    Thanks Lee. I got the same noise about 3 years ago and thought I'd see how long I can drive it before other issues like oil consumption become noticeable. So far, I've driven around 28k miles and have just completed a 6000 miles Europe trip in June. All systems normal (touch wood) including oil consumption. So needless to say that following this very keenly. Thanks again for a detailed update.

      Thanks Rehan, yes Hartech did say that some of these engines do just make that noise, doesn't always mean there is something wrong so I wouldn't worry too much.

    Just for info, auction companies do not shred or dispose of service history invoices. What is given on entry is handed out to the buyer.

    • @leeevernden
      @leeevernden  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the info, I had heard this was done for GDPR as you'd have all previous owners names and addresses so this made some sense to me, however I can't remember where I heard it now so can't confirm either way. I suppose another explaination might be that the previous owner put the car through auction knowing about the engine issue and didn't want to be traced by a new owner. I guess I'll never know.

      @@leeevernden sadly not Lee, I’ve seen it blacked out, but it’s the dealer or vendor’s responsibility. So whilst it’s semantics it’s not the auction house shredding history. I have worked in the car auction industry for 15 years now.

    Great stuff Lee. I've been keenly watching this series as I'm potentially going to go the same route with my own 996.1. Although as I'm in Australia, I'll need to ship the engine over to Hartech, which I'm not super keen on doing, but there aren't any other options to do it here and LN Engineering/Flat 6 Innovations in the U.S. are completely booked out with lead-times running up to 18 months. Please keep the videos coming!

      If you can get it done you will not regret it. I am lucky to be in the US where Flat 6 innovations is. I waited 18 months from signing the quote to getting my car back however it was well worth it. Car is transformed and it is good to know I shouldn't have to worry about anything for a long time

      @@leeevernden well they do this intentionally. They don't want to get big. They feel the moment they get big the company as it was intended is over. They are extremely personal with their jobs and put a lot into them. It's completely different from Hartech with what they do. It's a lot to explain on here but it was a great experience. The car is only with them for 3 months. The wait time is all before you ship the car. Once it goes there it moves through the stages with photos sent along the way. I don't know a lot about hartech but they sound like a great company too just a different type of business model. But for various reasons they have changed the business to now have long blocks assembled and ready to sell. They then take core exchange for your motor when you get one. Much quicker install. The owner of flat 6 won't sell you a motor If you don't match the kind of customers he wants to work with.

    I have made the Hartech 3.7 M96; I did not say anything about taking advantage of rebuild to address IMS? I ended up doing the Hartech bespoke intermediate shaft to housse the 997.1 bigger IMS in the case with removing seal. Was costly but pretty robust solution. Have you watched the Rennvision video with Lee and Jake discussing their experience and approach. Keep us posted?

    • @leeevernden

      Yes I should have mentioned, everything I went through in this video is on top of the full rebuild and conversion from Hartech which includes relined cylinder block, closed deck, new pistons etc and the larger IMS shaft and bearing from the later Porsches.

      @@marshallsonmotorsltd2101 the manifolds had been replaced just before I bought it. They are stainless tubular ones, I don’t think they are anything special though. One positive was the backboxes were replaced with Porsche ones in 2014 so they are still in really good condition, I’ll keep those and I won’t be doing the resonator delete so I’m relying on the CATs to unleash a tiny bit more sound, and that should do me. I’ve driven a .2 with sports backboxes and resonator delete and the NVH was too much. Also doing the numeric shifter and cables, so I will add some sound deadening during that install to cancel out the added NVH from those cables.

After that it will go back to Hartech for final checks before I get it back. Could even be complete at some point this week if I'm really lucky.
