Four years later, here’s what I learned about my 2018 Civic EXT (bought new June 2018) currently 121,000 miles averaging 34.1 mpg: - The performance is zippy (slight CVT lag and turbo lag). - It’s very reliable. No major repairs aside from changing battery after three years, AC system fail after 116,000 miles (fully covered by Honda for known AC issue), water pump, drive belt replacement after 120,000 miles. Best car I’ve ever owned for overall reliability and cost of ownership.

Thanks, Brian. My saleslady showed me these tricks but by the time I got home I had forgotten how to do them and what they were. I appreciate your video.
Thank you so much for the comment and for watching. There is also another website that may help: www.hondahelp.ca It's for Honda's in Canada but this website shows all of the videos on how to use the features in your car. The US version is coming but I don't know when.
Was thinking I needed to buy a remote to start the car. Couldn't have been happier to know I could do it so easily. Now I don't have to go out in the cold weather to start the car.
I got a 2017 White Civic Sport Touring Hatch and LOVE it! Here's something I think some will appreciate..... When you have your windshield wipers on AUTO, the back window wiper (if you have one) will automatically go on when you put it in REVERSE.
Does it matter what class civic, or as long as it's a civic the window trick works? For example I just have a sport with a key starter. Will the window trick still work?

Thanks for the tip on the hidden menu and the live wallpapers! I tried it in my ‘19 EX Hatchback and it worked! Pretty cool! Also never even noticed the “S” on the gear shifter!
Drive (S) gear isn't sport mode in the Civic. It changes gear ratios just like in D, but at a lower range, resulting in higher RPM. It does give a little bit better acceleration but it's also there to give better engine braking when you're driving in hilly terrain (downhill).
I did not know about the secret menu or using the key to roll up the windows. Countless times I have forgotten to roll up the windows. It starts to rain, I have to go out,get into the car, start it, and then roll up the windows. Love the feature
When I apply eco mode or without eco. How do I manage to stay in green while increasing rpm. I swear my car stay in green but I’ll stay at 43 miles per hour and it won’t budge or I am getting on the highway and still can’t get speed unless I go over like 5 rpm
I have a 2018 Honda Civic Si and although the brake hold is a super cool feature especially for a manual car, almost every time I turn it off it's still working or "on" for the remainder of my drive until I turn the car off and back on again. I wish it would actually turn off when I turn it off. Anyone else have this issue?
Omg I’ve been driving my car for the past year and NEVER knew about Sport mode !! Thank you I love you! Also, brake hold is my absolute favorite thing about this car. I love that it has a designated button, unlike my husband’s Subaru where you have to go through like 5 menu settings to to turn it on every single time you start your car.
I tought that the moon roof when it is opening, that part of the glass come outside of the roof. I know that its only of sport plus, am i right? And there are some more tricks, like smart key start, wich is good when its cold, just hold one button on the key and the car will start up. I know some things because i ordered sport plus 2018 and its coming in 7 days
Optimus Prime awesome that you have a Sport coming in! You will love it. The moonroof does not come outside of the roof, it goes inside it. The remote start is only activated when you hit the lock button first, btw. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Hey Auto Guy Bri, 2 more questions if it pleases the court..... 1. I'm confused because of different things I've read on the Honda Forums. Some claim you can set the heated seats so in the chilly morning your seat will warm up when you auto start the car. 2. Is it possible to set the car temp ABOVE 72 degrees so that once again, when you auto start the car, it will heat to the temp you set the night before? or is the auto 72 a default setting for year round? Thanks much Bri!
Hey Bill. To answer your questions, the seats will come on automatically when you start the car from the house. They turn on just enough to heat them up but you still have to turn them on again when you get in the car to start it. The second answer to your second question is yes the temperature is a default setting by the factory. I am not aware that you can change that. I'm not sure how it works in US models but you guys sure have a lot of trim levels compared to us. We have 8 speakers in all trims except touring which has 12.
I apologize for sounding foolish, but is there a switch within the car to let the trunk release button on the keyfob to work? I’ve checked the glove box and under the driver seat and see nothing. (2018 civic hatch)
Sounds like it could be a problem with the key fob or possibly it could be a fuse. Does the fob open the doors still? On a Hatch, the button only unlocks the truck so that when you go to open it, it opens and the doors stay locked. Sounds like you may need to bring it to a service center to get it looked at.

Tip 5 and 6 are for any Civic. To upload your own photo you have to insert a usb stick into the media port (where you plug in for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto) and go to the secret menu in tip #5 and choose "gallery" under the wallpaper settings. Thanks for watching!
