5 Fav Tools for Experienced DIYer and Woodworkers
I'm going to share with you 5 of my favorite tools that never seem to get mentioned. I specifically chose tools that an advanced carpenter or woodworker can appreciate. I'm so sick of videos for beginners. Beginner tools, beginner woodworker tips, beginner projects. While I am interested in drawing people into the hobby and trade. I feel these cookie cutter videos are not doing the hard work. Reaching those of us who have been doing this for a while and are looking for a tool that can really help. But probably never had the chance to try it.
Here are the list of tools in this video. I make no money or gain benefit if you use the links. Support me by using the thumbs up on the video and su...

Milwaukee Wide Blade Tape Measure Review
Dont waist your money on the Makita
My Sub well earned Sir. Looking forward to both your past and future content. Thx
thank you
Good job Mark. (...and it's a Hare and a Tortoise on that button. Y'know, the fable/parable.) I'm for the Makita (...as I have many batteries and products), but lately I've used a number of Milwaukee products which may we outgun my system choice. Good to clear that up, Cheers.
This is exactly what I needed to see! I’m canceling my order for a non-oscillating Supermax. Little doubt that the time saved letting the machine get me closer to stain ready will quickly justify the extra cost.
Maybe we need to insist on better quality water from the city waters?
Hot bricks get dark. Your backsplash indicates maybe you don’t do much cooking
Thanks for the in depth review!
Inexplicably you never give the actual model numbers, and these makers have many many similar. I finally saw a screenshot at 5m36s that lists them all together. Anyway I ended up buying a Ryobi brushless similar to the one here, and really like it. Why? I don't need super high power, though it's plenty for me. I really like quiet tools and it's the quietest I've ever used. I don't have Ryobi batteries but I have a DeWalt 20V adapter and a dozen DW batts. It has a part throttle lock which is essential. Price is right. I also have used a DeWalt, Stihl, other non-brushless Ryobis, and gas backpacks. This is the first one I'm not even tempted to wear ear protection. I sure get tired of all the comments about how these piddling little 18V tools are a joke, you need a backpack or 60V for "real" power. Most homeowners are just blowing off our drives and walkways once or twice a week and light weight, quiet operation, and 20 min run time are just perfect. Bigger batteries and more power are a lot heavier and pricier, not really necessary, but if you need the power then have at it there are plenty of options.
Thank you very much. This was very helpfull.
I just had my first year service done, they changed 4 of the 6 filters at a cost of $450,,, so much for the $100 filter change they advertise !,,, the water is cleaner for sure but they lied about the cost of the filter change !
Great review. Thank you
this was my first look at a drum sander and it was a great introduction. First obvious question is can you have multiple drums that you drop in so you're not constantly wrapping them with different grits?
The short answer is no. It would take some significant deconstruction to get the drum out. It's not that bad to wrap paper on the drum after you do it a few times. But I get your point.
Thank you for this. After your very informative testing, I purchased the Makita. The wife loves it because its light and powerful, while I like the lock for blower setting. 👍
I live in El Mirage, AZ. I currently have a free consultation and testing today at 6pm….any opinions on whether i should get this or not? Thanks
Thus is a blowout. Not a shootout.
Great
a lawn mower can do the same job.
We only buy LG appliances because its less BS and they last. The only thing we had to replace in the last 20 years is the dishwasher and that was due to hard water and we did not want to fix it a second time lol. I have your dishwasher and we use the top / 3rd rack as its more easy than the basket we hate the basket it takes up to much room. We removed the basket out to make more space on bottom rack and put forks knifes spoons on 3rd rack all grouped in its type. Makes putting them away faster. We are replacing our LG stove and fridge this week and both about 15 years old and zero problems so old LG fridge is going in the garage so we have more freezer and fringe space for meat and juice etc. just things not needed in the house yet. Sadly the stove will go to recycle and that's kind of heartbreaking as I love that stove and it works but no one wanted a free stove :/ I'm upgrading to a induction stove with air fry oven etc LG studio for the win lol. Crazy nice stove and fridge we get this week really excited for them.
