Over crowded homes, no intergration and slum areas and spend their money on the car they drive. Its people that make an area. Take some pride in your surrounding and people will have a better opinion of the area. None of these areas a bad places. I live in Stratford, its instagram gansters and the odd shitty street/block.
I'm in the states and this is like watching a cosplay gathering. All these road kids thing their British neighbors are so threatening. You should come visit the real gang infested areas in the states, you'd likely be walking with your tail in-between your legs. Crime is so high here they hardly report what actually happens to make it like everything is ok. Come to our ends and you'll start sounding posh.
I went to the building crafts college which is the circular roof shaped building in shot in the carpenters estate which produces the best craftsmanship of young people, carpentry and stone masonry which is a positive of Newham! Good to see it's still there and survived the Olympics where a lot of business we just moved on!
Lived in that area for 6 years... I'm Polish and never had any uncomfortable situation. I lived at Poplar many beautiful places and if you live your life nobody will harm you, yes you could see crimes time to time but only between gangs. Left Poplar and London in 2014. Place like no other
@@elsiemarina2572 Yeap if you are wick and you can't defend yourself then they will harm you, "mugg or worse" like everywhere around the world. I lived in much more dangerous places than London
£120 to go to London , If I was offered that to go there I still wouldn't, horrendous place. It's like a different country in some areas down there . Scary what it's become .
Much nicer nowadays. Horrific decades ago. Have you ever thought about going to a nice area? Yes it does seem like a different country in some areas . Not a fan of mass immigration but still absolutely love the nice parts.
@@glen6566 I don't know why people get upset about places they don't live in or really know. The irony is they usually don't even like where they come from and see it as dead and boring.
I grew up in and have moved back to (it's cheap for London and I can afford to rent a decent sized flat by myself) one of the roughest areas of London. It's run down and grimy, you see a lot of stuff happening with drugs and the disruption after stabbings but the reality is if you're a civilian and mind your business none of these places are dangerous to you personally.
Recently as a tourist I got a bus from Cardiff to the London Heathrow Airport , a very good quality bus , the fare was fairly cheap , I think the buses in the U.K are far cheaper than the trains .
A lot of people here are badmouthing the bengalis/Muslims in the video but each one was so helpful and hospitable. The majority of them are like this, exceptions do not make the rule
are we going to pretend like the "east end" which includes tower hamlets hasnt always been the grimiest, poorest, working class area of London even before immigration or anything else. it has always been like this.
There are allot of comments saying where are the “English people”in this video but to me most of the people in this video seem and sound very English to me especially with the accents and polite nature especially with the main guy who was showing him around to me he is very much an English stereotypical kind of gentleman in my opinion . I am Australian though so I might be a bit unaware of what it’s really like and not be able to tell different English accents etc and also what happens when there isn’t a camera . But yeah this is what I expected. Good video by the way :)
Cheaper to go from Copenhagen to London 30£ by airplane… one way. Lived in London 87-89 Richmond-Bethnal green and White City estate. So expensive rent. Worked at Rock garden -Covent garden- all wages went to a basement bedset in Bethnal green. Under a off-licence that got burgled once a month. Ended up squatting in White City estate to save money. I was young and it was exciting. Been back a few times since. 2 years ago my 2 young boys and I witnessed a Stabbing at Waterloo Station. We went to Brick lane and we did feel very unsafe because it was outside openinghours. Very dodgy people in the streets. Not sure I dare to go back. So sad. I love London. Thanks for the video.
The so called natives that used to live there moved Basildon, Tilbury and Jaywick. Those natives have turned those places into chav central and the ones always moaning about foreigners.

Had a couple of guys walk right up to my kids pushchair giving me a stare I’ll never forget. Actually India Today is one of the largest economic powers and currently the fastest growing economy in the world under the current leadership.
Today India is completely different from what it was in 1980 when the country was closed to the global investors and economy.

Stay there next time you think of travelling, we don’t need you suffering from any more “culture shock” as you were very briefly passing through 💩
In the 80s they actually started to put up Bangladeshi street signs but its becoming so white and hipster there now its no longer needed!

