    Hi Lee,
    I think your video is brilliant, and very professionally put together. Having worked on the development of the XJR6 at Jaguar for several years, I'm very biased, but your enthusiasm for the model really comes across. This video really is an excellent advert for the car and what can be achieved with a few thoughtful modifications. I look forward to getting lots more enquiries for reprogrammed ECUs, exhaust manifold specifications and rose-jointed drop links.

    That's a really lovely car especially as it looks so original and standard.
    Those wheels are one of the nicest designs ever to be done by Jaguar I reckon and I'm glad you retained them,
    it wouldn't have looked as good with anything else. Great job.

      Thank you very much. And yes the aim has always been to keep the car looking like it just left the showroom. I think Jaguar got the look just right, and I love the wheels especially with the 255 tyres on, the car just sits so well on them.

    I'm feeling like a bit of an interloper here, in that I have an XJRV8. Like you, I was looking for a 6, but couldn't find a good one. But it came up with a lot of good kit on it and at a very good price. Auto box though, of course.
    And it HAD been fine, until about 5 months ago when it developed a electronic fault which nobody seems able to fix. It's beyond frustrating, as you can imagine.
    But yours is a great example. And I prefer the wheels on yours too!
    Great vid too

      Interlopers always welcome here! Hope you get your fault fixed one day, that's the only thing with the later cars, they are crammed with electronics compared to these sixes which are positively agricultural by comparison. I've always said the V8s are nicer but the sixes are the better car.

    Yes - More XJR6 content please!
    Like most XJR6 owners i have been contemplating a manual conversion since the auto robs it of so much power, but i must admit the auto does have its charms and suits the character of the car for day to day driving, so its a difficult choice to make considering the costs involved, and difficulty of sourcing the parts outside of the UK.
    And i'm all too familiar with the difficulty of choosing the perfect compromise between handling and refinement.
    I actually went back to stock droplinks from the rose jointed ones after a couple of months, since the roads over here are too rough, and the added harshness and vibration kind of took away some of the reasons i fell in love with the car in the first place.
    it did sharpen the handling though, so had i lived in a place with smoother roads i would probably have kept them.
    Meatier rear anti roll bar was a great upgrade though, so that will be staying.
    powerhouse pulley, timing bracket and Bosch pump also essential.
    i am currently in the process of shimming the rack bushes, but man is it hard to get those bastards in properly.

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  2 года назад

      Yeah those shims were a bugger to fit. Also agree it's important to not lose sight of why you like the xjr6 in the first place and also the type of driving you'll be doing with the car. For me there are pros and cons of manual conversion, and those are amplified if you go further and convert to single mass flywheel, you are trading a relaxing effortless drive for a lot more involvement/engagement and of course better access to all that torque - but there are times when the manual is not welcome, like being stuck in traffic for example. I do like the Autos still, but I see them as a totally different car with a totally different character. I was going to suggest you try one first but if you are not in the UK I imagine you'd struggle to find one?

    • @bjarneanmarkrud8187
      @bjarneanmarkrud8187 2 года назад +1

      @@leeevernden yeah, as far as i know there are no manuals in my country, but i might be wrong.
      since i live in a big city i get stuck in traffic a lot, but i also just have my car as a hobby car, not as a daily, so a manual does make sense for the driving involvement when out on good roads.
      But then i would probably start missing the effortless cruising around town...
      i guess i'll probably do it if a reasonable manual conversion donor shows up, but ii'm not in too much of a hurry.

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  2 года назад +1

      @@bjarneanmarkrud8187 Yeah a lot to think about there. And wise to take your time, my advice would be to look for a whole car as a donor. I have heard of a guy in the UK that bought a conversion kit from someone only to find out the hard way that the kit had been removed from a banger racer, so was all beat up and missing a couple of gears, it was total scrap. If you get a donor car you know the history of the gearbox. I was lucky and found a 60k mile 3.2 xj6 so everything was like new. I used that stuff to first convert a 4.0 xj6 and then later moved everything again to the R.

