Just a heads up, my channel is being bombarded with spambots impersonating me. If you get a reply from "me" asking you to DM them, or mentioning anything about "telegram", it's a scam. I do not and will never use telegram, and I would never ask random viewers to DM me.
Be safe guys, and report any spam accounts if you can!
I almost fell for it. :( Flipping scary...
Thanks, I got two and was wondering why the hell would you be on Telegram
One replied to me earlier lol. Thank goodness it's already deleted.
Yeah, got like one or tho a these replying...
Kinda sucks, because I, for a split second, almost thought you did reply to my message 😅
Edit: Oh shoot, they're spreading to your other videos now...
You know you made it when the spam bots impersonate you.
In all seriousness, I’m very glad the spam bots were removed so quickly.
THE TIMING! I'm from Córdoba, Argentina, and have currently have just started taking the video game design couse at the IES university college, just a few days ago they used this game as an example of what some previous students had went on to create. It's so surreal to see you cover it.
Crazy. They’re talented
The whitest guy in Argentina
You know it’s a good platformer when NitroRad breaks out a cute flow chart for the moveset.
Same. Nitro Rad should use flowcharts more often.
Yea
What a wonderful blend of genres. I’d love to see game devs combine different genres and experiment with what they can come up with
My favorite genre mixers would have to be Guacamelee (Metroidvania + side scrolling beat em up) and Ultrakill (Boomer Shooter + Stylish Action). Also excited for Gloomwood, a combo of Thief (itself a combo of Stealth and ImmersiveSim) and Survival Horror.
Haven’t seen a game with as good genre blends as… life is strange:true colors? I know very different game but same thing. LIS:TC was very good imo, mixing adventure with RPG, decision based gameplay and dialogue heavy cutscenes. This game takes a bit from every game genre and nicely implements in into the core gameplay
FPS + dating sim
Match-three puzzler + text adventure
Kart racer + roguelike
2d brawler + digital pet
The possibilities are endless!
@@ClarenceFlanagan Not sure if you're joking or not but i'm gonna steal one of you're ideas and make it into a game tho
(If i ever know how to do one, tho)
@@Esitaro3670 Go right ahead! I was just plucking opposite-end concepts out of my brain and mashing them together. 😂
I had the privilege of playing a small demo of this game in 2019 at an argentinian game developer event, words can't express how happy I am to see it succeed and get this sort of praise. Someday it'll be one of the big names in our local game history.
LOLgentina 😎
MI PAÍS MI PAÍS
The segment about movement and combat made me remember one of Bruce Campbell's lines in the hints of the game Spider-Man 2: "Just because there is only one button called "attack" doesn't mean it's the only one you can use wink wink"
Blue fire is such an under appreciated game, I’m so happy seeing someone talking about it!
Bot..
@@jonahabenhaim1223what do you mean?
19:32 Throughout the video I was going like "Oh this game looks sick, and I love the assets and level design style, so I'd love to make custom levels for it" and you have no idea how hype I got when you said that they have a free level editor
Mystical Ninja on N64 is also pretty close to an OOT x Mario 64 mashup. Might be up your alley
Someone got out of the basement
Honestly I'm kinda surprised Nitro Rad hasn't made a video on that game. It's a great N64 platformer that deserves a bit more attention.
It's been a while, but I remember that one being rather boring, personally, with its overly large, empty maps. I guess it wanted to one-up OoT, but... it focused on the wrong thing. Its lack of difficulty didn't help. You certainly don't have any of Mario 64's movement, either.
Its 2D sidescrolling "sequel" is much more entertaining, IIRC. Though, it leans a bit much on the other side of the difficulty spectrum: its boss/castle stages were looooooooong so Game Overs were misery.
@@VonFirflirch It didn't try to one-up OoT at all. It released a full year before OoT did. It did a 3D Zelda-like thing well before Zelda even did.
It's not a perfect game or anything (lack of real difficulty, empty maps, basic movement.) But it has some good points too! (Creative bossfights, fantastic soundtrack, neat setpieces and dungeon design.)
@@retrauk
Oh right, I think I had read about that, must have forgotten.
