    I like and appreciate. I'm 53 yrs old. And I remember these classic radio guys. My parents had the radio all the time in both the house and in the car in the 1960's and 70's. March 2019 N.Tonawanda, NY USA

    We, in Rochester, all tuned into KB. Great times in Western NY.

    A friend of mine was able to pick up KB with his handheld transistor radio while on the deck of an aircraft carrier going around the tip of South America!

    Oh My God. I remember listening to "KB" for many years growing up in Buffalo, and I remember listening to this guy too! WKBW was the only decent top 40 station around for many years, then WPHD went on the air, in the late '60's or early '70's, and I started listening to that station. WPHD was Buffalo's "progressive" radio station. You could hear bands like the Mothers of Invention, on WPHD, bands that WKBW didn't play. Thanks for posting!

    I totally wish 1520 ran classic radio clips such as Danny and John Otto, etc. Miss those days.

    Wow - I'd catch him in NY and RI after sundown when local stations went off and KB would come booking in. Joey Reynolds, Danny Neaverth and Tom Shannon - and earlier, George Hound Dog Lorenz - all amazing killer talents! (Interesting how no one got his name right except him - NEV-urth, not, for example, "never-ith" like the jingle singers! I loved - still do - his off-hand wisecracking; he made it sound so spontaneous but (having spent a few decades in radio myself) I know that his timing was intentional and impeccable. Thank you for posting this!

    Gosh.. Listening to him and Joey (who seemed to have Insomnia) banter back and forth, until Joey's spot came on.. He replaced Tommy Shannon, after Tommy's one hit wonder became a sensation.. (Pipeline) The Purple candle wax sealing the radio dial at 1520 AM.. and the R.O.N.P. (Royal Order of the Night People) which Joey carried on for years even into NYC..
    Wow, brought back vivid memories.. Such cards...

    This aircheck was taped on the threshold of the British Invasion in America. The Beatles had performed on the Ed Sullivan Show only 2 weeks before, and pop music would forever change thereafter.

    in college I was friends with a producer at WMEX l510 and used to hang out there some nights. 'KB was so strong that you could hear it on the air monitor speaker in the WMEX studio! by the way, we heard WBZ in Daytona Beach Florida in the middle of the afternoon. probably because the towers are in Hull, Mass. across from Nantasket Beach.

    WKBW 1520 50,000 watt would sometimes drift into WPTR 1540 Albany 50,000 watt single because of the tuner in the radio I had and would knock out WPTR because of skip. Also both station are directional and beam to the north east and east. They were both top 40 stations and I love them both back in the 1960s along with WLS 890 50,000 watt, WCFL 1000 50,000 watt Chicago, and CKCY 10,000 watt Sou St. Marie, Canada.

      Those were some great stations during those years. I had a Dx-ing book and would pencil a note next to each signal I pulled in.

    Here in Boston we had WMEX on 1510 and WKBW and WPTR would drown it out . I lived 15 miles from the WMEX towers and could hardly pick it up at night. You could go up the coast to New Hampshire and Maine and pick it up perfectly clear. It's directional signal was North & Northeast and lost most of it's signal out to sea. It was fine daytime. It was 50,000 watts daytime and had to cut to 5,000 watts at night. I lived south of the towers and thus lost night time plus where I live we had an overseas Voice Of America station with 3 towers which blocked out everything including TV channels 2-6 if you lived near the towers.

    • @chasbodaniels1744
      @chasbodaniels1744 4 года назад

      Yeah, WMEX was notorious for its null-ridden signal, which didn’t even cover the metro Boston market with those 50 kWs.

    Really liked him on the radio. Met him in person on more than one occasion.
    He was rude, crude, mean spirited and a jerk. He made fun of a person with
    obvious disabilities, just for laughs...... Enough said.......

      @@NickG123 WKBW had several personalities that were just as good as Music Radio WABC 77. Jim Quinn boomed over the East Coast at night when KB carried down to Florida with their Top 40 format.
