I liked that you went right ahead and used specific scenes and plot developments to illustrate your points, instead of pussyfooting around the details. It gave me a much better feel for why you enjoyed the show than if you'd been highly spoiler-conscious. Disclaimer up front might have been good to accomodate those folks who think otherwise, though.
Troll like comment. You could say to confusing, to arty, not in touch with reality, I hated it or other things. Calling it boring is like calling hot sauce bland, you can say a hot sauce it too hot, too mild, yucky, distasteful and so on but not bland. Most likely you did not get it which is ok not everything is for everyone and probably what you meant by bland, saying brand sounds like a troll who did not even watch it trying to get a rise out of people. I loved it but almost nothing pleases everyone.
I think my favorite episode was the horror world. It started off with a real sense of freight but then the frightening became mundane as it was repeated over and over till it was just accepted and mundane.
I absolutely love how you played the ED in the same manner they do it in the series; gently starting up as the episode wraps up before going full blast into it the song as the last scene fades.
Going into it not knowing what to expect, i found that Cocona hit me on a surprisingly visceral level; she didn't know what she was doing with herself, she was floating through life, and she was so guarded as a person that she tended to feel isolated. Plus, y'know, we share the gay as well. That part helped a lot too. The first episode had me absurdly teary, and I really hope I can, one day, meet a vibrant girl that sparks my fire like Papika sparks Cocona's. I'll be sticking around to see more of your stuff. Good work so far! ;)
This video was really interesting and informative it makes me want to pick up the show again since I dropped it after episode 3. I looove the visuals and animation to death but Cocona and Papika just don't seem like interesting characters to me. Maybe that changes later on in the series but I want to go on this crazy journey with characters I actually care about.

Excellent video, glad to see someone else who appreciates this series! I feel about the Yuri and girly stuff in Flip Flappers the same way I feel about the fanservice and sexuality in Shinkon Gattai Godannar: as a sort of entry barrier/test. In both cases, it is entirely understandable that some folk find those things off-putting and ignore/avoid/abandon the series in question; to those that aren't bothered and elect to remain, a real treat lies in store.

I really wish there where more shows as richly layered and beautiful as Flip Flappers. I don't know many other shows that take the viewer to so many vibrant and well-realised worlds, and I honestly think more adventure stories would do us all good. As a side note, this video is incredible, and I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't mind listening to you talk for 30 minutes about this! :)

This show is gorgeous, but it also is hard to digest and that's why I think it's so underated. I noticed many references but I couldn't understand even half of them. RIght up until a bit past the middle of the series, the whole thing struck me as an interesting sci-fi adventure, I was wondering about the mechanisms of pure illusion, the motivations behind the 'evil' and the 'good' organization and what the collection of those objects would lead to. But towards the end, all that mattered to me was the love between Cocona and Papika.

Pablo Rivas Even if last season was considerably better, I wouldn't say this one was completely lost on us. Between Onihei, Rakugo, Blue Exorcist, ACCA and March comes in like a lion I still found at least 5 shows worth keeping up with, which is about the amount I watch each season anyway.
ceicocat Well for me I enjoyed this season though not all the shows, I only watched Kuzu no Honkai, Kobayashi, Little Witch Academia, Konosuba and Youjo Senki. Btw, nice analysis on Flip Flappers! I really liked this show though I'd say that the ending was quite lacking for me and I believed that some characters don't have much relevant function to the story. But it ended on a clear note which I'm glad of at least. Overall I'd rate this show from a scale of 6-8.
the moment i heard the reeeeaally subtle persona 4 music i had to subscribe, i hope to see stuff like this in the future! who knows, maybe something about persona 5 once it comes out?

Although I'm still on the fence about watching YOI and Flip Flappers, watching your videos made me realize just how much scenery, art, and environment can contribute so much to the story of something. Before watching your videos, I had always taken the art of the environment for granted, often dismissing them as only slightly significant. I thought this way because I either got somewhat bored of the scenery, or the stories that I go through just don't make it a main focus. So thanks for all of this! Maybe I will check out the anime that you covered on your channel some time in the future.
Several months ago I watched FF and enjoyed it. Then 4 months ago I watched this review of FF and thought it was excellent. Because of your review I put FF back on my anime queue to rewatch which I just finished last night. I love this anime, only saw it a few months ago and I thought it was very charming. Didn't know about all the art references. There's some art of Papika and Cocona as the cover to that one Flipper's Guitar album.

I must say that Flip Flappers really goes to ur seal and say "Do it and make the first step" to someone you really like or love and you are an other person fellt like
I thought the show had some flaws, like in some severely underdeveloped characters (the twins, that third child, and the people on the computer end of pure illusion, as well as the 'villian' organisation) and the nature of the plot revealed towards the conclusion, but in the end i was only ever in it for Papika and Cocona, and im glad they were done so well. Strong 8/10 for me. Really enjoyed this video. Got a kick out of the Bridal Battle Armor line. Keen to see more!
This is fantastic, first off. That said, I think a better title for this would be something like "Why Flip Flappers is a great anime.", because you give so much away about some of what seem to be the anime's key points and events. You basically end up summarizing it, which for some might make them less compelled to go and watch it for themselves.
Came here from Super Eyepatch Wolf's video and wow, he was totally right. You're videos are really well done! I hadn't realized how many of those philosophical references I missed. *spoilers incoming...sort of* I wonder what your thoughts are on the whole Mimi thing and the turn to a more straightforward, plot driven, NGE style narrative the show takes in its latter half. I love this show (and am currently re-watching it with my school's anime club) and I'm noticing all the little things in the first 6-7 episodes that just get dropped or downplayed until the last episode (weird Hell door, the focus on Cocona's self-actualization (which is exchanged instead for Mimi's story), and the nature of pure illusion suddenly changing.). It felt like the show's writers were trying to make sense of all the visual motif's in a very literal way which frustrates me because a lot of nuance is lost. I love that the way your structured and cut your video in such a way as to highlight that thematic through line, even if the show itself seemed to forget about it at some point, which is a shame because the show could have been so much more amazing if they had constantly structured it in the way you present it in your video. But yeah, keep up the awesome videos!

