The "should" reframing really helped me, dude. My therapist suggested to think of "should" or "need to" as "would benefit me to..." and if that doesn't still feel applicable, then it's not a good should, and if it is applicable, it feels better.
This was probably the most relatable episode for me, especially towards the end with Daniel and Devon. Thanks for being brave enough to be honest about your humanity 💜

This is such an interesting topic to me because this is something that I have never experienced, observed a lot of it but never experienced myself. My Mom very suddenly died just about 20 years ago, when I was 16. My Dad was an alcoholic (he passed a year and a half ago) so he was never really there much growing up. When my Mom died and I saw that my Dad didn't care about my report card or where I was, who I was with, etc; I had a realization that the quality of my life was going to be whatever I made it. I was on my own and no one was going to help/guide me. That's when I put my ass in gear and really started trying in school and life. I guess my only self imposed expectation was to not end up like my Dad. And I didn't.

My family is still really bad about putting expectations on me and being passive aggressive about how they wish I’d be. I wish they’d understand already that makes me trust them less and doesn’t help anything. Some people may be good at using shame as a motivator but it doesn’t for me. I’ve always needed encouragement and support
They’re still doing the rewatch but they are mixing in life topics and general conversation that you would see from a trash Tuesday or something. I think it works but other people may not feel the same way. Remember once the rewatch ends the podcast isn’t over
I can totally relate to what Devin is saying around the 23 minute mark living out here in Texas wasn't my plan but my aunt sold the thought of my head that there's a lot of job opportunities out here and there is I moved out here when I was 26 I'll be 29 in November but I can't ask for help without judgment for my family that's just my dad's side my mom said she's willing to help my boss and a couple of co-workers they even willing to help me make it thru out here living paycheck to paycheck you can't get ahead
I've had friends who've moved a lot growing up, whether during or after school. People move away growing up. After high school and college, some of my best friends have moved. Most of them graduated college
That frog thing isn't ONLY a metaphor! There were scientific studies where they DID that actual thing! It's a metaphor that came from actual scientific tests and truth.
I struggle with being in my early 30's, both my boyfriend and I have both families expecting us to be at a specific place. We've been together for 7 years, and each year it's more pressure to get married and have kids. More aggressive each year. Also, I strongly struggle with my boyfriends mom being a Beverly Goldberg, strong emeshment with my boyfriend. Slowly, I've been helping him get out of that with his mom and it's stressful. She uses him as a fill-in partner, she raised him as a single mom. But he's my partner not hers, it's a struggle for him to step out of that.
It might not be practical for everyone but owning is definitely financially smarter than renting. I don't know what kind of study would tell you otherwise. Ofcourse you don't want to buy when interests rates are the highest but if you do you can always refinance when they go down.
Definitely depends on financial situation. In many states, esp California, you’ll go in deep debt unless you’re making approx $130,000+ a year. That’s for a house in a decently safe neighborhood. Owning a home is extremely expensive. Esp if kids are also part of the equation. Extremely more expensive than renting. Requires you make the $130,000+ and revolve your life around paying the house. Puts a strict limit on spending on hobbies/vacations/etc. Big lifestyle sacrifices required.
@@b4Sed1593 I have to disagree. I could not afford to rent now where i bought my home 5 years ago if we're talking monthly expenses. And the smartest thing is that you have that equity. You can borrow against it if things get difficult and you need cash. And you own it after 30 years (given you don't refinance if you need to). After 30 years of paying rent, you don't have anything to show for it and will need to continue to do it the rest of your life.

I love this podcast! It’s half rewatch pod half life pod. Similar to what Lindsey is doing with Tammin on PLL true crime. Don’t let anyone tell you that this format doesn’t work or that they want more episode recaps or guests. Keep the format exactly the way it is. You guys have good instincts for when to talk about life and when to recap episodes or interview guests. I wish PLL true crime was more like this but unfortunately the fanbase bullied L&T into being rigid with their pod and keeping it almost exclusively episode rewatches. I feel bad for Lindsey and Tammin because it seems like no matter how much good they do on that podcast, they can never please everyone