Yeah, I did like the music, especially the way dungeons themes would keep building up as you progressed through them.
This game rules. I've been wanting a Zelda-like 3D platformer for ages too, so I made sure to buy this game as soon as possible back when it came out. Great video, very happy to see you talk about this game.
@Hermann[best channel] ?
He’s a bot
Yay! glad to see this game getting covered, caught my eye on a sale a while back and was hooked by the trailer
I don't know about other platforms, but the game is currently on sale on the PlayStation Store for $10.99. I bought it immediately and so far put about an hour in and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks or the recommendation, Nitro Rad!
As someone who loves 3D platformers this game was a blast, even if it was shorter than I expected.
Also, I didn't know this was made by an Argentinian developer. Glad to see fellow countrymen succeed.
SOY CORDOBÉS, ME GUSTA EL VINO Y LA JODA, Y LO TOMO SIN SODA PORQUE ASÍ PEGA MÁS, PEGA MÁS, PEGA MÁS
Super happy to see someone else played this game. I really loved this one, thanks for making a video on it! It really deserves more attention and love.
Man, I wasn't expecting to see you review a game made by fellow Argentinians! I somehow never heard of this game, despite it being from my own country. It looks super fun, I dig that combination of 3D Platformer and Adventure game. I'm definitely gonna check it out! Thanks a lot for covering this, James.
FINALLY someone is talking about this game. This was the GOTY of 2021 in my opinion. Easily. Big respect for covering this.
What a lovely review of a game I have never heard of. I should try and check it out if I can find copies on the consoles I have, because you make it sound great.
The moment I saw the title, my first thought was: "CROSSFIIIRRREE! You'll get caught up in the CROSSFIIIRRREE!" I don't know why, but it was the first thing that popped un my head, and I was hooked.
Got this from Humble Bundle in one of their monthly bundles and was going to give it a go on the Steam Deck.
I love this game so much! Robi (the dev) is such a nice person as well, and the community too!
The main character's name is Umbra btw! And I really dislike the hair as well ahah
Luckily there are some skins that remove them!
Absolutely fell in love with this game. What a pleasant surprise this was. Was waiting for you to do a video of this one
HECK YES, I’ve been waiting for your review of this game for months! So happy it’s here!
finally! been waiting for this video for a year now! your mentions of this game got me interested in it, and i absolutely loved it! hopefully this video will give the game some more attention
Nitro Rad, I want to say that out of all game review RUclipsrs I've seen, I always had fun watching your reviews on all sorts of games. If anything I can takeaway from your videos is that it helped me to become more open-minded when playing games while still acknowledging how other people feel about it. I also appreciate you taking an extra mile into exploring every aspect of every game you play, it makes me want to try out the games for myself.
Keep up the good work
I was just thinking yesterday that it's been a while since you uploaded. Great to see you again!
for some reason platformer elements and level design logic gives me vibes of Hat in time and Celeste mixture, definitely gonna play it.
The void challenges are very reminiscent of AHiT's rifts to me.
i havent seen a video from you but i know how much youve wanted to do this one for a while now. i enjoyed the video, the game's got such a tiny community so its nice to see more exposure, the movement goes so much harder in speedrunning terms, lots of cool mechanics such as moon jumping, dynedashes, spin attack, frame perfect chests and lever hits, etc. i'd recommend checking them out just to see the true peak of blue fire movement and tech.
Glad you got around to making a video on it! Blue fire to me always felt like a hidden gem. It goes super cheap all the time in sales and is definitely worth anyones time who enjoys platforming.
2:00 That mail on the bottom right corner 😶
Was scrolling through the comments and thought we're just gonna ignore that. Glad I'm not the only one to notice. 😅
Eyyyyy you got to it. Game good, really excited to see what the studio does next. I'd love to see a game where they both have that passion, and a bit more experience.
Yoooo I was looking forward to this one! Loved this little game when I played it, and I'm glad to see you finally taking a look at it!
1 other thing that i found really fascinating about blue fire is how its handling controller vibration
i newer played any game that was using it SO good
every little jump or slash with sword or anything you do you can feel in your hands
such attention to such a small detail is just beautiful
Great video my friend! Also that Hotel Dusk investigation theme at the end, good stuff.
