Hello everyone! Thank you so much for watching my video! I'm sorry I've been really bad at responding to every comment but please know that I am reading them. Also re:spoilers - In hindsight I really should have put a spoiler warning. I'm really sorry about that and I'll do better in future videos! Spoilers almost never bother me and actually tend to enhance my appreciation for a piece of media, so I need to try and be more sensitive to everyone else's expectations. Thank you all again~☆
I liked that you went right ahead and used specific scenes and plot developments to illustrate your points, instead of pussyfooting around the details. It gave me a much better feel for why you enjoyed the show than if you'd been highly spoiler-conscious. Disclaimer up front might have been good to accomodate those folks who think otherwise, though.
Troll like comment. You could say to confusing, to arty, not in touch with reality, I hated it or other things. Calling it boring is like calling hot sauce bland, you can say a hot sauce it too hot, too mild, yucky, distasteful and so on but not bland. Most likely you did not get it which is ok not everything is for everyone and probably what you meant by bland, saying brand sounds like a troll who did not even watch it trying to get a rise out of people. I loved it but almost nothing pleases everyone.
I absolutely love how you played the ED in the same manner they do it in the series; gently starting up as the episode wraps up before going full blast into it the song as the last scene fades.
Going into it not knowing what to expect, i found that Cocona hit me on a surprisingly visceral level; she didn't know what she was doing with herself, she was floating through life, and she was so guarded as a person that she tended to feel isolated. Plus, y'know, we share the gay as well. That part helped a lot too. The first episode had me absurdly teary, and I really hope I can, one day, meet a vibrant girl that sparks my fire like Papika sparks Cocona's. I'll be sticking around to see more of your stuff. Good work so far! ;)
I think my favorite episode was the horror world. It started off with a real sense of freight but then the frightening became mundane as it was repeated over and over till it was just accepted and mundane.
Holy hell i got teary eyed from this video alone talking about that character development and love confession. I'm 100% sold on the series, I actually was the minute you started talking about visual storytelling but now the deal has been SEALED. This comment will most probably be unseen but I just felt like thanking u and saying that oh man i'm looking forward to your next videos a lot!! The research you've done here is absolutely stunning!
Thank you so, so, so, so, SO so much for making this video. Flip Flappers deserves as much love as it can get, and this video does a perfect job at explaining why. Also- this video was pretty great overall. Loved the style and everything about it! subscribed
Excellent video, glad to see someone else who appreciates this series! I feel about the Yuri and girly stuff in Flip Flappers the same way I feel about the fanservice and sexuality in Shinkon Gattai Godannar: as a sort of entry barrier/test. In both cases, it is entirely understandable that some folk find those things off-putting and ignore/avoid/abandon the series in question; to those that aren't bothered and elect to remain, a real treat lies in store.
You've taken a series I had already watched and gave me a new layer of appreciation for it. Thank you. I shall absolutely be subscribing and looking forward to your future content.
i love your videos so much! i hope they get alot of attention soon ^-^ there are a very small amount of anime youtubers that are not male. And theres an even smaller amount of those who are actually fun to watch. i dont know if that made sense but i hope it did >:)
I really wish there where more shows as richly layered and beautiful as Flip Flappers. I don't know many other shows that take the viewer to so many vibrant and well-realised worlds, and I honestly think more adventure stories would do us all good. As a side note, this video is incredible, and I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't mind listening to you talk for 30 minutes about this! :)
Holy shit I was about to give up on finding someone who "got" FlipFlap and start unskillfully vomiting analysis of it just so it would exist for me to point at. There's loads more to dig into of course, but seriously, thanks for making this.
Coming along from the eyepatch wolf train to say thank you for making this video, you definitely have a sub from me. Your analysis seems spot on for the themes of the show, and it was wonderful to see a review that really touched on the refrences that the show makes.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! So happy to see another great anime essay style channel pop up. :) Great breakdown of a lot of the elements that make this show so special. I sort of picked up on it but now that you mention it their final outfits do look like bridal battle armor and that new revelation only adds to my enjoyment of this show. Thank you.
I've been meaning to watch it for a while because I love the visuals and they appeal to me pretty much exactly. Now I must get er done! Great video as well! I've felt similarly about my fav anime and it's great to hear someone break it down and bring more meaning to it. So uh yeah. yay! haha
This video was really interesting and informative it makes me want to pick up the show again since I dropped it after episode 3. I looove the visuals and animation to death but Cocona and Papika just don't seem like interesting characters to me. Maybe that changes later on in the series but I want to go on this crazy journey with characters I actually care about.
You mention the world-hopping is like kingdom hearts, but based on all the visual showcases in here, the style and feel reminds me alot more of Space Dandy and Humanity has Declined. Great vid btw. Subscribed right after seeing the Non Non Biyori vid.
This is awesome! Definitely see the immediate similarity in animation to FLCL fight sequences. Hmm, a lot of your commentary about audio/visual story telling makes me think Space Dandy is worth exploring under this lens. Also busting out them lit/philosophy terrrmmmsss *airhorn plays repeatedly*
discovered you through your latest video then :) i went to watch back your previous videos because i think you're super cool and i am fascinated of you.
This show is gorgeous, but it also is hard to digest and that's why I think it's so underated. I noticed many references but I couldn't understand even half of them. It'd be great if you made a video explaining everything that's going on in Flip Flappers (and probably there would still be something missing lol) Hope this show gets more recognition, Flip Flap Flip Flap
Several months ago I watched FF and enjoyed it. Then 4 months ago I watched this review of FF and thought it was excellent. Because of your review I put FF back on my anime queue to rewatch which I just finished last night. Applying your review to rewatching this anime, I suddenly realized I missed most of the essential points here. It was like watching an anime for the first time. I now think this review of yours is brilliant with no qualifications. Look forward to all your future reviews. Bravo!
*Amazing review and analysis of Flip Flappers!* Only issue I had with it was that I can't really show it to people as a "here's why you should watch Flip Flappers"-video since it contains too many spoilers - in my opinion! Gave it a like and will instead use it as a basis for discussion when someone *has* seen it, rather than *before* they do. Keep up the good work!
Your my hero ceicocat I’ve been looking for this anime for years since I first watched it I had forgotten its name but could so vividly remember its first episode and now thanks to your video (and begrudgingly google) I finally found this piece of my early teen years
