  • After more than 2 years of service I'm sharing my thoughts about this expensive home upgrade. This video is not sponsored by PURAGAIN water and represents my own opinion and experience with their product. As they say your mileage may vary. I'll tell you the good and the not so good with their claims and advertising. I'll also give you insight on how to gain the benefits of the system at a discount price.

    I live in AZ, I just had them install the whole house and alkaline reverse osmosis under the sink literally this very morning. The updated price is now $5,899. My hot water heater died and I purchased a new one, and decided before I install my new water heater, I better do water filtration system. Yes DIY would of been cheaper.. and get a local plumber to sweat the copper lines. But went with their company. It's $68 a month when you finance the system, I do like lifetime service calls. Other companies want 160-180 an hour for service calls. I will be installing my new water heater today, and I'll update my thoughts on the system a few months into it. The water here has hard water, chlorine etc. Hopefully, it will do a great job at providing clean and better water. I enjoyed your review, my co worker got the same system last year, and he's said it's been a great improvement over non filtered city water. The price jump sucks, but inflation doesn't help... I definitely didn't want salt. So we shall see how it goes.

    Appreciate the details you shared. Thank you! As far as the build up on your shower head, a neat idea I found from another Chanel is to fill a plastic bag with vinegar, place it around the shower head, secure it with a rubber band and leave it for a day. That does often work.

    This is a great review. I currently have a Lifesource whole house filter system with a water conditioner. It doesn't work that great to remove the scales from hard water. I saw Puragain's ad on instagram and was tempted. Your review is not biased and full of information. The only suggestion I have is that if you have included information on the alternative DIY system in the video or in the info section above, it will be even more helpful. Thank you again.

    Great video and thank you for this honest well thought-out review. I just came across this system and I have to say it's a far cry off from what the advertised video said. They claim that servicing would be free if charge for as long as you have the system. After hearing this it makes me wonder what the catch is and the price of $300 or so a year for servicing is a LOT of money. I mean the system itself is extremely over priced why add insult to injury. The system for production and storage probably costs them about $50 to produce and store $25 a Year until it sells, which almost never happens, so this is wild.

    Honestly, I am just so annoyed at the municipal water supplies ruining our pipes. why can't they soften the water at the water treatment plant? it just makes no sense for people to have to clean their water at home.

    I will never buy anything that requires someone other than me to service it. I have installed multiple whole house filters and softeners without issues. I came here looking for alternatives. Just not going to pay someone to install it nor have another yearly fee that appears to go up. Thanks for the video.

    Very interesting. I had considered getting a water treatment system years ago but never did. Fortunately, we moved to a new city where they don't seem to use chloramines, but we do get pink mold (Serratia Marcescens) build up which needs to be dealt with just as often as scale did before we moved but is much less of a pain to clean.

    Not to distract from the information you give on the filter austen, but your description of how a softener works is incorrect.
    The water flows through the canister full of negative on charge poly beads. The mineral contaminants in water have s positive charge and are unjustly attracted to the beads and get trapped.
    Then the tub with the salt bath (brine) in it gets flushed through the canister on a time or usage schedule. The brine is also negatively charged, so it takes the contaminants with it and renews the filter bed. Then the brine residue gets flushed out and down the drain. The salt solution doesn't go into the home.
    How much salt and water it uses depends on the quality of your water and how much you use, just like those puragain filters. But salt is super cheap.
    I worked for RainSoft many years ago, and had one on a previous home. I think it was about $4k installed about 20 years ago.

    Interestingly, I have a Nuvo h2o; however, it's ineffective at treating scale. I am looking for a replacement. I can't install a traditional salt-based solution as the city has banned those, so im considering a NAC or TAC based solution like lifesource or pureflo. Do you think the smaller size of the PURAGAIN system is impacting its effectiveness?

    What amount of friction loss is experienced going thru the 3 filters? If I have 60 psi at my outdoor spicket how much psi could possibly be lost to inside faucets?

    • @zachmortimer
      @zachmortimer День назад

      if it loses any pressure before it gets to the faucets its in breach of plumbing code, just saying ;) (spoiler alert you will either lose pressure with this system or flow water at a rate to fast for the carbon in this system to achieve full reduction)

    • @DIYMark
      @DIYMark  3 месяца назад

      My experience with Grohe sense has been mixed. It often will report it lost connection with my Wi-Fi and have to be reset. But it once saved me...it sensed a toilet flapper valve that was caught (jiggle the handle thing) when we went away for a long weekend and shut down the water. It would have been several days of wasted water.

    Do you say on the video “ typical maintenance like glass shower doors will still show of scale build up but it does take about twice as long between cleaning with Puragain system “ . Take longer time to clean the scale after the Puragain system?

    • @DIYMark

      No. It takes twice as long for the build up to need cleaning. In our case it went from needing cleaning every other week to once a month after water treatment. 🙂

    I should have waited to comment until I watch the entire video. They really sold you some incorrect information.
    A water softener would remove the scale issues. They're canister filters purchased for a fraction of what they charged. There is certainly the cost of installation involved