Always makes my day when a new nitro rad video comes out
Glad to see you finally got the review for this out.
Beat this game earlier this year and had a blast with it though people weren't really talking about it, hopefully with your video more people will play it even more so with the songs of praise you're giving it
you know what? I bought this game a while ago, and now you're making me wanting to play it!
Aw yeah!! Nice to see some more coverage on Blue Fire. It’s a gem! 😁
One of the most memorable moments I had while playing this was getting to the top of the abandoned path tower. I didn’t have the double jump and half the time I couldn’t tell if it was possible or not. But it was so satisfying to finally get to the top.
This honestly looks tons of fun, thanks for introducing me to it!.
Glad you're shining a light on this game, I really enjoyed it too
The Hotel Dusk Room 215 ost at the end was a fantastic choice, so nostalgic~
that sounds like a heck of a fun time to be had. gonna need to look into it for sure.
It's been a while since I last had to stop a video before finishing it to open the game page and wishlist it right away. I'm sure I'll love this game.
Will watch tomorrow but I wanna stop by to leave my like. Always happy to enjoy some new Nitro Rad!
Always good to see a new Nitro Rad upload!
The artstyle looks fantasic
Woo! Just in time for a new Nitro Rad video. Feels like Christmas already. I can't wait for a few months when I get to hear "Halloween Special" again.
Nitro Rad has been posting more in the Garanikor account so I'm expecting big things this Halloween
I really enjoyed playing this game. It's one of the only 3D indie platformers so far where I fully completed it, achievements and all. Great review, dude! :)
God, now that you've pointed it out, it looks like all the hair on these characters has just been...grafted on, and I can't unsee it.
Thank you for yet another lovely recommendation of a game I otherwise would have never heard of.
Worth the purchase just for the music
I'm glad this review is finally out! The shy guy idea is genius.
The shy guy took a wrong turn at Albuquerque. ^_^
Great video, can't wait to check this game out and maybe even recommend to friends
Thanks for letting me know about this, looks awesome.
Love the artstyle so much
Love this game. Picked it up on PS4 on day one, and got the platinum in two days. I was hooked! A perfect blend of Mario and Zelda in a Souls-like world. The bonus areas as well were great fun to tackle. Absolute genius.
Hope there's a sequel.
What a coincidence, I just bought the game like two days ago. Great timing
I’ve been waiting on you to review this! I wanted to hear from you on this game rather than mainstream reviewers because you understand 3D platformers so much better.
3D Platformer Souls-like Metroidvania is a blend I never anticipated but want so much more now
Great video! I think you did a great job explaining why things like double jumping would work in this specific context. Not to mention this looks like a fun game so I’m glad you shed a light on it. Also, only in a NitroRad video will you hear how an indie platformer compares to Ruff Trigger :P
You always find games (esp platformers) that I’ve never heard of + look really cool to me personally
I remembered your video and ended up purchasing this. I love it so far!
YES YES YESSS!! As soon as you mentioned Blue Fire and said you were going to do a review on it I have been waiting so excitedly for it! Blue fire is one of my favourite games now and I adore it, thanks for the wonderful video!
Also, the main character's name is Umbra!
Blue fire is a fantastic game, glad to see you giving it it's dues.
Really digging the new pfp as well!
Thanks to you I found one of my all-time games! Blue Fire is really awesome!!
Why I watch NitroRad videos: 1:50 even if I genuinely do NOT care about the game (which you kinda can't, even if you would never play it he does such a good job wrapping you into understanding the game, feeling the frustrations and flow of fun, explaining parts in depth but not getting lost in detail so you keep watching to learn exactly what the game is and what it made him feel) I get a laugh at his little bits like that email name.
Legend of A Hat In Knight Souls.
When you mentioned getting a choice to play a level with the intended move set I immediately thought of the parts in sunshine where flood gets stolen. Maybe an in game reason to limit the move set for those parts specifically could work too. Something to keep the immersion in tact, rather than “how would you like to play this level.”
I love when game devs take two genres and mix them up in a fantastic combo! This game looks like a must have to me!