Great video! Flip Flappers was such a surprise when it came out. I hope the director gets more work. Also damn girl, you're subscriber count just pierced the fucking heavens.
Here from Super Eyepatch Wolf's video - subscribing because of the fantastic analytical content. If every video you make is one eighth as good as this one, you'll have a truly amazing channel.
holy shit a slightly more serious demolition d appeared, well I guess I'm contractually obligated to sub loved this video! good balance of realtalk anime review with big comedy jokes.
"Pure Illusion"??? By the way thanks, because of you I discovered that "Fantasmagoria" is an actual word in my language. To this day I strugle to understand how this show managed to get Polish dubbing... That show was just build different.
Eyepatch bump. I love your music choice and presentation in general. You've given me plenty to think about on a show that I think went over my head for one reason or another. Looking forward to more videos.
It's not really inline with a 'why you should watch' but rather a 'what I enjoyed about'. But great video subscribed, it's obvious you have great content and more to come :D
Hi, I watched your review and that made me watch Flip Flappers. In the first instance this anime didn't tell me anything new but the perspective you show in the video is incredible. I appreciated the anime so much more with your comments that I would like to thank you and tell you that I'm really expecting more reviews like that. Thanks for your hard work and keep at it. You're great.
Thank you so much for putting out these videos! Although I'm still on the fence about watching YOI and Flip Flappers, watching your videos made me realize just how much scenery, art, and environment can contribute so much to the story of something. Before watching your videos, I had always taken the art of the environment for granted, often dismissing them as only slightly significant. I thought this way because I either got somewhat bored of the scenery, or the stories that I go through just don't make it a main focus. So thanks for all of this! Maybe I will check out the anime that you covered on your channel some time in the future.
You've managed to sum up my feelings on Flip Flappers in an eloquent way. I think one of the later plot twists did make me go "uhhh" but other then that it was really beautiful and definitely deserves more love.
okay I'm sold, flip flappers will be in my watchlist. let's watch some mahou shoujo! Great video btw, got here because of supereyepatchwolf and I enjoyed every second of your video
Letting you know I came from eyepatch wolf and I hope for wonderful content which I'm sure you deliver on :) and I hope that the influx of people watching your videos does not hinder you
Very engaging video! I think that aside from my lull in watching narrative media in general of late, the only real reason I can speak to not having watched Flip Flappers yet is that it's almost *too* "me," if that makes any sense. Regardless, I'm glad to have this as a reminder that this show is out there and that it is probably brilliant.
I'm here becausee of EyepatchWolf and every minute of this video worth it, i really like the way you make this video, i can't wait to see whats next, great work! you totally sold me Flip Flappers
Came here from Super Eyepatch Wolf and this is really good. I never caught the Old Hag - Young Woman allusion when I watched Flip Flappers. Having just finished it last week, I was having trouble saying why it was good even though it's kind of baffling, but this video makes really good points. Subscribed.
Glad to see someone give this show an informative review, pointing out some of the things referenced in FliFla. Though I was part of the group of people who believed it fell apart at the end (except for 13, in which the animators and writers at least managed to cobble together something worthwhile and conclusive), I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. If its crew didn't get fucked over by scheduling, I feel it might've been even better.
This video is very well done and I greatly appreciate your ability to see the artistic intentions of a show like this. I'll go watch the show now c: Good job
Wow, this video is REALLY good. Like, AMAZINGLY good. The writing is on point, it never goes too far into itself to lose the viewer in analysis, and it really helps explain to all audiences some higher level concepts that went into the show. Your voice is very soothing and energized and carries what you're saying. your editing is on point, while still being simple enough to not go into "editing porn" style content. Just subscribed :)
Absolutely phenomenal video, Flip Flappers was my favorite show of 2016 and I think you really nailed the head on a lot of it's best aspects here. It's also nice to see a female anime youtuber doing the kinds of videos I enjoy. I'll definitely be subscribed to see what you do next.
the moment i heard the reeeeaally subtle persona 4 music i had to subscribe, i hope to see stuff like this in the future! who knows, maybe something about persona 5 once it comes out?
That was SO friggin' good! I can't emphasize that enough. I loved Flip Flappers to death, and your video really did it justice. If you ever feel up to it, it'd be awesome to hear the rest of what you had to say! Things like the flower symbolism, fanservice shots and their relation to Thomasson-like characters (Bu and Nyu), thematically significant references (the visual references to EVA in the last few episodes that primed people for the ending developments), and a whole bunch of other stuff! Anyways, have an upvote and subscribe, you earned it. I look forward to seeing your next video!
Came here from Super Eyepatch Wolf's video and wow, he was totally right. You're videos are really well done! I hadn't realized how many of those philosophical references I missed. *spoilers incoming...sort of* I wonder what your thoughts are on the whole Mimi thing and the turn to a more straightforward, plot driven, NGE style narrative the show takes in its latter half. I love this show (and am currently re-watching it with my school's anime club) and I'm noticing all the little things in the first 6-7 episodes that just get dropped or downplayed until the last episode (weird Hell door, the focus on Cocona's self-actualization (which is exchanged instead for Mimi's story), and the nature of pure illusion suddenly changing.). It felt like the show's writers were trying to make sense of all the visual motif's in a very literal way which frustrates me because a lot of nuance is lost. I love that the way your structured and cut your video in such a way as to highlight that thematic through line, even if the show itself seemed to forget about it at some point, which is a shame because the show could have been so much more amazing if they had constantly structured it in the way you present it in your video. But yeah, keep up the awesome videos!
I loved the way the show visually represented Cocona's and Papika duality and complementarity. There is a lot to like about this show, besides the gorgeous animation.
welp, there was minor spoilers and such XD. if you named "Why You Should Watch Flip Flappers", it will be well appreciated if you can put in a warning"(slight) SPOILERS", even how predictable a series is. everything aside, i love how you analyze animus with multimedia production eyes, *idk the exact term of this XD*, and keep up the good work (o uo)b
ceicocat I didn't mind the spoilers because I don't mind spoilers in general, but a clear division between spoiler and non spoiler territory is appreciated by some viewers. :)
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for watching my video! I'm sorry I've been really bad at responding to every comment but please know that I am reading them.

