    Slightly complicated but a great jig. Certainly not for a novice. Limbs have some incredible grain structure so it’s worth the effort.

    That’s astonishing design. You are very talented.

    Very ingenious sled. It has all the major functions of a sawmill carriage. The table extension is an important part. Well thought-out and constructed.
    I've cut green logs on my bandsaw and it was not fun. They are heavy and awkward. A sled like yours would have made things easier and safer. If you are sawing green wood, be sure to use a blade designed for this. Their teeth have a wider set to prevent binding (i.e. Woodturner's Bandsaw Blade). For dry wood, a regular blade will work.

    Cool design, would you share plans?

      At the moment, I only have 3D modeling on my computer for Saw Sled.
      Currently I am quite busy and there is not much extra time for this hobby.
      But I will try to make a dimensional drawing of this device in PDF-format no later than this summer.

    Such excellent work! And what is the species you began to slice up at about 10:44?

      Curly birch (Betula pendula var. carelica). In Finnish "Visakoivu". Very dense and heavy type of wood. Here it also grows in nature. But it is mainly grown in curly birch areas for sale. Priced per Kg.
      It currently has some oversupply relative to demand.
      These trees are peeled fresh with a pressure washer and then left to dry.

      @@OSPuupaja Thank you. I've always wanted to visit Finland. When I was young, it was the hunting and fishing and girls. Now it is the civilized society and the craft. I am struck by the notion that the world's timbers bear some resemblance to the people who are native to that land.

      @@OSPuupaja Where I was raised, in Wisconsin, we also have vast areas of birch forest. In my experience what is inside the tree is evident from the bark. How do you identify such trees before they're cut?

    • @OSPuupaja
      @OSPuupaja  3 года назад +1

      There are many types and sizes of birches in the wild, however normally the birch trunk is smooth and white on the entire surface of the trunk.
      The intensity of the mutation is not inferred from the seedling of the tree, but as the tree grows, the first signs are the bumps, bulges, and drinks that appear in the trunk. The bark at the bottom of the "Curved birch" is dark and wrinkled. The tree is often bushy, has many trunks and its trunk is curved and twisted. The tree does not grow very big only 5-15m.

      @@OSPuupaja Thank you again. If I ever get back to Wisconsin I'll look for such specimens. I think I have seen trees like those cut for pulp and firewood.

      I already have good dimensional drawings in pdf format of a Wooden Bar Clamp and a Mini Workbench. But for this Saw Sled currently only 3d modeling. I will try to take the time to make the dimensional drawings and parts list in pdf format here as well. I think it will be completed now in the early summer.
