Today's behind the scenes tidbit... Dean's reaction to the eggnog.. is Jensen's actual reaction. Jared spiked it (rum as I recall) to just barely opaque for the camera.. and they left that take in.

This puts a new light on the episode “Something Wicked this way comes” when Sam said he wished he could have that kind of innocence, meaning didn’t know about monsters and you realize it was Dean who told him the truth, John might’ve never told him or plan to tell him but it was Dean who did that and when you look back at that episode you can see some guilt in him and in the flashback you can tell kid Dean is scared like he’s doing the wrong thing, and it once again fills me with rage that John burdened him with this responsibility. This show can get very deep
All I can think about is how John saved so many people, but John could have paid for a daycare or something even that would be better then staying in apartments, without any friends

Great emotional episode. They could have had more memories with JDM as to maybe make their dad slightly more likable but he was busy all the time. I love the reveal about how he got the “samulet”. So wholesome
The fact that young Sam and old Sam are almost identical is beautiful

I'm with you on what you said about Christmas. It's why the Judy Garland original of 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' always got to me... "Someday soon we all will be togehter, if the fates allow. Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow..."
Another great episode.... The flashback scenes were good but those scenes do make me sad. I don't like watching the brothers fighting. I feel like they dragged John through the mud. The fact that he didn't come home on Christmas is just really sucky and really sad. But Dean decorating for Sam and Sam getting him the necklace was SO SWEET. And I love that Dean still wears it.
I can see why Sam didn't want to celebrate and why Dean did, knowing it was his last year. But I am glad that Sam decorated for Dean in the end and they got each other gifts, they are so cute. I swear Sam almost said he loved him but stopped himself. I love them so much.
My fav Christmas tradition 😂😂 I do weekly infusions and this episode scared my home nurse 😂😂 brings back hilarious memories

I really love the concept with these gods that they're basically just trying to appear human, and they've gotten their idea of what that is from some very outdated references/media so they THINK they're blending in, but they really aren't at all, as Dean says. I've always been a little aggravated with Sam in this episode though, because I know it's painful for him, but thinking that this might be Dean's very last Christmas, it seems kinda cruel to refuse to share Christmas with Dean specifically now. I'm glad he comes around in the end.
This is the shows only Christmas episode which makes sense. Sadly they never did one with their birthday. Dean’s is January 23 I don’t know when’s Sam was

The little kid was traumatized.
And yes young Dean WAS a piece of work. A GREAT piece of work, for taking care of his brother and making sure he had as normal a childhood as possible. Young Dean was also traumatized by his mother's death and his father's revenge kick.
You're right about how we celebrate holidays anymore. When I was young we jumped into the station wagon and would go around neighborhoods looking at holiday lights. When our kids were young (90s) trick or treating was at night and that made it more atmospheric. Easter was a big family dinner after church, with an egg roll in the yard or we'd go to the city park and join hundreds of others for an egg roll. Only Thanksgiving and July 4th have maintained their nostalgia.
So much love for this episode! How they can cram in so much different emotion in one hour. The fingernail scene was so gross. It took me back to my childhood in Michigan where people took there Christmas very seriously.
No, I agree with you holidays really don't feel like holidays anymore, it's not like when I was a kid and honestly it was beautiful and I loved every holiday as a child, the last few years it just felt like no one gives a shit about the holidays.

Cool thing about the necklace is that Dean has been wearing it since episode 1, no one really thought much of it, just a necklace, but it's a special necklace because Sam gave it to him. :) The fandom has effectively named it the Samulet. XD
Also the scene after where Sam gives Dean Eggnog was real alcohol inside the glass, Jared-Sam decided he wanted to pull a little prank on Jensen-Dean and that was his genuine reaction. XD
One of the best episodes ever. The young Winchesters with Sammy finding out about the supernatural and Dean trying to spin it as something heroic, etc. Just so beautifully moving. :)