Keep up the good work. I'm excited for another video as well made as this one.
the anime is boring af

I loved it but almost nothing pleases everyone.
Glad to see someone loves Flip Flappers as much as I do. This was an excellent analysis of a terrific and underrated show! :)
I absolutely love how you played the ED in the same manner they do it in the series; gently starting up as the episode wraps up before going full blast into it the song as the last scene fades.

I think my favorite episode was the horror world.

this was a perfect video explaining the depth of Flip Flappers.
I loved the summarising sentence the most. Perfect
Thank you so, so, so, so, SO so much for making this video. Flip Flappers deserves as much love as it can get, and this video does a perfect job at explaining why. Also- this video was pretty great overall. Loved the style and everything about it! subscribed
1:24 i thought that was blood on her mouth. her looking so happy with something so disturbing out of no where was kinda jarring
Unbelievable video. I didn't notice even a quarter of this stuff when watching the show, so this was an incredible revelation for me.
Excellent video, glad to see someone else who appreciates this series!

What a fantastic video! I was lukewarm about Flip Flappers after the first two episodes, but I am now completely turned around!
Great video! Flip Flappers was such a surprise when it came out. I hope the director gets more work. Also damn girl, you're subscriber count just pierced the fucking heavens.

You've given me plenty to think about on a show that I think went over my head for one reason or another. Looking forward to more videos.

Great video!! Happy to see more people talking about this show.
Haha you did the ending theme bit. I always got hyped when the show did it. Very fitting way to end this ;)
God this anime looks so precious and the way you describe it is so wonderful! you sound like you're in love!
Congrats on the +1000 new subs from super eyepatch wolf.

Anyways, have an upvote and subscribe, you earned it. I look forward to seeing your next video!
Came here from Super Eyepatch Wolf's video and wow, he was totally right. You're videos are really well done! I hadn't realized how many of those philosophical references I missed.
*spoilers incoming...sort of*
I wonder what your thoughts are on the whole Mimi thing and the turn to a more straightforward, plot driven, NGE style narrative the show takes in its latter half.
There is a lot to like about this show, besides the gorgeous animation.
ah your background music choices are mmm so good
ah, thank you!!
Loooooooonely rolling staaaaaa! God the original katamari ost is such a masterpiece... Nice review!
welp, there was minor spoilers and such XD. if you named "Why You Should Watch Flip Flappers", it will be well appreciated if you can put in a warning"(slight) SPOILERS", even how predictable a series is.
everything aside, i love how you analyze animus with multimedia production eyes, *idk the exact term of this XD*, and keep up the good work (o uo)b
Ah, sorry! I'll try to be better with spoiler warnings.
ceicocat I didn't mind the spoilers because I don't mind spoilers in general, but a clear division between spoiler and non spoiler territory is appreciated by some viewers. :)
You really encapsulated why I loved this show.
