    This set is really begging to be doubled: buy 2 and make the dock have 2 cranes; nearly double the length of the ship so it can hold 4 containers; make the building 12 studs deep with removable levels; have a longer boardwalk; and have a wider beach area.

    6:08 The cluster of buildings shown directly to the left of the crane on that stickered map has already been released: it's 60417 Police Speedboat and Crooks' Hideout. The shapes match perfectly, and the Crooks' Hideout even has the Technic pin-holes on its side for connectivity to this Harbor set. Plus, it works well with the Harbor becauso the Crooks' Hideout is disguised to look like shipping containers! 😊

    To address your concerns at 13:15, the best set to complete the play patterns is the 2017 Cargo Terminal (60169). The trailer beds are compatible with these shipping containers, and the crane truck is exactly what you need to move shipping containers from the Harbor's crane to a truck or train. Perhaps one of the implied sets on the dock map is something similar to 60169?

    I love how your full opinion critical points and all can end up winning me over. The way this is an intersection between multiple spaces, the sea, transport trucks or trains, the town and the beach make it feel like a great starting point for a city that you can rebuild and add to and spread out in multiple directions. Your right that it's a shame the crane is so manual and single use without an implied area to load to a truck that drives under but perhaps that jet sky o ly needed to be delivered as far as the rental place. :)

    Excellent review! At first glance I expected lots of praise for this set: it looks great, and by today's standards it seems pretty great value. Just by the looks of it, I wouldn't have been surprised if this had been a €150 set. But it's not all sunshine, and I think you bring some excellent points about the playability. Seems like this set tried to be a jack of all (or at least several) trades, but a master of none. They really should turn this into a harbour subtheme, with more sets to expand on this.

  • @firionrazar3797
    @firionrazar3797 3 месяца назад +6

    The set that goes well is 60169. The containers can be put in the border slot by crane, picked up by the telehandler and loaded onto truck and trailer. Now I didn't like this set because it seems to be missing pieces. The ships bridge seems unfinished with this open design (since you got access from the top) maybe a little crane on the ship would have been nice, or a bigger ship with 3-4 containers would made more sense without a crane to be a pure container ship. The small cargo storage at the front of the ship is designed for the crate with the 3 fishes. It's not mentioned in the instructions but it's the only place it fits within. Yes, a truck at this price would have been nice. Since I'm saying the set is missing parts: The tavern should be inverted. The small piece that angles the tavern towards the bay should be inverted so the tavern would face the other way, making more room in and on the set. The only part missing would be another chain for the pier area. The tavern roof could have been completed in putting a 2x10 plate instead of the 2x1 piece. Small things that add up.

    As someone who does not like modern lego this seems like a Surprisingly solid set that value wise seems pretty alright too. I do find as things are right now things seem a little cramped. I wonder if it would have been better to have the recreation area as a separate set.

    I'm so glad LEGO are going back to making good city stuff. This set has its clear shortcomings but those sacrifices make sense to bring so much for the price (for lego anyway). The set begs to be finished off but doesn't force you to pay a huge price to play and encourages your creativity.

    I have the set and as I was looking at it above just clicked and realised that what's on the map next to this.☺️ They look nice together, but yeah unfortunately it doesn't gives more help to unload the cargo. Personally, I feel as though the restaurant half of the set could have been replaced with more industrial setting in order to complete the set. Having some kind of truck to load the containers on would have made much more sense so one could transload containers from ship to truck. The restaurant half of the set could have been used as a sort of expansion or addon to the rest of a fully fleshed out sea port set. Either way, I'm sure Lego did their research and kids loved the set the way it was produced and released.
    Great review as always Jang!

    To the north there's a Park (also hinted at in the Sightseeing bus) and there's an unreleased Cargo truck set seen on the Burger Truck's box art which would thematically make sense.

    This reminds me a lot of set 7823 from 1986 that I have, however it takes containers from a train section instead of a ship, but actually goes over a road, so the derrick (although not on wheels) can offload the cargo straight onto a truck. It has A LOT OF CLEARANCE and even has a person operating it. Until I looked up this set that I own on Brickset just now - I had no idea that it was that old - I thought it was about 1992 or 1993. This is how this new crane should have been. It goes side-to-side on a guided rail.
    I love everything else about this new set otherwise.

    I find it interesting that the cargo containers are the same style as the containers from the previous (now retired) cargo train with the loop on top for a crane with a hook. I would think they would have used the newer, current production, cargo train containers that grab the containers from the sides of the top plate.
    It makes me wonder if the next cargo train set will interact with this.

    I like the look of the gantry crane and It's the most realistic choice of crane design for doing container work like this, but I think they maybe should have done a more conventional boom crane that could rotate on its base. this would let it get both containers without moving the ship and reach the areas that the current design couldn't. It could also free up some more space on the dock itself.

    I think they tried to fit to much into one set. If they split up the cargo area and marina/rental + beach, I think they would have been albe to create two sets with more playablity. The cargo area could have gotten a more playable crane with a truck or something else to complete the chain of play. And the marina could have gotten a bigger beach and maybe a larger docking area for a tiny boat (rental or fishing boat). That way both sets could function more on their own and you could ofcourse still connect them.

    • @yuotueb
      @yuotueb 3 месяца назад

      How would a truck complete the chain of play? Where does the truck go next? In this set, the small craft are being delivered to the rental store, so you can play with them all the way from delivery to rental & use... seems like a more complete chain to me.

    This set is still pretty cool and all but my favorite harbor will always be set 7994! Since it including a roadway for trucks to load/offload their cargo to the ship. If they managed to reimagine that set with the crane design from this current one then it would make for a great looking, and more interactive harbor. I think it would have been better for LEGO to focus more on the industrial side for this set and then introduce the tourist side for another set that could be attached onto it.

    I wish the random dude in orange should have medium legs to suggest he's a younger lad we get three different leg sizes. Even saves LEGO a little plastic. Needed to shift the "beach" budget over to the crane to make it longer and able to offload to a truck. Hopefully there are some other sets coming that will complete this, like a police set with a warehouse robbery where they are stealing a truck with similar containers (a cop on a motorcycle so the budget can go the good stuff). The set is so close to being a good solid set.

    The ship feels unfinished and I think a dock like this should be industrial only. The 2006 harbor set was fantastic and would have been a great template for this set. They should’ve doubled the size of the ship, made the crane actually functional, add a truck or maybe even train tracks under the crane, and left the civilian stuff completely out of it. Just my opinions!

    I think it would've been better to have the boat and crane as its own set, and the beach and restaurant as its own set. Or perhaps if the boat was not a cargo ship but a fishing boat, then it would make more sense to have the boat haul the catch to the restaurant.

    I like it! But you are right, the crane is somehow unfinished. It looks nice but lacks a little bit more playability.

    Not sure but the the area for crane to offload looks wide enough (6 studs) to lay some RR track. A train car could back in there and (if there's height clearance) unload on to a RR car.

    One thing that seems to be missing to me - why are the containers not stackable? Of course if you only have two containers there's not much point, but I imagine people would expand the build with more containers.
