    “Its LEGO, we can modify it” is such a great mantra that many LEGO fans need to remember when they complain about kids toys not being 100% how they want it to be.

    • @GreenNinj4
      @GreenNinj4 4 месяца назад +13

      If it was priced accordingly, yes. But everything is that much overpriced, that having to spend MORE money to modify it is absurd and a valid complaint.

      I mean it depends on what the issue is. Because depending on how large an issue is, you either can’t modify it or might as well custom order your own set.

    This set was not on my radar at all… now it is because of this excellent review. I like how the features all come together on this one, like the off-track maneuverability.
    Lego, the company itself, owes a lot to your hard work because of insightful reviews like this one. Thanks Jang

    Thanks Jang.

    they resemble so hard the S-Bahn trains we have in many cities here in germany for 25 years now, which typically cover like up to a 50km-radius around some bigger cities. This feels so nostalgic for me, they were an essential part of my youth, I took them multiple times a week and they opened up a whole world for me since they provided for me the opportunity to get out of my small close minded village and connect with people and culture in the next big city. and the monthly tickets for school students were pretty cheap.

      Yeah, but back then the trains were the main focus and that set came out in conjunction with a separate train station set, just like the previous red high speed train I had as a kid.

    Probably the best means of motorized it would be to build a 4th car that's windowless to contain all the power function parts.

  • @CrazyChemistPL
    @CrazyChemistPL 4 месяца назад +11

    I wonder if the connections between cars would work with 3 module long lifarms instead of 4 module long ones. Plus a slight modification to the platform to have that extendable platforms fit with doors.

    In the late 70's in the night of my birthday my stepdad pulled me from my bed and I was giving my birthday present. It was the 12v red city train (7725).
    This set really reminds of that, and I already like it for that.
    The shape of the front/rear also reminds me of smaller local trains so that's another plus.

  • @kentslocum

    LEGO has done passenger trains, streetcars, and trolleys before, but I'm going to call this a lightrail. It's more like a train than a streetcar.

    • @M0torsagmannen
      @M0torsagmannen 4 месяца назад +3

      streetcars should have had the floor lower towards the ground imo, so that only a very slight curb elevation is needed to make it level. so this does give a light rail vibe more for me as well.
      it is pretty close though so not too bad

    From what I recall, the reason the couplings are as long as they are is because they take into account wiggling lines. Such as track that are not just one congruent curve. It was found on the most recent hogwarts express the train did well on most curves but derailed on wiggling ones.

  • @scribeyesteak8758

    I think this would work well with just one or two more cars in the middle of the train to give it a bit of length - it looks like those parts are easily sourced from B&P rather than getting a second copy of the set. the design is really clean and simple but effective, and I share your delight in the way the platform expands out. This is a really solid set and I think it would actually look nice with a simple shelf city display. I know this one is a bit late, but a fine review as always, Jang.

    For this price the set is great, you got a platform, full train and some figs. Kids can just go ahead and play both driving it and on platform life. Unlike most train sets with a tiny bit of platform. Granted it is powered but double the price. This is affordable looks good and kids will love it.

    The only issue with this set is it does not look good motorised, you can see the battery box and it does not look good at all. Im thinking of getting the transparent black windows as replacement to see if that looks better with hiding the battery box. Its still a great set though, so good I will get another.

    I think it is a nice set and priced decently. Sure $79 would have been better, but it could realistically go on sale for that price. I definitely would want to power this and Jang had a good idea with using a vertical medium motor on one side in the center car. I would shorten the spaces between the cars and perhaps use this as a point to point railway, like a shuttle. Really, the only gripe I have with this, is the seating. Just two seats per car?!? If I could get that up to at least four, then that would be great. @Jang Great review, as always!

    Good set, considering the intende audience I think it looks pretty cool! It does need a significant discount though. Not so much because of how overpriced it is, but more so because the motorized trains are continuously heavily discounted, and as a result just don't cost that much more. And I mean, if I had to choose between this for €90, or the 60377 passenger train for €110, I know which one I'd get.

    Good review of quite a nice-looking set.
    I winced as soon as I saw those gaps between the carriages, but I get the practical reason that made them necessary. In an ideal world, I'd want something approximating the movable plates in real life that allow you to walk between carriages (or even stand there), but I don't imagine that could be done without some completely new pieces, and maybe wouldn't be possible even then given the limited scale of these. Presumably for on-carpet play the turning radius could be partly sacrificed by using a shorter connection that would reduce the gap?
    I had absolutely no idea that was supposed to be a firefighter! He just looks like a dude with a fancy leather jacket to me.

    I still think all Lego trains should be $99.99 or under regardless of inflation. And include a motor at that price point. As nice as the freight train looks, it is way overpriced to me.
    This one looks more like an elevated Tram, design wise to me. Or airport shuttle. I'm on the fence about it.
    The coupling is a big yikes. I totally missed that on first glance. I'd pay $50 for this train (without a station), given all the problems I see with it and it needing a moc upgrade.
