Just want to quickly say something about the translation of the banner. The first part should be "(our) power of loyalty and bravery is unrivaled" 無 means no and 双 means duo, combo, that's correct. But when combined 無双 means, "unmatched, no rivalry" as in you can't find a second that is just as good.
And also 剣聖 (kensei) is a master swordsman, not a sword saint. The Chinese characters on the banner are 一死報国 (isshi hōkoku) "to die for one's country" and 忠勇無双 (chūyū musō) "peerless loyalty and bravery".
I cant stand nioh... The ki system, general combat and uninspired level designs hasnt clicked with me. Might try it out again though, since I just finished ds3 and bb.

This game is not going to be a typical soulsborne game. I think its lore is going to be alot more straight-forward this time. I say that because, for the first time our charecter has a face, and a name which means he has a past that we could be able to uncover. We've never had that in a soulsborne game. Thats unless of course they choose to give us no insight at all, or the game ends up being like bloodborne where the latter 3rd reveils a whole side of the story thats so different from the beginning.
Likely we'll actually know what we're doing through the "main quest" but we may not know much about the world or what we fight unless we care to look for lore.
James Buck knowing trust me, knowing the main quest feels like asking for too much from "from software". I remember playing through the entirety of bb, and then seeing queen yharnam almost at the very end of the game, just standing there looking at the sky under a spot light, and having absolutely no idea what to make of her. So there I was about to finish the game, and there's this very horrific figure infront of me looking like I should know who she is at that point in the game. I couldnt come up with an explanation as to who she was or why she was there. 6 playthroughs later, I still dont know her full story.
I'm talking "main quest" in that you know what you're doing, what the character's purpose is. Imagine DS1, but Oscar told you you're supposed to Link The Fire. You know what you're trying to do, what you're fighting for, but beyond that you're on your own.
Mohammed Kortam I like how it’s more straightforward this time. Souls lore is fun to decipher, but the cryptic stuff and plot holes got really annoying.
Greatest animated movie imo. Yutaka nakamura did a damn good job and to think it was released at 2009-ish (correct me if I am wrong) makes it more astonishing. But yeah. The sacrifice of Kotaro for the immortal potion needed for the ming emperor. Kinda ties in with what the leaks had suggested.
Have a really good feeling all the normal human enemies we've seen thus far are only the beginning, and later in the game it goes full supernatural with us fighting various Oni and Undead. For one, FromSoft are legendary monster designers so I doubt they make an entire game without utilizing that talent. And 2, if I'm not mistaken the early Bloodborne trailers had no mention of any of the crazy shit you see in that game so there is a precedent for FromSoft misleading us with relatively tame early footage.
I mean, if you look, you can see an Amygdala in the background at one point in some early Bloodborne trailers, so there was some hints, but I think From likes to keep the full brunt of their insanity hidden.
The game is excellent, game of the year material if you ask me. It did something not many games did lately for me - it kept me interested and invested in it the entire time, from start to finish. Just when you think you're out, they pull you back in with yet another twist. At first I thought the entire game was up to the Genichiro fight, due to the size of the game being roughly 15gb, but man was I glad to be wrong.
samuel van der loo dude, your Ronin fights a giant ass serpent the size of a city block in the trailer, and literally used blood magic resurrection. We are going supernatural all right
Hi, you must be new here! Ever since Vaati said unironically sudoku instead of seppuku in one of his older videos, it is our proud tradition to keep saying sudoku in place of seppuku. We are never going to let him live it down.
Cherry Dragon I was just joking, however I wouldn't mind it being set in the same world. Since ot's set in a different part of the world during a different time the clothing and technology would be different. They could also focus on different Great Ones and change quite a few things to keep the story fresh without retconning it. I don't think this story will be related to Bloodborne, though.
Eh, Mensis was rather poorly informed, and rather evil. While they were better informed than most of Bloodborne's populace, they don't seem to have been trying to defend the world, but instead become better informed, potentially at the cost of the world. And I really doubt that this cult is Mensis, just throwing it out there.
Thesaurus Rex The school of Mensis may not have been an outright cult, but the entire school being sacrificed (?) so that Micolash alone could align his dreams on the same plane as the thoughts of the Old Ones seems pretty cult-ish to me. Besides, a cult doesn't have to be out for the good of the world or even themselves. Mensis was founded on the idea that we as humans could ascend to enlightenment on par with the gods, but over time it was changed bit by bit, for the same purpose, but led by a man who was losing touch with reality more and more as he became "enlightened". And I wasn't outright meaning that this cult in Sekiro is Mensis. I was just drawing parallels.
I don't think that was a "Centipede-fusion-man" like you mentioned at about 6:10 but a giant centipede crawling over a Sokushinbutsu, or the self-mummified remains of a Buddhist monk. There was a sect of Buddhist monks who believed that, by spending years exercising and eating a very specific sparse diet and then eventually sealing themselves in a cave and perishing in the seated pose of the Buddha, they could reach true enlightenment if they successfully had their body mummified. Also, there is a yokai or evil spirit called the Ōmukade, which is a giant centipede of immense size and venomous breath found around Lake Biwa who was supposed to be so big that even the dragons feared him. Edit: Maybe you could do a Collab with Gaijin Goomba. I know your styles are very different but your combined knowledge of Japanese folklore and culture, and From Software's storytelling style could crack this right open.
If I remember my Japanese history, didn't the Taira clan go extinct after the Genpei war with the Minamoto? The legend is that the matriarch of the clan and the boy-emperor committed suicide by drowning rather than be taken by the enemy. Maybe the boy survived and he's the emperor by right? Don't know if the timelines make sense in that scenario. Also, surely this has been discussed already, but the name "Sekiro" is written as 隻狼. The first character meaning "one of a pair" like 隻眼 "One-eyed", or 隻腕 "one-armed". The second character means "wolf". Obviously our protagonist (and several other significant figures, it seems) is one-armed, but the suggestion that he's perhaps "one of a pair of wolves" is interesting. I suppose the prince would be the other "wolf".
I have to say my friend I have been watching your videos for sometime now and they always are very well constructed, and give me joy seeing the passion you put in them. If it weren't for your channel I wouldn't know half the things I do about soul games or the games similar to them. Thank you spending your time for us viewers! I wish you well friend.
In the French version of the trailer. The old man says "Your master is still alive, but his blood will soon flow" which pretty much indicates that the use of his "blood" is more physical and litteral rather than metaphorical.
I heard in a video yesterday that it has something to do with the Prince's blood. His blood gives you the ability to resurrect they said, and every time you do it may weaken him or something like that. Which would be a very very interesting mechanic.
Making use of the Prince's bloodline, eh? I wonder what they hope to achieve through that? I wouldn't be disappointed if it turned out that he was actually the child of a Great One, and that this somewhat historical world still shares parallels with the Painted World of Bloodborne.
Actually, because no one knows where Guts was born or where he came from from he CAN be Japanese. There is no definitive proof on what he actually is. SO no one is wrong.
3.14 Dragon There will always be theories, and there will always be arguments countering those theories, and never any definitive proof for either side. It will always depend on what you choose to believe.
to be honest, while there are still plenty of call outs to dark souls, this game will be fundamentally different being able to use a grappling hook. If it's done right, it might be entirely an original in it's genre of action/adventure. There've been plenty of grappling hook games, but none with the crazy level designs that Miyazaki and his team come up with. Imagine the painted world, but you can snake everywhere with just a grappling hook.
The reverse would be interesting too: the sacrifice was already planned & accepted, but, by kidnapping the prince and thereby stopping it, the Commander has the entire fate of the world as his leverage.
My interpretation of the "he'll soon make use of his bloodline" line was a mix of your ordinary and extraordinary reasons. The Japanese website made it clear that The Prince was the prince of a clan that predated the Ashina: my guess is that this clan was of supernatural origin, or that it was straight-up a clan of oni (monsters / demon spirits). My guess is that by controlling The Prince, and using the threat of ritually sacrificing him, the Commander of Ashina hopes to force the spirits / oni to fight for him. This would explain how the supernatural elements of the game tie in with the more historical Japanese setting. It also has some precedent, as other famous Japanese content, such as Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, also portray the spirits and supernatural beings of ancient Japan as following tribes and clans, not unlike the samurai and daimyo of the time.
It's kinda weird how this game looks really good visualy in the gameplay segment but the faces of the characters ( especially the prince and his hairs) look so bad
It's because From always prioritizes actual gameplay over cutscenes. Not like most developers nowadays that rely on elongated cutscenes to carry over 80% of their games.
Why do we not talk about how the scene of the Shinobi getting his arm cut off looks so much like the fight scene of Gehrman? The, white(ish) plants, the moon, the environment, the contrasting colors are the same, even the way the weapons are moved is similar to Gehrman's scene.
you, know, I'v never understood the point of posting single frame "secret messages" into videos. They are super easy to see if you just pause and press < or > to go frame by frame.
When your ability to find lore is so strong you can piece together the basic story before the game is out.

