    The only two good things those changes are that V1 will be supported longer and that people who recently bought V1 will get V2.0 for free. Everything else is the same. It's more of a try to fool people a little. Cause if you don't look closely, you think that this is a better version for the upgrade. Which it is not. I don't like those smoke and mirror moves. For me personally there is a little "plus" about the upgrade option. While the features of V2.0 don't add anything ground-breaking, for the price of $20 I will get auto-save in the background. So no more painting interruption every 5 minutes. Although I think this should have been added a long time ago and part of V1. As it is now, it's painful to use.

      I disagree with your view on the smoke and mirror parts or them trying to fool people. I already stated my feelings and opinions on the whole payment model change in my previous video on the topic, and even if I'm the minority, I'm one of those creators who don't mind paying for software if it's essential for my work. CSP definitely is for me and the amount of investment it needs from me is won back multiple times with my work, so if upgrades and new features going forward need payment, I won't complain. We literally received our money's worth with almost a decade of free updates with a one-time purchase, I think it's entitled of people to expect the provider to keep this up indefinitely, especially with the current global recession we're witnessing, I think it was to be expected that services and software prices will go up and things will change going forward. It's still a great value for a minor price, and hands down a better option than what Adobe for example has to offer. I might not be interested in all of the upgrades they'll offer with the new version, but we're really just skimming the surface here with what's to come. This company proved over the years that they're one of the fastest growing and improving this software for creatives and artists, especially comic and webcomic artists, and I'll happily support this growth with that small amount they charge for the upgrade pass or the version update.

      They are no longer doing a subscription model for the desktop version of 2 & 3, which was the biggest point of contention. I think that's pretty big. The pay model is just like it was back in the days of Manga Studio, where I paid $299 for ver3 (my first time using the program), and then when ver4 came out I paid a discounted upgrade price. Same for ver5. I think that's a good compromise.
      EDIT: if you don't think the new features in 2.0 are that great, then don't upgrade. We now know support for 1.x will last at least through v3 release in 2024, which is plenty of time to see if anything worthwhile pops up in v2 or move on to a new drawing program.

    • @andreas_resch
      @andreas_resch Год назад +12

      @@saigamiproject For what it's worth, I also don't mind to pay for a product. That's not the issue. The problem is the ridiculous system of payment/update that they use and the weasly wording that they use in their plans. Did you realise how they specifically talk about "V 2.0" instead of V2. x? All those update prices only apply to one single feature update which could as well have been an update for V1. They just labeled it V2. 0 from then on. Also the use of the term "permanent license" in connection with V2.0 is a bit ambiguous. It merely means that you can use V2.0 forever. In V1 that term included updates. They also changed the word "updates" for V2.x into "early access" for V3. Just to make it sound like more of a gift than something that's usually included when you buy a software. Last but not least. The fact that you fall back to V2.0 as soon as you stop buying update passes, gives them the ability to hold you hostage by waiting with strong features until after the release of V2.0. And looking at the rather weak updates in V2.0, this might very well be the case. I expect V2.1 or V2.2 to have some very strong features.

    • @andreas_resch
      @andreas_resch Год назад +14

      @@EchoJ There still is a subscription model as well. And the update pass is a subscription model in disguise. Your story about the Manga Studio updates is the way it should be. I would be fine with that. But it's not like that at all.
      And I will pay the $20 for V2.0. I will get auto-save in the background for that. But that's all I basically with my update price. You see the difference to your Manga Studio times? If I want more, I will have to start buying upgrade passes on top of my "upgrade".

      Totally agree with you…. Still you won’t have updates after 2.1, they will give 6 months of the update pass for “perpetual”… but when this 6 months are done you will go back to 2.0 or you pay for the other months witha an update pass…. Maybe and only maybe I will get 3.0… but I need to see cause probably they will do the same thing, you will wait for the version after to get the one before, cause 3.0 will be basically 2.x complete with some features from 3 (2.0 is 1.x with some features basically)… I lifted my eyebrow when I saw the monthly payment for mobile… I read all the stuff before I could say they heard us… nope, they just made a little makeup… and I don’t want to pay monthly cause the app helped me, I want to buy the perpetual and have all the package, if they want to do massive new features and stuff release a new one…. This version 2 for me, is a v1 features they where going to release, but decided to do a v2, and the real v2 they said to release as v3 (version 3 will be release 1 year after 2, with new UI, for me this is very sketchy)…. And remember what I say now…. Probably people who have clip studio 1, and don’t buy the 2 update,won’t be able to update to 3, they probably will force people to need the clip number 2 so they can only upgrade to 3 this way…. Hope I am wrong.