Man that bit at 12:45 where you talked about increasing the capability of moving around the world, and then mess up a jump that you could have done was funny as hell. Like he dude watch what I can do, and then mess it up.
I'm glad someone else reviewed this wonderful game. Blue Fire needs all the love.
wonderful vid. will check it out on PC
Love that the walljump/run is unlocked by picking up a claw gauntlet. Prince of Persia 2008 reboot my beloved.
What a beautiful video, you have me convinced
Buying on all 3 (PC, Switch, PS5)
Looks pretty good! Ii’ll get it on the switch, seems perfect for it.
I remember the strangest coincidence happening involving this game. I watched your Demon Turf review, and of course you mentioned Blue Fire at the end of it. Well only a day or two later I get a mystery game bundle on fanatical and lo and behold Blue Fire is one of the games in that bundle.
I immediately downloaded it and played it all the way through including the dlc, and I loved it. I'm glad to see you finally talking about it.
Thank you for the video.
Good to see you're back. Btw I just discovered this game series called "Hello Charlotte" and It reminded me of your old videos talking about Yume Nikki, so I was wondering If you'd played It, It's pretty good.
Vamos, Argentina.
Heads up. Today 8/3 Blue Fire is 9.99 on the Eshop
Hope you plan on reviewing "Hell Pie" soon. I'm playing through it right now, honestly it might have my favourite move-set in any (non-Mario) 3D platformer I've played!
Demon Turf > Hell Pie
agreed! im loving hell pie so far and would love to see him review it
Thank you for introducing blue fire. I hope the studio that makes them will get better and bigger
been loving these indie deep dives! Just got the ps4 ver and ill try this out.
I've been wondering how to have an RPG character progression system for gameplay other than combat for a while now. It's cool that this game figured out how to do that for platforming. It's also cool how it figured out how to integrate melee combat into a 3D platformer in a way that works.
This game seems really fun, reminds me of Wind Waker quite a bit and I love that game quite a bit for it's style alone. Glad to see something to successfully take on the Zelda concept as a platformer as successful as Blue Fire here, might pick it up at a later date.
I played a bit of Blue Fire last year while on vacation for the switch, but never got too far in it. I remember enjoying it quite a bit during my short time with it, but just never came back to it. I might go back to it once I complete Hell Pie on my Steam Deck.
I got this as part of a humble bundle a long time ago but never got to it. This finally convinced me to play it
nice to see ya back nitro!
the game also has a well hiden triple jumpspirit and a "ruan on the air" spirit so the moveset is even crazier than whay you said, good video
Yo! I love this game! Definitely up your street for sure! I saw this game in Iron Pineapple’s “__ more soulslikes you’ve never heard of” series
I got this one on sale a few months ago for cheap, I still need to crack it open. I’ve got the PC version. Glad to know I paid good money for this, and I can’t wait to see what cool custom void levels there are.
an amazing game, finished it 130 percent and I want more...
though there are a few criticisms that i could say the game just feels amazing and i would always look forward to play it
This game deserved some love. So much fun.
The hair is actually part of what's selling me on the character. Its nostalgic. He's like a chibi of all the edgy anime characters I used to fangirl over. I just wanna pick him up and scruffle the hair like "aw, who's my little edgy boi?" XD
this looks really awesome.
I really appreciate the attempt to combine genres, not enough games have tried this blend.
But game feel is everything, so I need to try it for myself.
I would also love to see a mix of Smash Bros. and an RPG campaign
love it when nitro rad reccomends me new games
Wow that was really cool
Blue Fire captures something other rpg platformers try to do but often fail to and it's fitting you brought Hollow Knight up in the video because it also did it.
Progression of Power
Initially you start off weak with very basic abilities in both games. However as you explore both maps of both games, you unlock items and abilities that make it easier to traverse them. And if you are clever, you can even use the environments and in game mechanics to expand your area of exploration as you progress. And at the peak of your collection, you are practically a god compared to when you started your adventure, and you achieved this feat through exploration and grit.
I love how I can apply a handful amount of points Nitro made in this review into other metroidvania type platformers like Ori 2 for example.
