great video on using ca on larger-than-pen turning. Question: do you use any solvent when you are cleaning after each coat? Water? Alcohol? mineral spirits? just dry cloth/rag?
Dude im having such a hard time with this. You may have helped me a little with the sanding inbetween the first coat . Do you sand between every coat? And how much does it mattet that im just using some super glue i got from home depot?
The Home Depot super glue may work but it’s more viscous than the thin CA glue he used for the first coat so it won’t really penetrate the wood at all and instead will just form a film layer over the top. Also, I think the starbond super glue is a much better value. Just don’t spend your money on the starbond accelerator. A random brand of accelerator works just as well imo and costs like 1/6 as much.
Ive been trying my damnedest to get a finish on my wooden rings i have made. But im having one hell of a time. I sand down to 300 grit too. Does that matter ?
300 should suffice (before and between coats). I do it a bit different than this guy and usually takes a few attempts. The issue I’ve had with the thin CA glue is that it tries to cure on the paper towel as I apply it so I’ve started using just the nitrile glove and a drop or so of the thin stuff at a time. This allows for enough of the glue to be applied that it doesn’t cure super fast. Downsides to this are that you have to keep it spinning for a while so a drop doesn’t form and cure at the bottom. Also, you can’t use accelerator on the thin stuff when you have a heavy layer on the wood. All of that being said, you may want to check out Alum-UV. It’s relatively pricy but once you get some practice, it’s much easier (imo). It’s also more scratch resistant, but once it does start wearing down, it looks a lot uglier than when a CA finish starts wearing down.
HELLO, IF YOU PUT A FINISH OF THIS ON SOMETHING THAT HAS PAINT ON IT, WILL IT SMEAR THE PAINT??? AFTER A WHILE YOU HAD THAT ON AN OBJECT WILL IT TURN INTO A DINGY YELLOW INSTEAD OF ALWAYS BEING CRYSTAL CLEAR???
Before applying it to a painted surface, we recommend doing a spot test to see if the paint will smear. And it can possibly turn yellow over time, especially if exposed to a lot of direct sunlight. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask! Thanks and have a great day!
@@StarbondAdhesivesHey, great video. I'm wondering if this can be used on an ash guitar body with a thick polyurethane finish. The guitar was knocked off its stand and has a thin semi circal crack. No dint, just the finish has a cracked, almost shattered appearance. I could take it to a luthier, but thinking of trying to repair it myself. The finish is a yellow colour, so as you mentioned overtime, aging yellow would be ok. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers. 6:38 6:38
Sorry but I've got to agree with a previous comment, great video but I couldn't stand the music! Can hardly hear what you are saying. This would be so much better without the noise. Your voice is just about background level and the music is foreground. I'm not trying to be rude just being honest IMHO.
love the little vase
Thanks! Have a great day!
Wish you had gone over parting it off. What did you do to make the finish look even after your parted it off the waste wood?
When I apply accelerator, I get the typical cloudy chemical reaction. How did you avoid that?

No music...

Thanks for the feedback! We appreciate it!
That noise collectively referred to as music is obnoxious and detracts from an otherwise good video
Thank you for your feedback, we'll take it into consideration for future videos. Have a wonderful weekend!
