Edit: Picked up a new Swa Dweller 43 instead. Love it. Sub with benefits.

I have been wearing my 1991 16610 since new! Never worried about it. Serviced twice in 33 years and is still worn everyday and is also +2 everyday. I can also put my old 3135 on its side every other day and gets the same result. I really can’t be arsed , it’s 14 seconds fast every Sunday when I reset and wind. It’s scratched it’s so comfortable and not heavy at all. I think it’s a little more reserved than the ceramic models and I personally like that. Nobody gives a f*’k about it and all the time I have worn it it’s never had a single comment and I have worn it to do everything, never taken off!

If you wear it everyday, why are you winding it on Sundays?

I can relate, whilst mine is only 21 years old, and in summers I swap it to a rubberb strap for comfort, makes it look like Yachtmaster. It flys under the radar. You can wear and forget. And I agree, there is no substitute.

I have a Submariner Date that I purchased from an Authorized dealer in the Bahamas in 2004 for about 5k US. The wife and I just walked in off the street and bought it on a whim. I have had it service twice now (by an authorized dealer), both complete overhauls that cost over $1000.00 each time (ouch) I definitely need to start taking better care of it. It is a great watch and I wear it everyday, as such it gets pretty beat up but the good news is that when you send it for service they buff right out. Enjoy

Wear the watch, don't let the watch wear you! Great video, and glad you've been enjoying your Sub so much. I wear mine the same. I looked at it like this. When someone buys a vintage Sub, the seller will usually keep it in the used condition from the previous owner, and the buyer will typically not look to restore because of the story it tells. I chose to write mine's first story, and like you will pass it down. Keep up the fantastic work!

I bought one too in 2022 when this refreshed model first came out. Love the changes, especially the slimmed down lugs versus the previous model. As a lifelong Submariner fan, I think this is the perfect one. Also nice is that I then sold my first Submariner I bought new in 1997 $3500 for $8200 on eBay, and it paid for most of my new one. Kind of hard to go wrong there! If I had to sell all my watches and keep just one, this is it.

I bought this watch, I feel the same as you do about it. My son loves it and plays with the dial, and I tell him it will be his watch one day. The most satisfying part is on the the go adjustment, every SS bracelet should have this feature, my wrist changes size throughout the day and this bracelet is amazing. I will however say, I recently have the opportunity to wear a Rolex GMT Master 2 for a week or so and the Jubiliee bracelet on that watch and the 40mm case is even more comfortable than the Sub 41. My wrist is 17.5 cm for reference. I see a GMT in my future but at the time it wasn't on my list.

I got a call for the 126610 but actually wanted the classic Submariner 124060 and was surprised that they were able to accommodate for that the same day and picked it up right away. I don't mind the cyclops on some Rolex watches but having some watches with it already (DJ36 and GMTs) the symmetrical 124060 only made sense for me.

I understand that in terms of mechanics this is very impressive, state of the mechanical art watch but look of it is so generic. It doesn't speaks to me at all! I would mod it. True story...
Also: I would love to see some durability, accuracy tests like many watch enthusiast do with other watch brands (mostly with Casio). Lack of such tests is rather obvious answer what Rolex mostly/really is: an exclusive fashion piece, made for snobs (no offence here!) who judge their status on what they have and keep their watches in pristine condition as capital investment. I know that Rolex was used in some missions here and there but it was long time ago...
I know you are not a snob (or not bigger than typical watch collector guy - "judging" on your YT channel which I follow for quite long time, which features so many cool and beautiful watches) but I don't see any reason to feel excitement about this particular watch or spend my money on watch I don't like and its accuracy is much lower than Casio F-91W which costs 20$. It is soulless, mechanical marvel...

    • @WatchGeek

Rolex is far from just a fashion piece. Yes, they are a victim of their own success which makes them a "flex" piece, but underneath that "hype" is truly one of the best mechanical watches out there, especially when it comes to toughness and durability! I have two that are 18 and 20 years old, never been serviced and both STILL keep time within 2 seconds a day, which is astonishing!! Other mechanical watches I own can't do it even when new. And another thing is consistency. They keep that time regardless of power reserve level or my way of wearing them. Something Seiko seems to struggle to achieve. I'll have a Seiko that keeps the same time because it is regulated, but only when the power reserve is full. As soon as it drops, the accuracy goes out the window.
Then my Reverso, which is my favorite watch in the collection. It is incredibly well made, but the accuracy is horrible because it is in dire need of a service.
Rolex is a more expensive and better made Seiko 5 from the 70's and 80s. You can strap it on and wear it for decades and it will do that job just as good as the day it was bought. I felt the way you feel until I bought the first one. Each one after that was the same, showing their consistency, which earned them respect with me.

    • @notyourtypicalwatchreview2563
      @notyourtypicalwatchreview2563 3 месяца назад

@@betulaobscura Rolex has undergone some incredibly tough tests, in house, and in the field. A little research on your part would reveal that. Here and there? The Submariner was one of, if not the go to watch for divers for decades. As for accuracy, it runs at +/- 2 seconds a day. It is a tool watch that can take abuse, and be worm in pretty much any situation. The fact that it is still valued and sought after since the 1950’s, and is constantly being improved, speaks to its quality.