    While yes this is an improvement and prices are affordable they are still missing the mark. No one WANTS to pay for a subscription. Its why artist moved from PS to clip. Having to pay for updates of my perpetual license feels predatory. Right now I may not need them but with how quickly the newer versions of windows coming out as well has windows 10 being phased out I will be forced to need the updates. That's what is so disappointing. Its no longer a choice.

I bought the ex with one purches because of this exact reason. These updates are still concerning, even if getting the free 2.0 sounds nice. I dont want people to stop with the anger because they have a little bit of bone in there spine and wont fuck up people who bought the program in the 1 year time limit and wont leave the 1.0 versions to die. Continuing with a subscription model is not really listening. They release so little information that they just reduced a price that we didn’t know at first. I don’t believe for a second that they’ll keep it cheap. Once they have their subscribers, they won’t give a crap about others. A decent compromise would be if we could get access to all new versions after our first purchase. New features however require a small payment. In general I am entirely against the idea of renting my software.

    Sorry to say this, but your vid didn't convince me enough, Paint tool sai is made by one person (it was popular back in the day)
    & if you already bought the Sai 1 ver license, you can get Ver 2 for free (use same license) no further payment requirement, plus it's super cheap even to this day
    Sure it's hard to compare the two since Sai is basically a lite program, But at this point, Cel$syS has no excuse to overcharge us
    Cel$y$ & Adobe needs to take Note, knowing the fact that i will lose my new features once my Monthly plan or pass update runs out, just makes it all the reason to avoid them

      I didn't make this video to convince anyone to switch over to CSP. If you prefer Sai or any other software, then you should stick with that. My primary goal here is to help people who are confused over the misinformation and the boycott attempts.
      I know many people like Sai, and it's great for illustrations, I used it for several of my early digital artworks. However, despite it perks, for me, it could never replace CSP's comic creation features. No other software, really. Medibang comes closest, but even that isn't completely there, so to me personally, CSP is the software to stick with.

    Sorry but this is not a win for any artist, they didn't appoint and solve the main problem, let's say you buy V2 but this is the problem, you pay your subscription to get the updates and then they launch V3 and at that point is not clear if the sub for V2 will still available if not then you lose all the updates and go back to VANILLA V2 and lose a year of sub payment what means you will go again and be force to buy V3 and get the sub again, summary you are paying around US$200 for use the software for a year without really owning the software because you will send back to vanilla version and will just have some time until they discontinue the software and sorry but CSP doesn't offers anything special in cooperation con KITA 5.1 that is TOTALLY FREE actually Krita is superior from many perspective, Krita is reknow as the best software to emulate traditional artwork, has also the BEST brush engine in the market right now and have ALL the features of CSP except by 3d model enhancement, and yes Krita has also the auto colorize function and doesn't requires to be online and just for context Krita has this function since 2014 and is not CSP become a shaless COPYCAT of Krita, Krita also have compatibility with Photoshop brushes and assets, and no "doesn't have any sense import INFERIOR CSP brushes to Krita", just let me mention one of MANY features of Krita that CSP doesn't have the "Radial Menu" (pie menu) with right click you access the radial menu with the color picker and the more used tools available right where is your mouse cursor saving you the time to go all over the screen to pick a tool or use your keyboard is simply like you have a incorporated a Xpress keyboard in just one button of you stylus and this tools as all tools and the UI in Krita are FULL customizable and has more features than CSP and yes also can work with vector but are called "shape layers" when you dig a little in brush creation in Krita you realize how limited is CSP in terms of brushes, then honestly I will pay without complain if CSP was the best tool available but they are asking me to pay for an inferior tool and in such scenario I prefer to go back to Photoshop, just look how took 10 years to CAP to give us liquify and we still do not have RGB channels but I gave up on that because maybe will be included in CSP version 50 😔