Your videos are very insightful, keep up the good work!
Stoked that this isn’t 8 min of looped footage of the fan/shield extending like before.
That MS Paint job is a masterpiece. Just look at all that detail in the eyebrows and beard.
The reverse would be interesting too: the sacrifice was already planned & accepted, but, by kidnapping the prince and thereby stopping it, the Commander has the entire fate of the world as his leverage.
Ah we’re so early not a lot of ppl yet ain’t that right vaati?
Asian berserk
No this is Patrick
Whats so Berserk about it?
Lame duplicate comment.
Andrew Heard And the “Sleep tight, Shinobi” ones aren’t?

you, know, I'v never understood the point of posting single frame "secret messages" into videos. They are super easy to see if you just pause and press < or > to go frame by frame.
Shinobo tight, Sleep
incredible analysis and breakdown even though this video was uploaded prior to the game release
masterclass, mate

You and everyone else apparently. People must be blind. I mean yeah, his hair looks a little long etc. but he's a kid, he looks male to me.

Star Wars: Shadows Die Twice.

Sounds great! I’m really looking forward to playing this.
It seems that the souls games will always have traps because I thought that that kid was a girl!
That goes for Japanese kids in general, imo, especially if they wear a hakama or some other Feudal Japan clothing.
Explains trap hentai