Still, in 8 years, nothing ever happened to me, and I still feel at home there
Great vid nice that you had that great guy seeing you around

north london is different. undesirables are physically incapable of walking up the highgate & hampstead hills. nicest part of the city as a result
@@MoAdan28 I love London - tell me where you think is better? I've lived in a lot of places so might be able to compare.

I taught at an all-boys secondary school in Tower Hamlets (Stepney) and it wasn't as rough as people might think. Islam and Bangladeshi culture kept a lid on things. The so called natives that used to live there moved Basildon, Tilbury and Jaywick. Those natives have turned those places into chav central and the ones always moaning about foreigners.

Naaa Bangladesh
Apparently its near Rwanda
Those responsible for destruction are muslims of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Middle East, Bangladesh.
I don't think Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian Indians or non muslim Persians, Jews are causing any sort of problems.
They are highly educated on average and have highest household incomes and most university degrees. They don't deal with drugs, seek human welfare or asylum or rape.
Moreover except for your communist, globalist prime minister who is an exception I don't think in general hindu and Christian migrants from India are causing any poverty, violence in England.
Actually India Today is one of the largest economic powers and currently the fastest growing economy in the world under the current leadership.
Today India is completely different from what it was in 1980 when the country was closed to the global investors and economy.
Please there are many other countries far far worse than India.
You are anti India racist because you fail to understand that majority of those illegals who are bringing down your country are middle East/ African/ Pakistani folks and even if they are from India they are muslims.
Stop involving Buddhists, Christians, Hindus.

I am a realist and I honestly say China is already out of the third world status long back and India is rapidly transitioning into a second world country that is it's in the Goldilocks Phase in terms of economists.
The blame is to be put on muslims and not Asians like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Nepalese, non muslim Indians who are hardworking and law abiding.
Always enjoy watching your travels , cheers from Tasmania

I really like these video. I honestly didn't expect the UK to look like that.
But it's not all of the UK. Still would love to visit someday.

Ben you need to buy a rail card and save a 1/3 on the price you pay I just checked and it’s £57 return with discount
Thanks for the videos
That's bollox though, if they can affors to do it for £57 with a railcard, then they should just do it at that price all the time. Same bollox with tesco and their clubcard shite.
Don’t make excuses for them ripping people off
@@MattyEngland @AI-Records24
Many countries have discounted rail cards the difference here is most countries governments own their rail so it’s charged in a way everyone can afford, Uk sold everything off and this is why we have overpriced rail I’m not trying to say it’s not a good thing yes we get ripped off for shareholders bonuses it’s time to take back our rail and turn it back into British rail and get the bloody prices back to a price to a living standard prices like the other places in the world
Nice bunch of fellas, which just goes to show it's always a very small minority of people who cause the majority of problems anywhere you go.
Absolutely
that 120£ from Plymouth to London is insane. Is there no cheaper way to travel in the UK?
The coach (National Express) is way cheaper, but it's a 5hrs+ journey one way from the SW of England.
Good Lads. Backpacker Ben is a tough one. Great street bonus points to his hood rep stats!
Tower Hamlets where the Palestine flags ripple in the breeze! I walked through the back streets of Brick Lane about 10 years ago and I got some bad stares from the locals ooof.
London. Just don’t bother with it. Absolute 💩 hole, uncomfortable, cramped and expensive.

I moved away from East London 2004 and never went back. I used to take my toddler out in the push chair and had to have one eye over my shoulder at all times. Had a couple of guys walk right up to my kids pushchair giving me a stare I’ll never forget. I stared back at them with so much hatred because they were doing it to my kid, and I’ll be honest I would have defended my kid my last breath. I was one of the toughest guys in the area in my mid twenties, but wouldn’t fancy my chances now. It’s gangs outnumbering individual victims with zero honour and zero respect for community.
Facts I wouldn't raise my kids in that gang environment or ghetto vibe with the most expensive house prices in all history and nobody is really looking out for each other just more interested of rivalling each other just for post code wars and just being purely selfish for each other.