I looked at the reviews for this company. If you do the same , it appears to be a rip off when you have to replace filters. Per the reviews, they lie about haow much the filters when be when they sell you the system. So later, you get charged far more than they initially said. This looks like a SCAM.
Hi - for transparency- did you purchase all three with your own money ? Look forward to hearing from you. 👍
Absolutely. No sponsors or freebies.
@ 👍👍
I have one and I love it. Remember it works much better with light dry leaves but if you take your time it will work fine with wet leaves also. I wish I had one 30 years ago before I got this I had to drag tarped leaves 100 yards to the woods now I just roll the vacuum down and empty the bag
Hey this is a great idea. I like the 5 degree angle for the bars, adds a huge amount of strength! Definitely going to steal this for my plywood storage and other thin stuffs. I hate stacking them vertically on the back of my bench they're always in the way.
You can't call it a tie when you have a fourth place and third place rating... you can place one in each place OR you can tie both in one place. If you place them both in fourth and third place, then it isn't a tie ...
Genius? You have incorporated so many excellent ideas. Please come make one for me.
It works better if you fold the bag when it is on the ground before you put it on the machine
Look guys, this product is not a water softener. It does not effectively remove hardness from the water and will not help people who have are having skin issues, dry hair, etc. It is not an effective hardness removal system. Marketing it as a replacement to a water softener is false advertising. Please do you research on non-salt systems vs salt systems
Not to distract from the information you give on the filter austen, but your description of how a softener works is incorrect. The water flows through the canister full of negative on charge poly beads. The mineral contaminants in water have s positive charge and are unjustly attracted to the beads and get trapped. Then the tub with the salt bath (brine) in it gets flushed through the canister on a time or usage schedule. The brine is also negatively charged, so it takes the contaminants with it and renews the filter bed. Then the brine residue gets flushed out and down the drain. The salt solution doesn't go into the home. How much salt and water it uses depends on the quality of your water and how much you use, just like those puragain filters. But salt is super cheap. I worked for RainSoft many years ago, and had one on a previous home. I think it was about $4k installed about 20 years ago.
Rainsoft just quoted us like $9K
Very nice!

what about the rotex 150 have you tried it yet?
Great video and really helpful! Could you tell me, is the Makita the DUB184? Wanted to make sure it was the correct Makita before I buy!
Model # XBU03Z (tool only)
I think in a couple of years we will see more brands making these smart fridge and they will probably come down in price
Unfortunately in Australia there's not much application on the Samsung smart Harb it needs two cameras in it
Yes the water 💧 and ice blocks and crushed ice you have to use a wide large opening glasses and bottles other wise it goes everywhere but you can put other cameras into the fridge
I live in AZ, I just had them install the whole house and alkaline reverse osmosis under the sink literally this very morning. The updated price is now $5,899. My hot water heater died and I purchased a new one, and decided before I install my new water heater, I better do water filtration system. Yes DIY would of been cheaper.. and get a local plumber to sweat the copper lines. But went with their company. It's $68 a month when you finance the system, I do like lifetime service calls. Other companies want 160-180 an hour for service calls. I will be installing my new water heater today, and I'll update my thoughts on the system a few months into it. The water here has hard water, chlorine etc. Hopefully, it will do a great job at providing clean and better water. I enjoyed your review, my co worker got the same system last year, and he's said it's been a great improvement over non filtered city water. The price jump sucks, but inflation doesn't help... I definitely didn't want salt. So we shall see how it goes.
Also living in AZ, do you regret your purchase?
Any updates good or bad?
I love my LG dishwasher but the wifi stuff doesnt seem worth all the permissions and stuff
Thanks for making this video, one question I had was what grit of sandpaper were you using? I would think that the grit is more important than the throw length.
