- Where have I been you ask? Renovating the cabin of course! My kitchen cabin-ette project took a lot longer than expected, but I think the results were worth the effort. I turn an old junk kitchen counter into a rustic cabin showcase.

I'm very impressed Slim on the total package here building the cabinet. You are very good at planning. There's no perfect l'm sure you were surprised a time or two. Absolutely love the use of recycled materials from the cabin itself...you've given life to good materials ordinarily thrown out or burned. The value goes further as that wood aged in this environment. It's rich prefinish patina can't be purchased at a box store. The rest speaks for itself...it's really craft art which is in sync with the philosophy you weave into every video you make. Even in restoring a derelict cabin one can make multiple important statements and contributions. If one of your life's goals was to leave this world one day better than you found it....well you have shown us how one guy celebrates having a life worth living.

My great uncle passed two weeks ago, and he was terrific woodworker, just as you appear to be. He redid his entire house over the years and his handiwork will remain with that place for long, LONG time. Loved this one, Slim!

The perfect piece isn't always the easiest and seldom the cheapest. This is, however, the perfect piece for that space! You never cease to amaze me with your ingenuity. Some say "I don't know how to do that" while Slim says "I'll just have to figure out how to do that."
My Dad was a carpenter and he taught us how to make things with our hands, sometimes preserving craftsmanship and turning a board into a beautiful and functional thing is worth more than the money you may spend or save. When I work with wood and with the skills he gave me, I know we're still connected.

Folks sometimes forget that re-use is even better than recycle and you did both here. Nice job on the build - I like the way you extended it to put the drawer section in. Good tip about checking the square of the cabinet, too. If you don’t need a full-sized fridge and stove some recycled RV propane units might work for you. There’s a place in NS that reconditions and sells them or they come up on Kijiji privately sometimes, too. Just a thought, you probably have that figured out already. 👍🏻

I LIKE it! It looks really good, very sturdy, practical, fit's the cabin perfectly. I especially like the narrow shelves across the top of the back splash area, perfect for all the small stuff needed in a kitchen. And....there's plenty of room for a small sink in front of the window, don't need anything more than a hot plate or induction type unit for cooking and the curtained area is perfect for a small fridge. Nicely done!

I am 4”10’ and don’t weight that much so I have developed strategies for most everything I do. To move anything heavy I use a moving cloth, the kind that we use when we are moving to a new place, a thick heavy one. I put the object to be moved on it and slide it. When I lift things I lift in increments, usually with ladders or something at each end. I renovated my own house that way. It definitely takes a bit longer and a bit more organizing but my back is still good. Hope this will save yours.
I am impressed. It looks good and is much stronger than anything you could buy for twice the price. I am glad you grain matched the cabinet front. I have seen many that were not.