@@AutoGuyBri do the pics have to be any specific specs cuz I have loaded some on a usb but the load option lights up for a second and that's it. And option 5 won't work on our 208 civic lx....hmmm
Weird that you don't have the same screen....in Canada it is the same screen across all trims except the DX which no ones ever orders. I'm sorry that you are stuck with the screen that you have. On the bright side, you still have an AMAZING car!
What would happen if you have the car on sport mode with Econ button on? I mean I know the Sport mode will make you go faster and waste more gas of course and the Econ basically makes your car from 4Cyn to 2cyn. So would it be bad for your car to be on Sport Mode with the Econ on????
I personally think that Econ mode is pointless. I would rather have a more enjoyable drive and spend a couple more dollars on gas than use it. Plus, Econ mode doesn't allow your A/C work as well. So, to answer your question.... I have no idea. Ha. I don't like my car on Econ mode so I never use it.
And eco doesnt make your car seem like a 2 cylinder. The purpose of eco is to put less friction to the gas so you have less input into your acceleration which allows you to save gas. It doesnt actually mess with your speeds, basically when your stepping on the gas about mid way you can feel how easy it is to push the gas compared to when you take eco off and press it you accelerate with less effort. But like I mentioned early you still have the 4cylinders. P.S I wouldn't recommend doing sport and eco. It seems every time I do so it kinda has a weird input its like pushing a vehicle to its limit in mileage and acceleration I'd recommend doing one at a time. For helping your engine in the long run.
Nothing really happens, In a sense it drives just like you were in drive but like I mentioned earlier the purpose of eco is to help you save gas. Now this just may be me but when I did it I smelled gas burning. Like the civic couldn't push enough and save enough at the same time. BUT I have a 2015 honda civic lx. So I really couldn't tell you bud. But with my experience I wouldn't recommend trying to force those two together. I mean for casual driving it may be fine but if your trying to push it. (Take off traction control and eco) that'll give you your best acceleration. And btw S mode is sport mode. It allows you to have better braking and acceleration and of course rpm. So people who try to say other wise. Just look it up like I said all Honda's are different based on country, year and type of civic.
Jessie Michael oh ok thanks I was just asking because since Econ makes you put less input on gas etc and Sport mode does the opposite, I just wanted to know if it was ok to put those 2 together.
I have a 2016 civic SI if I do not run it for 4 weeks it drains the battery and it is dead. Is there any way to put it in sleep mod so it will stop doing that ???
Great question Ken! There is an answer for that: no.co/g750 This is a trickle charger. It gets installed to your battery terminals and has a quick connect to a charger that plugs into an outlet. When you know that you will be gone for a long time, plug this bad boy in and turn it on! It will keep a charge going on your battery. Hope this helps.
I live of grid 30 miles by water from the car. I use a solar charger and a jump battery to get it running when I go to town. And I'm on the second battery in the car now. So was hoping there was a sleep mod in the car like your phone has.
You could do a factory reset but all you really need to do is swipe down from the top like in the video but this time choose regular wallpapers instead of Live Wallpaper. That will bring it back to normal.
Awesome to be able to roll all the windows down and sunroof back to let the hot air out, but is there a quick "one button" way to reverse it when you're back in the car? It would be great to be able to press a button to close all windows and sunroof automatically. Thanks for the content.
Haha, unfortunately not as I was hoping the same thing. The only way is to take out the key from the fob and put it in the door and lock twice and on the second time, hold it. Thanks for watching!
Auto Guy Bri Man they really need to fix that! At least make it so when you click up the back windows they rise to the top automatically. If there’s a “one button” option to roll them all down with the fob, there should be a “one button” way to close all windows once you’re in the car. Twice I’ve used the unlock feature to roll my windows down as I’m walking towards my parked car, and I’ve forgotten to roll the rear windows up, only the front windows and sunroof... last night it down poured and my back windows were open. :( That’s pretty frustrating! Do they ever come out with “software updates”?
Auto Guy Bri I had an idea after leaving that comment to see if the rear windows would still roll down with the fob if I had the “window lock” button on in the car - but yeah, they still roll down. Annoying. Apparently they can’t all automatically roll up for some safety reason. Rant over!
Haha. I guess the whole point of the windows opening is to air out the car when it's hot out. Wouldn't really do that great of a job if only the driver side and passenger side opened and not the back ones.
Maybe you can help! I just got a 2017 Honda Civic hatchback ex and I cannot figure out how to get the Apple car play to work or how to see contacts on phone setting on the screen. I got the Bluetooth to work but that’s about it
The first thing is to make sure your iPhone software is up to date. If it isn't, Apple CarPlay may not work. The next thing is to make sure the cable you are using does data transfer as well as charging. Some of the cheaper cables only do charging and not data. It's best to use the cable your phone came with. Also, you have to make sure Apple CarPlay is turned on on your phone and that Siri is on as well. If that doesn't work, try doing a factory reset in the cars infotainment unit. Go to settings, system, scroll to bottom of page and hit the FACTORY RESET. Try connecting again. Hope this helps.
