I agree, the S is probably the one to get. I have the 1st gen X100 and it's so slow it's distracting from photography (constantly missing good photos because the AF either misses or takes too long). I had the X100S and don't remember having such problems.

I bought the X100s in 2013 and mine is one of the early models having the serial number 272. It was not easily available in the UK at the time so I imported mine from Hong Kong. Despite having a room full of pro gear the Fuji X100s is still my go to camera for personal work. It has travelled with me across Europe and the USA many times and has never produced a poor image. A photograph taken with the X100s won me the title of photographer of the year in a competition run by a regional newspaper here in the UK back in 2014. It was the camera I grabbed to record the first pictures of my new grandson a few weeks ago. If I had a complaint it would be the battery meter does not show the battery discharging it gos from 100% to zero without notice so I have learned to carry a spare battery.

    Two notes,
    1. As always I get tons of comments about price from people either looking locally in an expensive market. Or doing the lazy search on eBay to see crazy ASKING prices from scalpers who take a shot in the dark (not expecting to sell). As I have said before, a good deal doesn't sit and wait for you. You need to have a couple of trusted sources and check regularly. Ive seen several well bellow 400 both in stores with warranty and eBay in the last couple of months.
    2. I forgot to mention another plus with these older versions with older processors. The battery life is really good 👍

    • @beckmp4
      @beckmp4 7 месяцев назад

Hi Mattias, thank you so much for your encouragement with all of the time and effort that you put into reading and reply to your comments on top of all of the other work that you do. If I may (😅), I can't speak for others, but for myself I don't believe that I'm being lazy. I understand that the deals aren't waiting for you and that you have to do the work of a hunter, but I feel that I lack those trusted sources and other knowledge and skill needed to find those low prices. I've watched some videos in the past that give advice on how to make better searches, but I didn't have much success putting into practice what I learned from those particular people. How did you get so good at finding great bargains? I would love to learn and improve and I'm sure that others would also greatly appreciate your teaching with whatever you're willing to impart if you would further elaborate on your points. If you've already done this mentioning a direct reference with a link to it in this video and-or in the description might be helpful. Thank you for your patience and understanding and, as always, for your excellent videos and beautiful photography.

I purchased my x100s in 2023. It turned out to be my gateway-drug into the Fuji system. Love the camera. Yes, too large, too slow, but it makes you want to take it with you, it makes you look ate the world as photos, makes you shoot and experiment. Also, love the nd filter (I have it under the fn button, perfect).

X100VI is on my wishlit once it will be available. I mean the bump in resolution is nice but the addition of IBIS makes it the real perfect package to travel, because now you can shoot handheld in every situation and the biggest point is for video, you get high quality video with film simulation and ND which is crazy.
No need to color grade, no need to bring ND filters, you can just shoot your film simulation like eterna in 4k or 6k with stabilization.

Prices for the X100 series in Australia are quite high. A photographer I met bought the original for around $250 AUD, and then when the X100V shortages started prices for the original X100 went up to around $1000 AUD.
I considered going for the X100V when it came out but couldn't justify it as I have the X100F, which in my opinion is still an amazing camera today.

I own and purchased my X100S in 2014! this camera is with me everywhere I go. Last year, 2023, I decided to send it to Fuji here in the USA, to their repair and maintenance center in New-Jersey. I have scratched the display by carrying it together with a small tripod. The display still works as it should, but I wanted to fix it. After calling Fuji and being told to send it, it was returned to me in the same state, with the laconic message: too old, no spares...
This is why I would not purchase another Fuji camera again. If I replace my X100S, it will be with a Leica Q3.

It recently suffered a tiny fall where it the corner of the camera hit concrete and the shutter failed. Shockingly, I’ve dropped it in FAR worse ways over the years. That last SD card had one of the best photos I’ve ever taken on it. Alas, my X100s is retired to the shelf now. That signature is worth too much to me to risk having it repaired.

All the hype over the X100VI tempted me for a while, especially given the (promised) better availability of the new model over the V. However, after some thorough consideration and reflection on my actual use of the camera over the past decade since acquiring it, I will just hang on to my X100S. It has some surface scratches and nicks (mostly from the previous owner - I bought it in around 2014) and the diopter wheel fell inside the housing, but I've always loved the image quality I get from the sensor and lens combination. This video was a nice reminder of what a nice little camera this remains.

