The good part about me being goth is that when mesh gets shitty and tears, it works better for my look 😆
HAHAHA yesssss
I was about to say that too lol.
A detachable sailor collar is a pretty good beginner sewing project ‐ not much fabric, mostly straight lines.
it’s a great trend to DIY!
Great tips! Unfortunately, I learned many of these the hard way. A cheap pair of thrifted cowboy boots (synthetic “leather” too) I swear gave my foot actual nerve damage! It took months for me to regain feeling in my big toe after that summer! Not to mention how many cool vintage block platforms I’ve had fall apart while wearing them. One of them during a final presentation in undergrad (yeah I was wearing three inch platforms for that, I can’t explain why).
omg so sorry about your foot! foot care is NOT something to mess around with, we gotta take care of our feet! also platforms at a presentation is so me bestie you better work xx
I have no style (leggings and a T-shirt DAILY) and don't follow fashion but I loved listening to you talk about this stuff and seeing what gen z is trying to put us through
i love love love the striped pj pants and micro shorts trends but i think those are two that are super easy to thrift!!!!
agreed!
Literally obsessed with you, so many good points here and so much nuance!! Loving this content so here for it!!
9:04 you’re soo right ! Since I started watching your videos and became conscious abt what materials I wear , I try to avoid polyester. It really does not feel good on my skin and , especially in the summertime, ✨smells✨.
YESSS it holds the stinky in the fabric 🥲
It's safe to say that I won't be wearing most of those trends, but cowboy boots and flip flops are the two trends I'm sticking to. I also checked Ariat's website, and their shoes are mad expensive!
some boots are more in the $150 range but for real leather quality boots that last it’s a good price! trust me some companies sell boots for wayyyy more haha
I agree on the flip flop thing, I basically live in them during summer 🙈 but I thrifted a pair of original cowboy boots for 20$ maybe that’s an option for you 😉
I know polyester is bad for the planet and tend not to buy it new and in mass market, but god, I can't help but love it. I know it's an unpopular opinion these days, but as somebody who lives in quite a cold climate and is always freezing - I really love unbreathable fabrics, as they don't let the heat out. And it also doesn't wrinkle, which is a huge benefit for me too..)
And yeah, sometimes it looks bad and cheap, but sometimes it's quite a thick, good looking and durable fabric, especially if it was made 10+ years ago.
Of course, I wouldn't wear it during the heat, but I usually need a jacket throughout the summer, except for 2-3 weeks maybe 😅
i’m so texture sensative so it’s a no for me, but most normal people don’t mind a little polyester🤣
@@dionthetaurus oh, heard about textural sensitivity, must be quite tough(
Can't imagine what I'd do with it, as this way wool seems to be off limits too -__-
@@the_purple_mood wool is so hard for me! cashmere is the way to go 🫢
@@dionthetaurus oh, cashmere is really nice! I'm a little scared of this kind of fabrics as they're so easy to ruin, though I've heard with the right maintenance they make life-long staples! Great there are such options!)
Ooo have you tried Merino Wool as a base layer? We swear by it in MN, especially up North
I saw someone buy seven new bathing suits in a haul video because they were “going to the lake for seven days and needed one for every day” like girl what!! I have lived 10mins from a beach/body of water my whole life and I think at MOST I’ve only owned four bathing suits at one time. Big yikes! (Great video btw 😊)
I've been seeing those popcorn tops in stores, I could barely believe my eyes
Also, if you like micro shorts as a look but find it hard to wear, I’ve seen a lot of girls get the micro short trend as swim bottoms. So it makes it a fun little beach outfit which I think is really cool
yes a cute vintage look!!!
I love the perspective you have from one Miami girl to another
🧡🌴
Thank you for the video!😊
❤❤❤
Dion I absolutely love your videos
awww tysm!!!
Still have my bathing suit from middle school, bottoms are a little tight though. Love the bralette, briefs look
once you find a good suit you don’t need another!
Sailor tops are also pretty easy to thrift on Depop and stuff like that- I see a lot of girls hand making them on there also
Early on I thought: "Dion should write a book". This vid restates the book's title, "Have Fashion Without Buying." This vid is a chapter with a twist. The book is about Influencing. This chapter is explicitly DEinfluencing. It is very smart. I usually have one or two disagreements with Dion on what she promotes or demotes. Here, I have none. Zip, zero, nada, as we Boomers say.
Dion leads with don't buy cheap or second-hand shoes, especially not flip-flops, and I used to date a woman who sold her high-end (e.g. Louboutin) shoes on Ebay. I never thought anything of it. Now I think it's gross. The idea of buying somebody else's SHOES is repulsive to me now.
Same thing with cowboy boots. It's just disgusting to imagine wearing another girl/woman's BOOTS. Jeezus.
Pajama pants: Dion nailed this imo as a trend you're going to regret. Wearing sleepwear in public is not fashionable. It's just not. Period there.
Buying lots of bikinis. Dion is spot on again. "Nobody cares if you repeat your bikinis." 100% CORRECT. I didn't know that having a dozen bikinis was even a thing. Yes: DEinfluence that shit.