    You're a man of excellent taste. I always felt like the XJR6 was the last real Jag before the Ford V8s went in. Having a big supercharged I6 always made me feel as though the car is the modern era equivalent of an old Bentley blower. I can remember reading about these cars as an 11-12 year old boy, there was a lovely article in Road & Track magazine here in the USA. I would love to have one to this day. Being in the USA just finding a nice looking car would be difficult and the fact that these cars have a 4L80e transmission I would likely take advantage of that fact and swap an aluminum LS engine into one if the I6 was tired or needed more work than would be economically feasible here being as Jag I6 experts and modifications are so scarce here. I would probably do at least an aluminum 5.3 and add a blower or a budget turbo system just because it's so relatively easy and cheap to make nearly limitless power so long as you have access to e85 fuel, on our highest grade gasoline 600hp at the wheels is completely doable on 70% ethanol one can make nearly 1000hp if they have a properly prepared engine with adequate ring gap, fuel system, ECU and electronic waste gate control in order to precisely control the timing and slowly raise the boost before hitting the engine with heavy boost past the peak cylinder pressure in the mid range where peak torque is generally generated. I can't think of a better package for a wild turbo American V8 than one of these gorgeous cars. 1000hp would be completely unnecessary, I would think somewhere between 600 and 800hp to the wheels would be more than adequate to get the point across and have limitless pull at triple digit speeds on the open highways during a pull against even modern factory stock performance cars. These are certainly an automobile of impeccable taste that would certainly catch the eye of an attractive women to bring with you on a spirited cruise. Thanks for sharing your beautiful car. My name Lee as well, Lee Henderson.

    Lovely Jag well modded, but reckon those tubular manifolds should be heat wrapped, seeing how they glowed up on the rollers.
    Wonder if it could be running lean after the supercharger upgrades and a bit of remapping needed.

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Matthew, yes the manifolds could be wrapped but I've chosen instead to protect the ps hoses nearby for now, I don't have Aircon on the car at the moment so that frees up most bits on that side of the engine bay. I think if I ever get round to recommissioning the AC I'll have to do something with the manifolds. For the supercharger mods, I have a AFR gauge in the car so I can keep an eye on how the engine is fuelling at all times and it's pretty spot on tbh. The mods don't really increase peak boost or anything, it's more about bringing that in sooner in the rev range and maintaining good efficiency even at higher rpms, whereas the standard gen3 M90 would be dropping off massively at higher RPMs and the engine would have to adjust fuelling more to compensate for that. If however I decided to one day fit a m112 or even a TVS then I would need a different map or ECU and an upgraded fuel system.

Your answered the rest in your video of what works best so thank you for that. What calipers are you running? There’s been a debate on the forums as to what calipers can be retrofitted to the xjr6. Interesting that Jaguar used the same setup as the NA x300 given the big power difference.

      @leeevernden  2 года назад +1

      Thank you very much! It's funny you mention Simply Performance as my car was the test mule for their big brake kit which is the one in the video, I think they do 2 sizes, mine is the one that fits with the 17s - 330mm front discs, all the others are 350mm and above and only fit if you fit bigger wheels. Swallows are a really great contact too for anything manual related, when they did the SMF conversion on mine they also replaced the rubber linkage bushes with solid brass inserts, this gives a lovely positive engagement when slotting into gear, and the way it revs with a light flywheel is great.

      I have a X308 Supercharged LWB for 3 years now, and after 2 years I started using the J-Gear on a daily basis.
      As a result of that 6 months later I needed to change my rear wheel bearings..
      I love how U can brake with a manual, and have full control over the revs, and the J-Gate also kinda offers this option.
      And it really gives me better handling when going into corners when I am in a Sport mood, but also makes me use my brake less.
      Is there any other car brand that has something equal to the J-gate(2-3-4 in a row),...in a Super Sedan, or is the MB 5G-Tronic manual mode even better and easier ?
      I also noticed on my X308 ,driving it daily mostly in urban, that it requires 1 or 2 full accelerations 0-100Km every week , to keep the engine clean of dirt.
      What really makes the XJ special is how low they are build, this creates a unique driving experience that no other brand offers.

I have toyed with the idea of uprating the roll bars to the point of purchasing the XJRS dogbone to allow for the rear roll bar to be installed on suspension drop. May I ask what rear roll bar brand you got and where? Also, is that headliner non-standard grey Alcantara? Have you considered fitting Andy Stodart's "Andy Bracket" for the VR timing sensor pickup?

