Bensinger might be the best interviewer in journalism. 1. Ask thoughtful questions. 2. Let interviewee answer fully and without interruption. Beautiful.
I always loved how Niki never ducked or hesitated being upfront about anything he was ever asked. Even in the beginning he just was flat out. What a legend.
The same here. In the beginning I saw one "snippet" of the interview with Graham Bensinger and ended up watching probably 10 of them because they fascinated me - also the interviews outside the studio - for example when Graham is a passenger in Nikis aircraft and in another interview between Graham, Niki and Toto Wolff
Nikki Lauda is possibly the best example of what Immanuel Kant calls the "good will". The intelligent application of will combined with consideration of all people associated with or dependent on him. James Hunt competed merely to win, for the fame. Nikki competed to prove that his understanding of what it took to be a champion was superior. A fierce competitor, Nikki was never greedy.
The same happened to Nelson Piquet. His father was against his racing career and did not support him financially. So, Nelson had to work as a mechanic to raise money for his races. Sadly, his father passed way before Nelson's victories and never witnessed his F1 success.
I have a similar issue with my grandfather, me being a music student. I really hope I can salvage a relationship before the inevitable, especially with my father gone ever since I was very young, I don't know a lot about my family.
I remember what Diana Serra Cary said once in a documentary: "You can love your parents but you don't have to like them." Diana went against her parents' wishes as they were pushing her too hard and exploiting her as an actress. She was glad to have gotten over that phase as Baby Peggy, and went on to have a successful post-acting career.
To heck with the stupid boring guy on the wine commercials are whatever that is supposed to be”the worlds most interesting man!” Niki Lauda in my book is the worlds most interesting man. His life is very intriguing and I love hearing his stories.
@@andis9076 i dont think so... Niki was already a world champion. He had already accomplished the hardest thing for a racing driver. His grandfather lost the fight the second Niki became world champion
Despite not having a good relationship with his grandfather, the most derogatory word Niki used to describe his grandfather was "old-fashioned". But other than that, he still describes his grandfather as very intelligent and industrious, so there was still a form of respect. These days, self-entitled kids just hate their parents and grandparents for disagreeing with them in the most petty things. Sad how quickly basic family values have devolved, especially now with the reality-TV era glamourisng dysfunctional families.
I agreed. The times we live in, youngsters are quick to blame anyone and degrade them to the lowest as soon as possible without thinking for a second the why, what, how of the situation. They forgot who worked to put them to school, give them what they had growing up. Mr Lauda, while rich, have the abilities to respect a man who earn his right to be respected.
theoneandonlybosable relax, he said the MOST derogatory word Niki said about his grandfather. He didnt say “Old fashioned” was the worst or an actual derogatory word. Its just goes to show how Niki still respects his grandfather even with thier different views
Nonsense. This has nothing to do with what generation it is. I’m sure when Niki was young, he would have maybe disagreed over petty things with his family as well. It’s all about age and has got nothing to do which generations of kids there is. The majority of kids who hates their family over petty things right now will come around to respect them as they mature. Just like it has always been. Youth is youth. Stop jumping on the bandwagon and blaming it on the generation, young people have always been like this and young people have always gone onto mature and they will continue to do so.
guys ... don't judge those incidents with the values in modern days ... his Grand father was very justified ... for him Niki was a spoiled kid who know nothing and will risk his life racing ... I totally understand where his grand father came from
Life is about perspective. Yes it sucks that his grandfather didn't have his back, but he still grew up wealthy, and was raised with high regard for himself. I'll bet you if Niki Lauda grew up the son of trailer trash in the rural Midwest United States he would have been a shadow of what he was. One man's bad experience would have been another man's dream come true.
If he failed in race driving his grandfather would say I told you so... Fueled him to be the best racer he can be...unfortunately his grandfather didn't see him become successful, I bet the grandfather would have been proud
He was realistic. Back then deaths from motorsports was common. The last thing the family needed was a dead member who was reckless. Luckily they didn't know how good Niki was