Polyester in summer. This whole vid is for summer. And once more, Dion is right: polyester when it's hot out and you're sweating? Why don't you just wear studded nails, it's so uncomfortable. I almost dealt with this in Pajama pants: Pajama pants are not fashion and you will regret it. As I did with...the leisure suit. YES, I had one. ONE. They were hideous AND they were made of 100% polyester. Unfortunately, I think there's a picture of me in one. Don't let a picture of you be taken in pajama pants.
Micro shorts: crawling up your bodily orifices. Oh that sounds PLEASANT!
Sheer mesh: Agreed. 100% agreed. It's like you don't know what you want to do: be sheer or wear stripper body stockings so you widen the holes in the fabric. That's a fail.
Popcorn tops. Who...What...Why? They're not attractive, they look handmade. If you want to wear something that looks handmade, hand make it! Why would you BUY it?
Sailor clothes: Agreed. 100%. I thought we were over that. Around the time of our Gulf wars there was a brief trend in militarizing women's fashion. Gold sleeve stripes, etc. I liked that. But the sailor thing, no. It doesn't look good. But, as Dion said, If YOU like it, wear it.
Can't imagine a more influential de-influencing vid. A MILLION thumbs up!
hahaha thanks dad!!! and i would LOVE to see the leisure suit picture 🤣
I watch Dion and come to the comments for her dads discourse, there I said it. Period.
You will NEVER see that photo.
Thank you so much @newgeneration1234. 🫶
@@newgeneration1234 the mans always got something to say🤣
New subscriber! A fellow taurus You are so right about the popcorn tops bleh!!! I'm living for floaty cotton dresses in the summer. TX can be brutal.
I bought 3 pairs of jelly shoes from lc Waikiki (one pink, one off white, one black, wish i had bought more) and i have had them for 2 years. The buckle on the pink broke so i got it replaced by a metal buckle. Sometimes cheap shoes can last a while. I have some knock off crocs with little roses on them that I have had for 3 years now. I purchased them from one of those cheap home goods stores when i was living in Bulgaria and they were less than 5 usd. I have big feet and there was only one pair for me in the whole pile so I couldn't buy multiple pairs 😢
Enjoyed your content 😊
tysm🧡
I don't understand buying more than like four bathing suits. I figured one bathing suit for each week if you are going to the beach or swimming often, but I have one bathing suit, and I haven't bought one in like four-five years lol.
I disagree. I only wear swimsuit for one day due to higenic reasons. Wearing it longer than one day is gross 🤮. So I have a fresh swimwear for everyday. I treat it as underwear, cause it touches your intimate places.
@@kingatrojanowska4675
It's not like underwear though. Plus it's not gonna be for that long, so you have like over 100 bathing suits!?
8 hours on the beach is not long for you!? For me IT IS a whole day. And NO I DO NOT live on the coast , so I have 13 sets to cover every day of holidays when I go. Not 100!!!
@@kingatrojanowska4675
That's still a little excessive and 8 compared to 24 for the underwear not to mention you wear underwear when you're on your period and sick so it gets messier faster.
I think you should probably rethink how you look at dirty clothing. And clothing touching genitals doesn't make it instantly dirty, it really depends on what you were doing while wearing it and whatever you got going on down there while wearing the bathing suit.
@@vvitch-mist20 do not patronize me. I think You have to look at your hygiene standards and educate yourself a tad bit more.
How do you guys even do cowboy boots in summer? I guess on a colder day maybe but then I see them styled with shorts, which doesn't really seem colder weather appropriate...? There are some combinations of clothes that just don't make sense to me from a weather perspective.
in the northeast ticks are SOOOO bad in the summer, and the lyme disease rates are wild. honestly replacing sandals with knee high boots with dresses and shorts are a good choice from a safety perspective! and with real leather it does breathe a bit more than a pleather !
I have 4 bathing suits and picked those 4 very meticulously.
I’m not a fan of mix and match bathing suits and prefer when my top and bottoms match, so I declutter any mix and matches first thing.
I then decided to have only 2 solid and 2 patterned bikinis. The solids I picked and tried and true colors for me, that I think flatter me and make me feel sexy and like myself- solid gold and a sparkly chocolate brown.
Then for my patterns, I went with a pinstriped orange bikini and a brown and plum geometric bikini. These are patterns I never get bored of and always have liked.
I really have no desire to get anymore bathing suits now, all the ones I have make me feel so good, cute, confident, and like myself.
and that’s the goal! having things in your closet that work best for you!
I love my ariat boots!
my mom has a pair and she doesn’t even ride! she just has really painful feet injuries and ariats are boots she can walk MILES in!
Micro shorts are hard I won’t lie but if I’m very determined to wear something short MONISTAT is the absolute GOAT- I mean it sucks to reapply every so often but it does work
We love cheche
I feel like this was one of those don't buy this, instead buy this video 🤔
i’m trying to preach buy ~less~ and invest rather than get cheap things that break year after year!
Yeah, that’s the whole point of the video. Buy things of quality that LAST, not the same cheap shit year after year.