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  2 года назад +2

      Thanks. The rear ARB is the ultra racing upgrade for the x100 xk, part number in the pinned comment. Be aware with these that you most likely won't find any in stock anywhere, they are all made to order in Malaysia, mine took 3 months to arrive and that was pre-covid. The headliner is foam backed faux suede technically but looks and feels like alcantara. I just bought some material and re-trimmed the factory headliner board once I'd got all the standard fabric, foam and glue off.
      The Andy Bracket is the best bang for buck upgrade for these cars, but I don't have one as Andy programmed my ECU, so part of the programming adds in the ignition advance normally done by the bracket hence why I don't have one.

    Hi Lee,
    Is the jury in on cold air inlets? I’ve never been much impressed. How is the intake noise inside the cabin?
    Thanks
    John

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  Год назад

      With the standard airbox you don't get intake noise at all if you have tubular manifolds(these drown out the supercharger noise). So I'm very happy with the intake as you can really hear the supercharger now - without that it wouldn't be as exciting to drive.

    • @bjarneanmarkrud8187
      @bjarneanmarkrud8187 Год назад +1

      the original intake has proven to be quite restrictive, so there are a couple of dyno charts around proving the cold air intake helps a lot on these cars. the water to air intercooler should also help keep the intake temp at a reasonable level even with a so called "hot air intake" installed ;)

      Thanks David. Excellent combination by the way, pretty sure manual 4.0 sport is even rarer than an XJR manual but could be wrong. The headlining is actually 'foam backed faux suede headliner material' but it looks and feels great. I got the material from Ebay and re-trimmed the original headliner board. I got some samples first and by luck managed to find pretty much an exact colour match for my grey interior. Word of warning though, it doesn't stretch as much as regular headliner fabric so you need to be mindful of that during installation on the board to avoid creasing. Very chuffed with it though.

    Great video. Tried to do this some years ago with the only XJR6 manual in NZ that was very shabby. Was going to transfer into a much tidier XJR6 auto but was put off by the electronic issues of the auto to manual conversion. Did you have much trouble with this?

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Tony. And no I didn't have any issues with the electronics as I know a guy that preps these cars for racing, so he knows which 3 or 4 pins on the ECU to ground so that the car starts and runs properly. I've no doubt that companies like swallows racing also will know which wires/signals to ground. I actually ran my previous manual swapped XJ on the auto ECU for a couple of years without issue before I got rid of that car. For this one I had the guy that helped develop the XJR6 engine back in the day (Andy Stodart)programme me a manual ECU just to be sure everything will be fine. There is only 1 thing on my car that isn't factory manual spec and that's the wiring loom in the dash(it is different on the auto) - and the only side effect of this is that the gearbox light is always on as the loom is always looking for the Auto box ECU which is no longer there, obvious remedy to that for my car was just to remove that bulb in the dash.

    What about rust? The X305 seems to be a bit better than the X308??? I have looked at several X308 XJR's and was shocked by how rusty they were, particularly the front sills. To get a low rust nice XJR for £2500 sounds great! Very interesting video, thanks for sharing.

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  2 года назад

      Thanks! Yes these do rust as any car of this age will do. But I have heard that oddly the later x308 cars seem to rust more underneath, especially at the rear of the car. I heard one theory on that which is that the x308 diffs don't leak as much oil and therefore don't have as much rust protection on the subframe 🙂, not sure about that but thought it was funny.
      I was lucky with mine, x300/x306 also like to rust but mine still has perfect rear arches which is a common problem area, the trick is to keep them clean as mud holds moisture between the skins and they rot from the inside out, my car was in central London all its life before me so I guess that helps - no mud, no sea salt, I wash the inside lip every time I wash the car which keeps them good. Mine did still have the usual area at the front of the sills though, and whilst this can sometimes look bad it's not that expensive to sort out normally, it is a mud trap area so I do take the arch liners out every now and then for a clean up.

      Thanks Leigh, S-type-R is very underrated I think. On the bushes, yes a greasing would fix them but that would involve a lot of disassembly to grease all the contact points. I can't fault the blitz intake(apart from the anodised blue bits of course). It's very high quality, it's a dry steel filter so it doesn't upset the MAF, and it really makes the supercharger sing. The car does feel faster with it fitted but admittedly that could be a placebo effect as the noise is addictive. I really love it, I wouldn't go back to standard or cotton filter now.

      Best advice is to test drive examples of both cars - the l6 feels like an older and less sophisticated car then the V8, but to me that is a good thing since its got a bit more character.
      I also prefer the interior of the older car.
      The V8 is definitely more powerful than the l6 and it has more gears if you go for the automatic, but the l6 has loads of character and a great sound if you like l6 engines.