TEXANS BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!! READ ALL! I had the opportunity to see the ins and out of this company and they are the epitome of “snakey salesman”. They are from California and they claim to have 5 star yelp reviews well they do have 5 star Yelp reviews but what they fail to tell you when they are showing you this on their little IPads is they cut off the bottom of the “5 star rating” to not show you that they only have 2 reviews. How’s does a 40 year company only have 2 reviews you ask? Oh thats because the original company in California does NOT have 5 Star and far from it. The company also carries a C rating with the BBB and is not accredited. This company is selling you a “MINERAL WATER” system. It simply changes tap water to mineral water and does nothing to prevent scale build up or hardness in water. They tell you that it makes “cleaning” easier but you will still have water spots and build up. The system that the y charge you $6000 for at the start is about $800 worth of materials and RnD apiece. They are trying to get you on a LIFETIME filters subscription that cost you about $500 a year. So the other $5000 you spend on “the system” is for advertising and commissions to some of the most scummy sales people they could find. They are going to lie to you through out the whole process… tell you R.O. Water is undrinkable (again to add another filter to the price) like distilled water which you CAN drink and while it doesnt have the “minerals” in it that tap water does you get almost all of your mineral intake from foods not the water you drink as the mineral in water is not in a very absorbable form. They also claim that R.O. water will dehydrate you like distilled water neither one of these dehydrate you. It was so crazy0 to me that literally everything they tell you can be easily disproven by a simple google search. If you really want to see the teeth come out early start mentioning Filter costs and filters before they are ready to talk about it and just keep focusing on it. As Texans we should be passing legislation against companies like this moving in and changing their “stats” to try and fit in with the culture we have built of honesty and straightforwardness. I would stay far far away from these types of companies that are just here to capitalize on the growth of our state and its people.
Hi, just wondering how you currently feel about this machine, and more importantly, how did you get it shipped from Taiwan direct? It’s sold at Home Depot USA but not in Canada where I reside…trying to figure how to get it…
I still love it. Like I mentioned it is an occasionally used tool. I ordered it from woodcraft and it shipped directly from Jet (which I believe is typical). I'm not sure it was in a warehouse or from Taiwan. But it took months for it to show up after I ordered it.
@@DIYMark Thanks! For me a drum sander is the most essential tool in the shop. Mine is down and it’s a real pain. Good to know that it will take months to turn up if ordered from Rockler. Might be more practical to drive down to Washington and buy one at Home Depot and customs clear it myself. Think it would fit in the back of a Cherokee with the seats down?
it looks brand new, give us a review in a year or two
I've had it now for 4 years. Couple of things during that time. I replaced the vac hose with one that is more flexible and works better. Also the carb jets are prone to clogging. Each new season I have to take off the carb and shoot it with contact cleaner and compressed air. They seem to get gummed up. Then starts on first pull. I also mentioned the catcher bag in the video. It continues to be irritating.
Nice review. How did your TDS dressing change?
Damn u weigh 145? What are u 4'11?
Save yourselves some potential headaches and just get an 800 series Bosch.
Ujbhjjmbnn
My Canlidi leaf blower was just 14 bugs without battery. My Makita 18V knock off batteries fits perfect. The machine without battery is just two pounds. The brushless motor performs extremely good. Its loud and theres just one speed, but nice to work with this lightweight little monster, fully satified.
Thank you for your insight. Same question I`m asking myself right now. I have been using a Dewalt Machine I bought 10 years ago where I can switch between 3 and 5 mm very easily. Its still running and whenever I`m sanding I use this great feature. First 5mm and then a finish with 3. Its a shame they didn`t keep on going with this sander. However, as you did, I will go with the 5mm Festool but keep my old dewalt D26410
Clever.
thank you. that's very helpful and informational.
Thanks for the thorough, pros and cons review! I agree. Pureagain rates a C from me as well!