You've managed to sum up my feelings on Flip Flappers in an eloquent way. I think one of the later plot twists did make me go "uhhh" but other then that it was really beautiful and definitely deserves more love.

That was SO friggin' good! I can't emphasize that enough. I loved Flip Flappers to death, and your video really did it justice. If you ever feel up to it, it'd be awesome to hear the rest of what you had to say! Things like the flower symbolism, fanservice shots and their relation to Thomasson-like characters (Bu and Nyu), thematically significant references (the visual references to EVA in the last few episodes that primed people for the ending developments), and a whole bunch of other stuff! Glad to see someone give this show an informative review, pointing out some of the things referenced in FliFla. Though I was part of the group of people who believed it fell apart at the end (except for 13, in which the animators and writers at least managed to cobble together something worthwhile and conclusive), I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. If its crew didn't get fucked over by scheduling, I feel it might've been even better.

Pablo Rivas Even if last season was considerably better, I wouldn't say this one was completely lost on us. Between Onihei, Rakugo, Blue Exorcist, ACCA and March comes in like a lion I still found at least 5 shows worth keeping up with, which is about the amount I watch each season anyway.

ceicocat Well for me I enjoyed this season though not all the shows, I only watched Kuzu no Honkai, Kobayashi, Little Witch Academia, Konosuba and Youjo Senki. Btw, nice analysis on Flip Flappers! I really liked this show though I'd say that the ending was quite lacking for me and I believed that some characters don't have much relevant function to the story. But it ended on a clear note which I'm glad of at least. Overall I'd rate this show from a scale of 6-8.

Thank you so much for putting out these videos! Although I'm still on the fence about watching YOI and Flip Flappers, watching your videos made me realize just how much scenery, art, and environment can contribute so much to the story of something. Before watching your videos, I had always taken the art of the environment for granted, often dismissing them as only slightly significant. I thought this way because I either got somewhat bored of the scenery, or the stories that I go through just don't make it a main focus. So thanks for all of this! Maybe I will check out the anime that you covered on your channel some time in the future.

I love this anime, only saw it a few months ago and I thought it was very charming. Didn't know about all the art references. There's some art of Papika and Cocona as the cover to that one Flipper's Guitar album.

I thought the show had some flaws, like in some severely underdeveloped characters (the twins, that third child, and the people on the computer end of pure illusion, as well as the 'villian' organisation) and the nature of the plot revealed towards the conclusion, but in the end i was only ever in it for Papika and Cocona, and im glad they were done so well. Strong 8/10 for me. Really enjoyed this video. Got a kick out of the Bridal Battle Armor line. Keen to see more!

This is fantastic, first off. That said, I think a better title for this would be something like "Why Flip Flappers is a great anime.", because you give so much away about some of what seem to be the anime's key points and events. You basically end up summarizing it, which for some might make them less compelled to go and watch it for themselves.

I wonder what your thoughts are on the whole Mimi thing and the turn to a more straightforward, plot driven, NGE style narrative the show takes in its latter half. I love this show (and am currently re-watching it with my school's anime club) and I'm noticing all the little things in the first 6-7 episodes that just get dropped or downplayed until the last episode (weird Hell door, the focus on Cocona's self-actualization (which is exchanged instead for Mimi's story), and the nature of pure illusion suddenly changing.). It felt like the show's writers were trying to make sense of all the visual motif's in a very literal way which frustrates me because a lot of nuance is lost. I love that the way your structured and cut your video in such a way as to highlight that thematic through line, even if the show itself seemed to forget about it at some point, which is a shame because the show could have been so much more amazing if they had constantly structured it in the way you present it in your video.
But yeah, keep up the awesome videos!

You've managed to sum up my feelings on Flip Flappers in an eloquent way. I think one of the later plot twists did make me go "uhhh" but other then that it was really beautiful and definitely deserves more love.
Super Eyepatch Wolf recommended me here and he was right. your video is fantastic and now I will watch this series that I never would have watched before. I don't even think I would have heard of this anime if I didn't watch this video.

I loved Flip Flappers to death, and your video really did it justice. If you ever feel up to it, it'd be awesome to hear the rest of what you had to say! Things like the flower symbolism, fanservice shots and their relation to Thomasson-like characters (Bu and Nyu), thematically significant references (the visual references to EVA in the last few episodes that primed people for the ending developments), and a whole bunch of other stuff!

Glad to see someone give this show an informative review, pointing out some of the things referenced in FliFla. Though I was part of the group of people who believed it fell apart at the end (except for 13, in which the animators and writers at least managed to cobble together something worthwhile and conclusive), I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. If its crew didn't get fucked over by scheduling, I feel it might've been even better.
