I come from Mali, and we learn this when we are kids. King Musa abolished slavery, because he believed in equal rights.
He was very generous with is wealth, which is probably part of the reasons why the empire died. It's also believed that
he sent many ships with soldiers in them to go travel the world, and some landed in the Americas and mixed with the natives
in there and bring their cultures there.
Amazing. This mean they found America before Christopher Columbus. Like about 150 years before Columbus discover America continent. Wonderful
@@luqmankhanN i mean the Vikings did that centuries before columbus but somehow Columbus gets most of the credit
@@comradekenobi6908
Yup, it's about documentation i think. America continent was added to the world map after Columbus and this seems like a good and valid reason to give him some credit.
Still it should be correct that he did not found America, it was whoever it was either Abu Bukari Keita II or viking or anyone else.
@@comradekenobi6908 Columbus made all the big powers at the time aware of it, then they all tried colonizing it, so it makes sense that you hear more about Columbus discovering it than the Vikings, even if the Vikings found it first

The rising interest rate can surely control inflation, but won't prevent erosion of the eroding purchasing power of the US dollar. I have learnt my lesson this time. The banks can't be making money off my money, while inflation eats into it. Yeah, too bad this isn't one of those occasions. Because Jeff Bezos is definitely richer than Mansa Musa ever was. Even if Mansa Musa had 100 tons of gold, which is rather unlikely, that's only $5.8 billion. Let's be really optimistic and double that on account of his other assets. That's still only $11.6 billion. Jeff Bezos is currently worth $200 billion. At most, Mansa Musa was the richest man of his time, but even that's unlikely because the emperors of China, Persia, and India, and the Ottoman sultans, and the tsars of Russia ruled, and essentially owned, much larger and richer domains than Mansa Musa. The fact of the matter is that Mansa Musa's kingdom was fairly small and mostly desert, while Russia and China are vast countries with far more resources. This video is PC bullshit.

@@raycaruso8026 100 tons of gold was loose change - to Mansa Musa. Which is why Europeans rushed to get a slice of Africa.
@@PLEASANTGIFFT
Bullshit. 100 tons of gold is likely much more than he ever had. If what you said made any sense, Europeans would have found stacks of gold bars, à la Fort Knox, when they colonized Africa. They didn't.
I've read about the Mansa Musa. He was aware of the inflation he caused by giving away so much gold. So on the way back home from Mecca he did something really clever: he borrowed much of the gold back. By taking the gold off the market its value was allowed to settle, and then he repaid the recipients in more reasonable periodic installments.
Also you said that Musa's predecessor went on his trip west without evidence of there being land there. This is not entirely correct. At that point it had been known for quite a while in both Europe and Africa that "something" should be there on the other side of the ocean, even if they didn't know exactly what it was. My opinion is that the Malian voyage could have been succesful if only they would have had better ship building technology. The Europeans (Columbus) only managed to cross the Atlantic (and survive) almost two centuries later (1492) when their technology had sufficiently evolved. So in a way the Malians were ahead of their time, but then they missed the boat.

THIS really should be a movie, after being published as a book. I found out that there was an English man, back in those days, who reportedly visited Timbuktu and wrote that it was the absolute safest place he'd ever been in all of his days of travel. He said he could walk their streets at night and had no fear of anything. The people were said to be very meek and polite. He attributes that to the leader who made sure at least to things were expected of every inhabitant: be fully educated and be conscience of the Supreme leader...it was not him, it was God. The core values of those who accepted him as their ruler were based on the intangibles and at top of that list was their fear (awe) of God.

State exactly what your problem with the statement is.
I'm interpreting this as his teacher was excited to educate her students on undervalued and undertaught history. The fact you're upset that African history is finally being taught to mainstream media rather than European and American history, emphasizes how self-absorbed and narrow mined you are. Based on your replies, I'm inferring that your issue is with black people as a whole. Analysing your quote "black worship", makes it apparent that you are assuming his teachers colour based on her eagerness. Assuming this is the case, why do you think that teachers of any other race cannot promote African history?
There is a difference between "black worship" and addressing and being educated about underrepresented history.
Your grievance makes it evident that you are immensely chauvinistic.

Imagine being so rich that you can destroy a country's economy by just spending money aka inflation.
It's kind of a paradox if I think about it, making people poor by making them rich.
solution is to not give too much... if i suddenly was given 10 million dollars on a briefcase . I could spend only reasonable ammounts i it wouldn't crash any economy
@@Dan_Kanerva Yeah, it would work, if the new rich ones would spent their money only for their real needs, so the wealth can spread slowly in the region and don't flood the market, so every trading becomes almost impossible.
The whole economy is a paradox. We're supposed to grow infinitely on a planet with finite resources. It's unsustainable, the very opposite of the definition of the word "economy". The whole thing is a mysterious contradiction.

I Need A Biography Movie Called, "Musa A Emperor Like No Other"
Many thanks for your stunning narration and detailed account of Mansa Musa, The Richest Man Who Ever Lived. Many Africans who studied on the continent would know of him. I learned the history of Mansa Musa and the Mali Empire in 5th & 6th grade. Pity that African history isn't taught in the UK or mainstream US schools. It is a terrible loss to the millions of people missing out on valuable historical accounts of the human race. Denying them these nuggets of human history is equivalent to self-starvation in the existence of abundance. I hope your feature posts will change that.

Gold was viewed as valuable in the ancient world because (among other reasons) it doesn't corrode. It is also the most maleable and ductile metal, meaning it is very easy to form various implements like jewelry or silverware (goldware i guess) that will last for generations. I have definitely heard of Mansa Musa and the Malian Empire. Timbuktu is a city I've always wanted to travel to and see for myself. I have wondered what eventually happened to Mali's gold, and why so little its immense wealth can be seen in the African Sahel today. Understood that European plundered Africa, but it was mainly on the coast, they didn't reach the inland of Africa until very late in history, practically on the even of de-colonisation. And with all that wealth, Mali could surely have paid for technology and weapons to keep the Europeans away, who weren't very advanced when contact was first made around the 15th century.
After a month of posting this, have you found answers?

Kind of Ironic how the Wealthiest man in History was a Philanthropist, While we have Jeff over here literally Hoarding more wealth than he can possibly use in his lifetime
It goes to show how much perception of respect and consideration has changed in the modern times. A multi-billionaire can donate to any "charity" of their choosing (that doesn't even aid the needy and primarily feeds into offshore accounts), but this man actually cared about his subjects and spent to make their lives better. A truly blessed and respectable ruler.
i don’t think you really understand how jeff has that much money so ill explain it simply. He owns a large percentage of Amazon stock which gives him most of his “wealth”. He still probably has hundreds of millions in money which is not as crazy but still a lot. My point is he can’t just sell all his stocks and donate it, he would kill Amazon. Imagine buying a plot of land for $10 and spending your life making a house and refining it until its worth $170 billion. It will be a noble gesture to sell it and donate it but we have no right to blame him for not losing his life’s work.
Economy has changed over the centuries, now I'm no super accountant or sharer for Jeff bezos but I'm pretty sure that all that money doesn't go directly to him
@@Nico-dt5hu Thats not true at all because banks let the ultra rich use the amount they have in stocks as a part of their bank account. So, yes, he could spend billions and not lose any stock.