Auto Guy Bri thank you!!! I will try this. I updated my phone yesterday. I used an older cord so maybe that’s why. Is the factory reset on the car correct?
Auto Guy Bri hmm it’s hard to explain with out pictures but when I go click on phone on the screen like nothing is available for me to click on...like contacts , recent phone. The only thing that pops up sometimes is “transfer” “hang up” “mute”
You don't need to use any other brakes but there is an electronic parking brake you can use if that makes you feel better. It is right beside the gear shift. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Hey Bri -- Great tips! The live wallpaper is a hoot! I discovered something your subscribers might find helpful Like most people, I have come to trust my car's HAL (computer) to always turn off the lights when I walk away. And of course it does. It took me along time to REALLY trust it, being as how I come from old school where for some inexplicable reason all car manufactures for eons designed it so that headlights could stay on even when you turned off the engine. Why ANYONE would need to have the headlights leaving the car in a state that would kill the battery in a matter of a hour or so. So way they designed ti that way -- lights on with the engine off, remains a mystery. I have gotten burned many times by that flaw, so imagine how great it is that now they've designed that flaw out of cars. Now the lights go off automatically with no danger of killing your battery. And I admit, for quite a while, i didn't trust the car and would stand there and wait to see if they actually did go out. So it is great now that the dead battery problem because of lights staying on is a thing of the past....or is it? Now I have a parking space that requires me to manually open a gate, and to do that, my car's rear end has to jet a bit into the road. Not more than the parked cars along the curb, but still, I've taken to put on my hazard flashers just in case. Thing is, one day around midday with the sun was high and bright, I opened the gate as usual and pulled into my parking space. I gathered up the shopping bags and admittedly, I was distracted. The bright sunny day made the flashers almost invisible. The clicker sound for the flashers in the car was almost inaudible. In short, I left the car without turning off the hazard lights. And THAT my friends, is still a very real this-will-kill-you-battery flaw. Those flashers, even though they are LEDs and draw very little current, they STILL will kill your battery if left on long enough. And now with covid, I leave that car parked for days. Here's my thought on it. It is such a problematic thing to come to your car to find a dead battery. And yes, you do want to be able to have your flashers on even with the motor off, but that can easily be addressed, especially in this day and age with the computers running the car's electrical system. There is no reason at all why they can't program the computer to sense when the hazards are draining the batter to a point where it is getting dangerously close to not having enough power to start the car. At that point, it should automatically turn off the hazards. They are going to go out anyway if the battery continues to die, so better they go out a little sooner and allow the battery to start the car instead of killing it completely. I am just saying, especially now when you have the expectation that you can safely walk away from the car and you will not have to check the lights and not worry that you battery could be drained, seems they could easily...SHOULD easily make that an actually true fact.
Wow you know you are telling most people already know, plus HondaPro Jason bey you yo the punch along with other Honda dealers but you got f0r the punch.
Well, if you really want to get technical, the information that HondaPro as well as other out there have made videos of is actually in the manuals that come with the car.... So I guess you could say Honda beat all of us to the punch.
Hi Auto Guy, I juist bought a Civic (living in The Netherlands) and followed your tip how to open the windows and roof with. You said that closing has to be done with the key. This is not neccessary. You can click twice on the close button and hold it the second time. Automatically roof and windows will shut. So the same procedure as opening only use the close button. Regards, Henk
nobody knows this but the 2018 and 2019 Honda civic has autopilot when you get all the safety Features added to the car but there isn't any video on RUclips to show you how to turn Autopilot on which is disappointing but if there were videos of how to turn autopilot on in youtube that would be nice
There is no autopilot mode. If you are referring to lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control, those are NOT to be used as an autopilot feature. Please drive safe!
Carolina Valles haha. I can honestly say that I have a lot of customers who ask me about the "S" and the gas tank so that's why I put these in the video. Thanks for watching!
If you can lower your windows with the unlocky why can't you close all your windows with the lock button? Imagine you're in your house and you go "oh i left my window sunroof open and just tap lock to close everything"

Jessie Michael ok thanks but what happens if you have the Econ and Driving on Sport mode?
It’s 4am and I reaaaally want to go change my wallpaper
I have a 2016 civic SI if I do not run it for 4 weeks it drains the battery and it is dead. Is there any way to put it in sleep mod so it will stop doing that ???
Great question Ken! There is an answer for that: no.co/g750
This is a trickle charger.
