When you learn from experts like Michal who use these principles and practices in their patient work, you will understand a whole lot more than what you see on social media about mewing, or even from medical doctors - who don’t think it’s valid because of an absence of existing research.
They are correct that there is no gold standard research yet proving, or disproving its value. However, think about how Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in East Asian history to help the people cure disease and cultivate health + longevity. But there was no compelling body of western research proving the efficacy of Acupuncture until the late 1990s and early 2000s. Does that mean it wasn’t effective before that?
No. It means that no one performed research to study this ancient medicine until that point in time. Similarly, the knowledge of tongue posture’s importance in health has been known for hundreds, if not thousands of years already in holistic and traditional medicines.
It’s also used widely in functional therapies like with certain physiotherapist and occupational therapists. It is also now growing and emerging in the modern practice of dentistry. But, it’s just not something that the larger community of Western medicine acknowledges or uses in its approach to patient care.
