I had a friend deploy 4 times and I would send a care package every 2 months for each combat deployment. I had him ask his friends what they wanted as well. The top few things I was asked to send was: Cottenell or other plush toilet paper, ziplock bags, drink mixes (Gatorade by the gallon powder was popular), beef jerky, porn on external hard drives and other movies/songs/CDs/media, batteries, un scented body wipes, nice plush and moister wicking socks. Aside from the occasional snack request, he and his friends were pretty happy with the regular items.
Bring as little as possible. You'll thank me when you ship home. Don't be a PX Ranger, you won't and don't need 100 Rambo knives. Best boots I've ever worn, Nikes. 10 years wearing issue, i put them on and it was like wearing slippers. I was upset with myself for not getting them sooner. Last about 1 year but that's fine for a deployment. Well worth the money.
Doubt I'll get my hands on any of your coins anytime soon. My recruiter was able to get his hands on a 31B OSUT spot that someone else dropped out of and gave it to me. I ship out right after valentine's day for 19 weeks of training. After that I'll be figuring out arrangements to get all of our things from SoCal to my first duty station over 2K miles away(Option 19). I'm looking forward to all the new adventures and opportunities... I'm finally following through with something that I should have just followed through with 15 years ago.
The Army has transportation that can ship your personal items from home to your duty station for free. That will be something you can set up when you get to your first duty station.
Super jealous of all you lucky mfers that get to enlist and serve in the army. I was a dumbass kid in highschool and messed up my dream of joining the military forever by getting arrested for drugs. Even though I'm clean and have gotten a college diploma and my charges expunged, they still wouldn't take me. I'm still butthurt about it because that was my dream!! Makes me depressed when i think about it these days....i tried the army, tried the marine corps, both said no multiple times 😢😢😢 i even graduated college with honors.
how about some moral stuff ? better coffee than the shitty soluble ones we get in the french rations is a big one for me, and it nets you good relationship with the guys, altough you will be the coffee hipster guy till end of deployment/exercise haha
What's the difference between the horizontal and diagonal stripes on the cuffs of your uniform in the background? I figure they have something to do with years served but am not sure why there are two versions.
I'm the process of getting into the military .I honestly don't know much yet but if I had to have one thing it be a good canteen cookset .Ive collected several as a collector .and i keep one in my big out bag and my truck .
Some leadership might let you but for the most part when it comes to key safety items like the helmet, vest and such they want you to used the issued gear.

I never held a gun and my nation wont allow it, so i dont know why people hate 3 point sling But since it mentioned here I guess i need to learn more bout it But as someone who working in tropical jungle I would recommend this: Waterproof pen & book (goddam rain is hell, but it keep instructor away tho), lot of extra sock (your feet wont regret it & other gonna steal it) Ngl, multitool, extra mag pouch & adjustable sling is quite convenient when trailing those jungle too
Disagree with basically all of this. Understand the logic, but it only makes any sense for units I was never in. Probably a better title would include “conventional forces”.
Don't go anywhere without Tabasco! It's top drawer "military grade" kit.
For a deployment some SM took a collapsable water heater to make tea and coffee ☕️
That's a pretty good idea.

That's a good one. You can definitely get a better one then the really thin one the Army gives you.
Magpul 3 point slings from Optics Planet. Creedmoor carries some very fine leather slings that are for competition if you like that sort of thing.
I would have liked to have had my own rifle and pistol mags because the ones that were issued were pieces of crap.
Ya, everyone swears by Pmags. The aluminum ones they issue are crap.
I like Garmont NFS boots!
Deploying January to Africa, this video helped, appreciate it

Just got to carson. Leaving soon for Europe thanks for video
A good gerber knife is a must -OIF Vet Camp Bucca
the leatherman are way better than the gerbers and i use them a lot i a have them issued

Believe it’s something along the lines of years of service and years deployed or something like that
About to deploy outta ft Carson, definitely useful

can i have stuff delivered to me on base once i hit my unit?
Yes
What about me bringin my own guns or blades, or my own gear
Watch the video I recommend at the end of this one for that info.
No

I would like to know if one could bring a ballistic fast helmet instead of the mich issued one... is that possible?
The ECH is a great helmet that will stop a rifle round, I don't think you'd want yo replace that

ECH? I'm familiar with the ACH, but not the ECH. I thought that's the one the Marines use?
@@capt.raptor4650I believe the army’s new helmet.
I’ve heard some rumors of insurance not covering things if you don’t use issued essential gear like PC, helmet, plates etc