Totally understand. This is the cheapest and easiest way to keep the battery charged when you aren't using the car for long periods of time.
Can we shift from drive to sports while moving on road ??
Yes you can!
Thanks sir :)
Is it going to ruin anything or effect anything?
Maybe a dumb question, but why is there a battery icon on the infotainment screen?
That tells you how much charge is left on your cell phone. Thanks for the question!
Auto Guy Bri figured that would be the case, thanks!
How do you reverse skin back to its original settings?
You could do a factory reset but all you really need to do is swipe down from the top like in the video but this time choose regular wallpapers instead of Live Wallpaper. That will bring it back to normal.
How many different skin layouts are there?
2. You can add your own wallpaper though.
Auto Guy Bri thanks! I knew about the background change. Didn’t know about the layout.
100% agree with you!
Auto Guy Bri also do you know anything about the phone option on the car? When I click on it not much is highlighted
You'll have to be more specific...what do you mean not much is highlighted?
Auto Guy Bri hmm it’s hard to explain with out pictures but when I go click on phone on the screen like nothing is available for me to click on...like contacts , recent phone. The only thing that pops up sometimes is “transfer” “hang up” “mute”
You can close the windows from your remote as well no need to take out the Key...Maybe that's just in the European version...
Not on the Canadian one. I wish!
Rolling up all of the windows with the key did not work on my honda civic ex 2016 :(
It only works to roll them down, not up. 😉
Tips no.3 dealer told me need to un buckle to do that.
I'm the 530th follower and I feel special
Is there anything I can do to make this an even more special event for you? Haha.
Can change cluster meter colour?
Unfortunately, you can't.
When I stop my car and put it in parking, do i need to use any other brakes ? im confused because my 2019 civic dont have emergency brakes
You don't need to use any other brakes but there is an electronic parking brake you can use if that makes you feel better. It is right beside the gear shift. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
@@AutoGuyBri but generally do i need to use the electronic parking brake when i put the car in park
No you do not have to use it.
Jimmy son there is actually a setting to apply the emergency brake automatically when you turn the ignition off. Procedure in owners manual
how do you turn on rear seat heater
There is no rear seat heater in the Sport trim.
I tried it on my 1991 civic and it didn’t work. Am i doing something wrong?
Haha!
you should find out how to turn autopilot on so you can make a video about it
Hey Bri -- Great tips!
English please.
I have same key ring
does the key fob window thing work only with remote start vehicles?
great tips!
Should work on the non proximity keys too. I had a customer try on her 2012 Pilot and it worked!
works on my 17 LX
Hi Auto Guy, I juist bought a Civic (living in The Netherlands) and followed your tip how to open the windows and roof with. You said that closing has to be done with the key. This is not neccessary. You can click twice on the close button and hold it the second time. Automatically roof and windows will shut. So the same procedure as opening only use the close button. Regards, Henk
In Canada we do not have that option. Congrats on getting your Civic!
Thanks!
nobody knows this but the 2018 and 2019 Honda civic has autopilot when you get all the safety
Features added to the car but there isn't any video on RUclips to show you how to turn Autopilot on which is disappointing but if there were videos of how to turn autopilot on in youtube that would be nice
There is no autopilot mode. If you are referring to lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control, those are NOT to be used as an autopilot feature. Please drive safe!
do you know if the brake hold keeps the brake lights on during hold?
Yes, the brakes lights stay on.
should also add you only need to engage it once and it auto engages every time you come to a complete stop until you cancel it.
Wow glad i watched that I've got the same car would never have known ffs .ps am sure that's what the manual is for
I’m not completely dumb I knew the gas door and sport mode I’ve figured that much out on my Civic lol 😂
Carolina Valles haha. I can honestly say that I have a lot of customers who ask me about the "S" and the gas tank so that's why I put these in the video. Thanks for watching!
Auto Guy Bri I have another L under the S do you happen to know what that one is?
Carolina Valles it is the Low Gear. If you are stuck in snow or mud, it starts your car in 2nd gear instead of first to help you get out of your jam.
I actually knew all of these
If you can lower your windows with the unlocky why can't you close all your windows with the lock button? Imagine you're in your house and you go "oh i left my window sunroof open and just tap lock to close everything"
very fun window trick i got rain in my car once in summer and snow once not to long ago
I knew 3 of the 5
Is this only for the touring?
jphenx Well I am not sure how it is in the US but in Canada, these work on most trim levels.
It works at all 10th gen civics I supposed.
My walpaper in the new skin keeps going back to the default one
Have you tried doing a factory data reset? Or possibly a firmware update? See your dealership for those ones.
Ill probably ask about it when i go to get the windows tinted