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад

      Have fun with Krita then. It seems like your mind is pretty set on it, and guess what? No one is forcing you to buy CSP or keep using it. I know I will stick to it, because to my work it's the right software and not Krita.
      People will still be able to use V1 after V3 and that's a win. People were worried that the software will not function after the release or not receive maintenance in case a new OS rolls out etc. It has been confirmed that it'll still get that support, so everyone who can't/don't want to upgrade yet will still be able to keep working with CSP V1 for several more years. How is that not a win?
      Also the "you lose a year of sub payment" when you go back to vanilla is some hot take. If you use the software with the upgrades then there you have your money's worth. If you're not using it, that's on you. Your statement has the same energy as if you were trying to tell someone a streaming service cheated money out of their pocket because they didn't watch any of their shows that month. Once again a reminder to everyone, you're not forced to buy the upgrades. Get them only if you need them. The software is already robust enough without these new features and you'll be able to keep using it just like this for years to come. Not that you care, you're already mindset on Krita by the looks of it, so why even bother?

    Dang I think I bought clip studio in like, November of 2021, I was so close! The main things that would really help me when using Clip Studio Paint is specifically relating to polishing the animation feature and polishing the 3d models while also allowing them to be animated. The current way people do it is constantly duplicating the model for each frame. I primarily want to animate with 3D models with the key frames because I want to learn to stay on model as well as learn 3D animation while I learn 2D at the same time. People do the key frames right now but with duplicating every pose it gets really messy for anything longer than a couple seconds, let alone a fight scene

It makes sense to mess up though because they probably don't have a large guy there to make sure it's accurate.

What was showcased is hardly worth the triple the price tag of 60 dollars. Just because I bought the one time license to have access to those tools justify the price increase for a barebones update? I have a feeling their going to focus more on 3d models. There are pros and cons to both, but ultimately, it comes down to what device you want to work with.
      There's also a big sale on all of the Clip Studio versions. If you go to the sales page, it has a pretty good distinction on which plan is for which device category!

    I mean it's not like they listened, They more so just did what they should have done in the 1st place which was elaborate the pricing and what features they were trying to sell people on with this new model.
    As I recall what many people wanted was for them to axe the subscription model, Reassure them support for Helping 1.0 Remain stable Would never end, And offer the new features as assets you can purchase individual of each other.
    They don't seem to be changing all that much. The pricing and the options of purchasing and upgrading are reassuring, But this did little too Instill confidence in people who are worried about how this can affect CSP's future or Explain how badly V 2.0/3 will get gutted without the update pass. Sure it's $30 a year right now but like with all subscription services that can And most likely inevitably will change.
    Not that this bothers me personally, I plan on getting the subscription service because I want to start drawing on tablets for when I have to finish projects at work. What I am saying is I can understand why some people can still be annoyed by this and I'm honestly kind of surprised how people aren't still upset, although I imagine the biggest reason for the anger was the lack of information. I suspect people feared they would be paying 30 dollars a month instead of 30 dollars a year. Someone living on the street can afford that.

      I do agree that they should have given this information to us with the first announcement - I stated this in both this and in the previous video. I think one of the biggest things here - and my referral to the they listened part - is the support for V1. For many, the biggest concern was losing the functionality of the V1 version after V3 but now we know that they'll have maintenance for it. I don't think it's gonna be an indefinite thing, as it never is for software, but at least it's reassuring that people who can't/don't want to switch over to the new versions (yet) will be able to keep using V1 for more years to come - given the current version is literally already professional level I think that's a win.
      Honestly to me it feels like most of the upset people are still either running on misinformation or simply are butthurt that their boycott didn't make the software free going forward. Even in the first announcement, it was already stated that the upgrade pass won't cost more than the current subscription plans so it was to be expected to be inexpensive and not 30 dollars per month - people online simply just fail at reading comprehension and rather go on twitter or tiktok for information and not check their sources.
      While I do agree that we still need to see more information on what the future will look like after the release of V3, I'm positive that it's not gonna be a disaster like say Adobe was.

    Can somebody help me please? In 3 days you won't get v2 for free anymore. I have not bought v1 yet. Should I buy within the next 3 days or what would the cost be for v2? Could not find it.

    It's still subscription based...and if you don't pay sub then you lose all updates for 2.0 even if you were paying sub previously. Then what about when Ver.3.0 comes out? How much more are we gonna have to pay for the small amounts of feature changes at a time???
    imo nothing really changed that much other than making a this one-time pay/free/discounted for ver.2.0 only (not including other updates of 2.0) It feels like a bait for the sub. I'm curious how well 2.0 will be w/o the updates to really be worth it.

