Homemade Electric Drift Trike - Part 1

- In this video I will be demonstrating how I built the frame for my homemade DIY electric drift trike! I have decided that I am going to make this build into a series because this project is a lot of work and its not something that I can quickly put together for you guys. Also, I apologize for this video being long overdue. A package containing a lot of these parts got lost during shipment and it ended up taking 6 weeks to get to me. So thank you guys for being patient!

The whole point of a drift trike is the rear wheels turn not the front, this is like drifting a fwd car... still cool as a normal trike though
Yes, you are right. It should be a lot of fun though! I am using a live axle so that I can experiment with other motors on the back in the future.
I've built both and the front wheel drive gives you more control of the drift and gets up to speed much faster. I would suggest a rear brake though. I mounted bicycle disc brakes to the hubs and used hub extensions to set the wheels farther out.
Jon Rothenbusch thats sliding not drifting
austiwawa yeah should be fun either way!
yes the front motor is better!!! but really better. ans electric too. the bigs drift trikes like in usa, are poor idéa, to put all the masses on the rear, and the rear weel are the weels motorized with a 4 stroke engine, is a poor idéa... (ok in usa 1/3 of the population are so big, is possible is the problem lol) and after he put a big front weel because the masses is on the back.. (rrr!!!)
Can I suggest flipping those pillowblocks over on the rear axle. This will lower your center of gravity. It will be less prone to flipping. Right now it's way too high IMO unless your going for an off road drift trike.
Thanks for your input!
Awesome work, dude! It's looking great already! 😀
You could consider installing a couple computer fans in the control/battery box for ventilation and maybe some LEDs
Great build series!
i think that single weld at the middle will break very soon, you should have left the upper part of the frame and weld it as well.
It would be nice to see the end result and what it can do before building the thing.
Thank you for taking my recommendation!!
On the rear axle, are those individual wheels able to turn on their own? Or are they fixed with one another.
You are a mad men, and i like this😂👍
Gotta test out that ride one of these days
I love your creavity man!!!!
Thanks so much man!
After watching your video Converting a Car Alternator into a Go Kart Motor I decided to make a motor out of an alternator which I am doing. I have some questions about the build though. I will be using it as a motor for other uses. I want to fix an on/off switch, a kill switch, and an external regulator so I can adjust the speed. First have been successful in that project when not "redlining" the alternator rpm speeds?
Front wheel drive on a drift trike?
stylac Ya this configuration seem to be common. This is avavilbe in a commercially available drift trike. ruclips.net/video/_IJwjctqVEE/видео.html
Jon Vannatto, technically that makes it a "slide trike" as drifting is defined by a rear drive and using wheel speed to break traction and control the drift angle. Either way its neat and looks fun, but being front driven it'll pull you through and kind of defeats the skill associated with real drifting.
Evil Me Good point. I'm suprised with the rotating rear axle layout he has as it seems like he could just pull parts from the electric gocart and make it a proper drift trike.
Yes, but I am using a live axle so I can experiment with other motors in the future.
austiwawa, an all wheel drive drift trike with independent front and rear throttling would be massively epic!
okay Ali A, I see you
That rim brakes is going to be interesting. Too bad the motor and fork do not have disc brake mounts. And a not sure a rear brake would work with PVC sleeves on.
I'm hoping it will work out fine. I was thinking the same thing. We will see!
Nice work. Love your ideas
Wild Wacky Action Bike!
Bonjour de France, merci pour ce partage. Quelle est le moteur, controleur et batterie que vous utilisez? Quelle est la taille de la couronne et le pignon poteur? Merci
Awesome! Do you think that weld is going to be enough to hold all of your weight? Kind of a scary place for a weld to fail
Francis Point Of View yeah that's a bad place to put a small weld
I hope so! I may reinforce it
Hello from Moskow. Nice... I watch Your videaos about electr-cars and get a bif plwasure...I are real fan...Amd I like watch how you work in programs and work with instruments...reallycool
Thank you!
I built one of these about 3 and half years ago. The front drive works fine and is an easy way to get a fast trike up and running. All the guys complaining that it isn't a "real" drift trike are obviously forgetting that these things started as pedal-powered and front wheel drive. All the RWD ones end up doing is spinning in circles which seems pretty boring to me. Definitely recommend rear brakes as the front one on its own was definitely not enough for mine (although it's obviously not much use when you're running the pvc).
Daniel Mckenzie drift trike
4:55 Im very surprised to see that the spokes isnt in a V arrangement, not good.
Sick vid!
Pure Genius!
Is this setup a freewheel or shaft stops when motor stops?
very nice job
Where did u get pegs that thread onto those 14mm ebike axles? Tia
was hoping you would go rear wheel drive!
I will definitely try putting a motor on the back in the future!
If you did go rear wheel drive, how many watts do you think the motor would have to be?
I was thinking he would do an alternator rear motor like on the go kart
@@kweilandc6 less than in the front, since u have low grip...
When you join aluminum and steel together, the aluminum will be preferentially corroded. This is called galvanic corrosion.
Looks great but that single weld at the bottom on a sole join holding it all together just looks risky. Reinforce it!
is this not just a poweslide trike...? drifing involves the rearwheel drive
Do you make these for people?
yessssss finally
How will you turn if your foot is on the fork? A little dangerous with that motor.
you should close he whole thing black even the PVC on the tires
Do you have the blueprints for it
@austiwawa Do you have a free Version of Fusion 360, or do you have to pay for it?
Dude, I got a question, how you mounted those wheels on the axle?
Wheel hubs. I put a link to them in the video description
Can you put a link for the back wheels?
what happened to the starter motor idea?
I want to experiment with a starter motor in the future!
there a 1500w 16inch motor anywhere? most powerful i can find is 1000w
how much will it cost me to build my own golf cart
You practically made a go kart axle having it front wheel drive will wreck it a drift is when your back tire is spinning to fast for the amount of traction you have so your rear end slides out
I would want to add some back wherel power if possible
Dónde puedo conseguirlo
what size are the back tires?
Thats pretty cool! I just finished modifying a Zero DS bike (that I originally bought for the parts) and am converting a stretched Ruckus to EV with 18650 Lipos as well. Anywho, I stumbled upon a way to get unused/like new, top quality, brand name 18650 LiPo LiFe LiMN etc. for a penny on the dollar! I'm sure its legal but they might have not been following their official channels so shoot me an email ( LeviMail @ the largest email provider ever. lol) and I'd be glad to help you find the same kinda place in what ever city your in! I have TUBS FULL of brand new name brand Lithium cells/packs and I only took the ones that were never touched and were still fully charged. lol. for $100 I ended up with thousands of 18650 cells.
Nice work! I recommend getting an engineering degree, you'll love it
Thank you! I actually work at an engineering firm!
is there a size? and the drawing?
The design looks very similar to Colinfurze's design and the way he made it
Will u make a lithium ion battery pack ?
Yes!
Why is it FWD?
*guys drift bikes are front wheele drive* drift carts are not...
Whered you get the pvc
See description!

Where did all your past content go????????? Even if there are videos of started projects that never went anywhere you should keep them available for ppl to watch them. Makes it look like you are just starting out your channel or that you don't take it very seriously. And people won't come back or subscribe if they think you're only putting out a couple videos a year.
I wanna make it simple... Starts using cad software
This is not a drift trike. It's a trike.
use impact sockets duh
We need pedals for legality reasons
Time drive
All in 6 poxy minutes ffs

you have coppied from colinfurze
