The parking lot scene was spot on. I actually started getting those feelings we all have experienced. Funny, I also told my husband about this - he was kind, but did not understand either. Anna did such an excellent job in capturing what we women experience all the time. I was a teenager in the 70's and this brought back so many memories. I confessed to my husband that I still turn my head away from a car that might come up beside me, especially at night, so the driver won't see my face.
I love that Anna donated the money she was going to make to Charities. Not wanting to cash in on a story about a Serial killer who hurt so many women says so much about her as a person.
The true hero of this story is the runaway girl who conned him into not only surviving her ordeal but ultimately his capture and incarceration. The fact that she came back and testified at his parole hearing to keep him behind bars makes her even more of a GOAT.
Woman of the hour had me on EDGE. I was literally gasping, Anna did an amazing job with her director debut and truly showing what it’s like to be a woman trying to succeed and be safe in life
Not so fun fact. I intersected with Rodney Alcala when I was 14 years old. I was cutting through a church parking lot on my way to my friends house and he stopped me asking to take my picture. He wanted me to keep posing and I felt very unsafe and ran into a busy street. I never forgot his face because it was so unique. Years later I heard a podcast on true crime that sounded a lot like my experience. I was able to go online and look him up and there was the face of the man that took my picture. I was extremely fortunate to escape him but every time I hear about him it takes me back.
Not sure if you know this already but they’ve released a lot of his photos, most of the subjects haven’t been identified. You could look though them and see if your photo is there, if you’re comfortable with that (I would understand if it’s too much) I’m not exactly sure who you would contact if your photo is there though. Thanks for sharing your story and I’m glad you’re still here today.
Great interview, I appreciate the fact that Anna was willing to open up about the trauma and abuse she experienced. It makes normal people feel like we aren't isolated to this type of behavior from a loved one.
Omg, when you said about going for a walk, I can relate! I was just on my morning walk and a white pickup slowed down, and pulled over ahead about a half block. I was so aware and already plotting my escape plan. As I passed it, the man had pulled over to text, ok, glad he was being safe. But I kept an eye on that truck as it drove off, and didn’t keep it out of my mind until about 5 blocks later 😢. It’s our everyday life, walks, parking areas, elevators, at home alone, I’m always aware.
Omg, a Crime Junkie Anna Kendrick AND Try Guys cross over? I’m either chronically online or the stars aligned 😂 It just made my day to know that Anna Kendrick knows about the Try Guys now. I’ve been a fan since they were back at Buzzfeed! 😂 Loved this interview and I’ll run to watch the movie after work (:
I watched woman of the hour yesterday, it was absolutely fantastic!! Seriously one of the best movies of the year. Such an important story for women to hear. Stay safe out there ladies!
I can so relate to what she said about traumatic and shocking things happening and then those "How did I not see?" thoughts. Its been years for me now and I still get those thoughts sometimes. That is what got me into true crime stories and the wish to understand why would people chose to do these things and why do they happen. Crime Junkie is my first podcast ever and I am so happy to have found it, because there is so much I have learned. So much so that the lessons I learned through my own experience and the storries of others AND the CJ rules helped me help prevent a few bad situation happening in the life of some of my closest people. Because in that moment when it happens, its not just black and white for you and you need that voice of reason telling you: "No. Just NO! This is bad for you!"
Such a great interview. Cannot say how much I appreciate discussion about things like this. And such a good film as well. Cannot believe it was her directorial debut!! The movie was so well done in every way, particularly considering the sensitivity of the subject matter. The filmography felt sophisticated and beautiful, and the story felt centered in all the right ways.
I really enjoyed this interview... and I immediately went and watched "Woman of the Hour." It was REALLY good. I didn't know much about Rodney's story, so after watching the movie I went down a rabbit hole online. Thank you both so much! And Ashley, I am also a person who doesn't watch movies/TV shoes more than once. I also rarely read a book more than once. I don't enjoy knowing the ending of things. So you are not alone!
This is awesome! I really liked this movie and Anna did wonderful showing her fear toward this horrific murderer who was played very well by cutie Daniel Zovatto!
My husband didn’t quite get the parking lot scene but he understood the psychology behind the girl at the ending. We’ve got daughters, I made him sit and watch it with me. He was happy to do so but he never would’ve chosen it himself.
I’m a1st time viewer to ur RUclips channel and LOVED EVERY SINGLE SECOND & Who You Interviewed! THANKYOU for a GREAT SHOW!! Listen To Your Podcast’s nearly e very night & Enjoy Them All!! P.S. So I Now ubscribed to this channel Too!🤩🤩
Anna Kendrick what a difference respecting women and the emotion of the material then Blake lively with advertising her hair products and not getting the nature of abuse in her movie and making it like a tea party! Amazing job on that movie girl of the hour! Go see it it’s a thrill ride of very realistic fear to this day
She also made a cocktail bar for the premiere from her drink brand. It was called "It ends with buzz" and she named one cocktail after the abuser... Then she opened a bar with flowers and those cocktails. I lost it when I heard this little detail. I mean hair care is not the best idea but alcohol? How many abuser is under the influence when they hurt their partners or family? But I have so much respect for Anna Kendrick for her honesty and advocacy. I hope she never stops directing and acting.
My daughters and I have watched all the Pitch Perfect movies no less than a dozen times each, cant believe Ashley and Rebel dont watch things more than once lol
Great podcast. Watching the NetFlix movie this weekend!! Chris and his girlfriend are both evil! Just get divorced! You would still have your beautiful daughters!
Quit acting so silly both of you and giggling away! Act like professionals , and talk seriously about this topic. This is why people don't take women seriously.

I still duck behind my own car in front of my own house when I see unfamiliar cars driving closer, even in the dark 🫠

Oh wow, I am so glad you were able to escape that safely 💜

This film was fantastic. Anna needs to direct and write more films.

Good movie, and yes, the parking scene was tense!
Gilmore girls & the office for me.
The movie was stunning in so many ways
If my hair allowed me to wear a hat without getting hat-hair I’d take it off to Anna Kendrick. The movie is very well made. 👒
What how did you get Anna Kendrick? I love her!!
Interviewer: Chloe Moretz
does this movie still qualify for the next oscars?
Oh come on. Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill are super re-watchable at least once every 2 years. 😁
I tried to watch this but Ashley the NON stop giggling and you kept cutting Anna off. I only saw half, were you just nervous??

Good interview, but too much giggling from the interviewer. Actually got annoying I left half way thru.