      @saigamiproject  Год назад

      If you feel like the new features are small amounts you simply don't have to buy the upgrade pass. You won't be forced to purchase it, CSP will still have all of its current features you can keep using just like before.
      While I wish we had more info on ver3, it still doesn't feel like baiting to me. It's an optional thing to add, but there's no arm twisting or tricks.

      Basically you are their beta testers. You pay for early access updates for the next version, and don't forget to keep paying for those beta updates or you will lose them. Paying for being a beta tester instead of being paid... what a nice job, right?

    Can I just ask, when they say that newer users get it for free do they actually mean that its free? Like no subscriptions or extra hidden payments later on or something? I personally find it to sound a little bit vage and nobody wants to go into details about it.

    To saigamiproject,
    I got an quick question to ask (if you have time), hypothetically when I get Clip Studio Paint (One-time License) Ver 2.0 with 'Update Pass' and suddenly I cancel the Update Pass only. Will the software version revert back to 2.0 or not?

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад

      You will lose access to the upgrade pass features once the upgrade pass expires - which is currently 12 months. So say you buy the upgrade pass in May 2023 - you'll get the feature upgrades until May 2024 even if you cancel it earlier than that. I hope this helps!

    do i get the discount upgrade price if i purchased the version 1 licence this year??
    nevermind. the video just said it. im stupid
    im so glad, since i bought clip studio when all this was going on so it was kind of playing with fire....
    its kinda weird there are only 5 or so comments tough?

      @saigamiproject  Год назад +1

      Lol I'm glad the video could answer your question. :) Sometimes taking risks really pays well, and now you get that free upgrade. :D I'm sure there's gonna be more comments with time, but of course, this is basically a smaller topic than the first announcement from CSP, and less room for people to snark about so there's that too lol I'm just doing my part here to inform folks about the good news and provide a different view on the whole drama that's not catering to panic generating and just blind accusations.

    I still have Manga studio license and I have current updated of CSP 1.12.8 and do we still get updated of 2.0?

      If you have CSP ver 1 from before this year (including from upgrading from Manga Studio) then you'll be able to upgrade to ver 2.0 at the discount price.

      If you open up Clip Studio Paint - on the top menu go to Help - Version information and it'll show your current version number.

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад

      If you buy ver1 now, you'll be able to upgrade for ver2 for free. So nothing bad there. New CSP customers will get the upgrade to V2 for free.
      Depending on what device you want to use it on here's the quick breakdown:
      Android and IOS - they'll have the same subscription plan as right now. All updates will be included in that monthly/yearly fee.
      If you want it for Windos or Mac, then you have to buy the perpetual license - the one-time purchase of the software. This allows you to use all of the software's cutrent features. Starting next year, there are going to be new features added, which you can get with an upgrade pass, which will add these new features to your CSP for 12 months. If you don't want them, you don't have to buy it and still have all of the current features.
      I hope this helps!

    honestly I'm all lost with all information that confuse us , and not well made etc , I'm kinda don't want use CSP anymore, before it was way better... your video it's interesting, i do have a question, is the option per year gonna disappear? cuz i was paying on my tablet Samsung for that, and i also have the V1 on laptop( one time purchase payment i bought in 2020 may)

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад +1

      I do agree that this could have been communicated better, and I hope Celsys learned from this, and going forward, we'll get clearer updates and information.
      If you're on the tablet version, nothing really will change. You'll keep paying the same subscription fee, and it'll include all of the upgrades automatically, including v2 and the new features added to that.
      The only difference will be on the Windows/Mac version. Since you bought ver1 before this year, you'll have the option to upgrade to v2 on the discount price. After that, you can choose to get an upgrade pass to get the newest features added after the release of v2. On the Samsung version, you'll get those included in your subscription.

    So, if I do not keep paying a yearly upgrade fee I lose all the previous updates I formerly paid for? That's not cool. Also, if you do upgrade with the one time fee to 2.0 do they continue to update security features as they promised with 1.0 or do you have to be on the subscription model for that?

    • @saigamiproject
      @saigamiproject  Год назад +1

      The security updates and bug fixes will be included regardless of whether you get the upgrade pass or not, so you won't need to pay anything extra or switch to subs to keep using your software with all of its current features.