Hey! Good to see a video from you! My favorite iteration of the X100 series is the T. Same great X-Trans II sensor that the S has, but the dial and button layout on the back of the camera is refined and completely takes care of all the "little" complaints I had about my S. But I'm not up to date on what all the generations are selling for, so I guess it all comes down to what one is willing to pay for the "little" things. P.S. Hope the family is doing well!

Photographically speaking I often wonder what it is that people are doing that they need the latest and greatest. I use two cameras with 10+ year-old tech as my primary cameras and they produce outstanding image quality. I don't have any real reason to buy something newer from a technical POV.

"Old" tech is amazing now. There's so much outrageously good used stuff: Canon EF 24-105L, EF 135/2 L, 35/1.4 L. Nikon D850. The cutting edge is stunning, too. I sold the store to get an Iphone 15 Pro and am getting insanely sweet video shooting 4K/60 with Apple ProRes Log. Of course, a 4-minute song is 37.4 GB, but I find it's worth it. But I babble...

The perfect combination for me xpro2 and 35mm 1.4 for some times

X100v was my first 100, and it constantly delivers. Having access to nd filter and flash makes it a fantastic jack of all trades. The camera is very silent and stealhy and really opposite to my GFX100s which has a completely different use case. Will try out the digital zoom, feel the need for 50 mm when at small concerts for example. Will I replace my 100v with a VI…no, let the tiktok generation buy it and play with it.

I got my 100s in 2019 for 300 Euros with low shutter caunt. The only thing that isnt good for me is the slow AF. Nowadays they want crazy prizes for such an old camera. I' ve I had more time for photography I would think about to spend the money in an newer version. But for taking only a few pictures in the moment I better safe my money. My only complain is that it's very difficult taking pictures of my 1 year old son with that slow camera. 😅 May I change my mind soon and go for the 100V or even the Vi as long as they are available 😅

Inflation has made pretty much all Fuji camera's ridiculously overpriced....to the point that camera's like this are often priced above even release MSRP. Even older ones like the XT-2 have shot up in price. You used to be able to get an XT-2 for nearly $300. Now you will mostly find it for ~$600. And you don't even want to know what they're trying to sell an XPRO2 for. To put it further into perspective, even the X100F, a camera that released for $500, is often listed at well above double its launch price. It's insanity, especially because these cameras get older and older by the day, which should depreciate their value. Their value is depreciated, it's just that sellers are greedy and don't want to accept it. No one is actually paying these prices, so they end up in a spiral where people don't pay the prices so the camera sits and gets older, and the older it gets the higher the price they keep asking, because "inflation". They don't want to come back down to reality, so these cameras will just sit collecting dust, and everyone loses in the end. The greedy sellers lose. The prospective buyers lose. Photography as a whole, loses.

I'm still using my X100T and you'll have to tear it out of my cold, dead hands. I took it with me on a bikepacking trip through the Caucasus mountains where it survived 43° days and -5° nights. If it dies, I'll just buy the same one again. I think it offers slightly better bang for your buck than the X100S. Then again, I got a pretty good deal on mine. I bought it used 5 years ago for 450€.

  • @premyslvavrousek

I use the X-S10 as my main camera, but I've always found the rangefinder style beautiful. The X100 series is beautiful, but I find the fixed lens limiting and I would miss the option to change it. So it is a fact that 23mm (35mm) is a super universal focus, but sometimes a longer or wider glass is useful. So I bought a used X-E1 and found it to be an excellent camera. I've started taking it with me a lot more than my X-S10 for casual photography. After a year I bought a used X-E2 and I would say that the E2 or E3 is the ideal camera if you want an X100 with many lenses. From the E2 model you have eye focus available, better AF overall, classic chrome simulation. You can pair it with many AF and manual lenses and achieve a similar size as the X100. Great choice.

New one is about €1700 more than a used x100s in stores and online here. The x100v has been in stock the whole time during the hype so used its about €700 less than the X100VI. So for me the new one is a tough cookie to justify.

And I got the 1 year warranty from the retailer which, previously saved me several hundred quid when my XPro1 conked out within the warranty period.
