Thank you for your kind words! ❤️ I've always heard good things about Amazon, and it shows. :)) I have been working at American Express for the past 1.5 years and am content with it. :D
I have been into 7 years now in these kinds of roles. Whatever she had said is correct! Best would be to start with consulting at beginning of career then switch to different role
If u seriously have no attachments or family burdens then why dont u consider migrating to a developed country and start from scratch .....that will be a beautiful idea if u willing to take risk and do hard work for min one year
I'm really fortunate to have escaped danger before paying Lakhs for an MBA. I was so fascinated with the MBA RUclips videos that I decided consulting was the right path for me. After receiving my Btech degree I was put in one of the premier consulting company in TC role. However, after joining, I saw that it's a very messy field. Creating PPTs in a premier consulting firm is not my cup of tea. I would much rather be coming up with real tech solutions in a tech company.

All the best! You need to take a break of at least a week. Get a doctor’s certificate and take this mental leave for yourself. Sleep well for a couple of days. Eat home cooked food. And then make a plan of what you really want to do. As you’ve done so well till now, it’s clear you’re intelligent enough to navigate through this. All the best to break the trap!
This is the true reality. Very good and valid picture you have shown. If you dont enjoy what youre doing then its no point of doing that job. This is true reality of glamourous corporte job. I have deeply suffered from it. It hit me so hard that still now it i am recuperating from it.
I too have been admitted at IIM A. But I am not joining it as I like my tech job. Pays me well without much stress, so don't think it makes much sense. As I am also an IITian, I think I would get opportunities time and again.
In Australia the government has put restrictions of maximum 38 hours/week work for an employee i.e. 8 hours/day, so can MBB Companies can still make you work for 13-14 hours a day in consulting job????
But even there, an employer can request you to work beyond your shift given it is a "reasonable" request. And reasonability is a grey area and everybody wants to be in their manager's good books.
Mostly in our offer letters, it's mentioned that the work hours would around 45hrs but it's far from reality. So I don't think a simple rule can fix the problem. As long as people are willing to work, companies would make them work!
Thanks for your video prachi. All the words said are 100% true. I left my company in 10 months. The work life balance affected me a lot. Their expectation is to work 24*7 and still they want more. I did work from home but i can't have lunch with my family. I am really happy now to leave that company.
I'm in a phase where I'm planning to choose one between Product or Consulting. This video is so informative for me to get authentic answer. Thank you and appreciated 😊
They are like firefighters - you give them a problem and they solve that problem for you. When a company doesn't want to hire an entire department for say X problem - they get consultants!
Bhai jaise ki company ki sale nhi bdh rhi .. uska solution.. log job chor k ja rhe hai iska solution.. profit nhi ho rha... Same price pe sellnkrke b uska solution
Thanks for saying this. This was required for me to quit the job. I was doubting myself. Another thought that comes to my mind is, that if everything other organization (non- management consulting firms) will also be expecting the same amount of work from me. Then that would be my incapability.
You can always define your boundaries but sometimes, it's your job to be on the toes 24*7. Glad I could help take you a decision - evalute your priorities and take action accordingly :)
Kudos to you for speaking truth. Many who work in MBB don't actually tell you this, either because they feel that now they are working in MBB so complaining about it will sound stupid since initially they were dying to join one. Or they just want to tell people what amazing life they are living and make people jealous about that. I personally think you should join a job (if you want to do a job only) where there would be balance of both money and work life balance. Only then you will be truly happy in life. Just money but no time to enjoy it will only make you dipressed and nothing else.
My kinda dream job was to get into consulting. I knew some work that they do as i was preparing myself for it. But after looking at your video and hearing there is only work 24*7 and even on weekends i dont think i will be able to work like robot. Rather not going into it unless there is work life balance. Thank you for making this video.
A female chartered accountant employee 26 yrs old died in EY,couple of days back due to work pressure as you mentioned in the video. Her Non stop work ruined physical and mental health which led to the death of that lady. Her senior ruthlessly put her on duty even during night.. I think Corporate life is horrible after hearing her incident.😢
We can't blame the entire corporate world. But like I mentioned in one of my comments, since childhood we are encouraged to work so hard towards our goals that it becomes really difficult to give up or to even accept that there's something we might not be a good fit for, especially in India, where so many people are ready to take our place. And the pressure to keep going can make us ignore our health, both mental and physical. The hope that things will get easier if we just hang on a bit longer. It's just super important to know when to quit and what to prioritize.
Corporate world should take some responsibility if its work culture is exploitative .. Just because there are people willing to be exploited does not mean that Corporates should exploit them .. Dealing with people with respect and care , should be the culture .. if everyone is expected to be bold and know their limits , then we should not have laws in this country
I am happy to see people like you coming out and helping aspiring college students who are unaware of harsh realities of the corporate world. 1cr salary is actually not worth it if u are gonna end up paying for gastritis or spondylitis at the age of 35-40
This recession has exposed management consultants, as companies dont have money to hire these people anymore. Management consultancy is least respected in the corporate world and is considered a big sham. They rely on business jargon and generalistic rhetorics under the garb of providing practical solutions, and overcharge their clients having no respect for their hard earned money. Their primary aim is to pocket their client's money. Helping them is secondary and not a requirement.
What is the point of earning soo much, when you don’t get time and can’t actually enjoy and spent it. I don’t understand the actual mindset and goal of people working in these corporates. Moreover that’s why we see 90% of vacancies unfilled in these companies. Seniors extract more work from the existing employees as new onboarding is very low.
I worked at Goldman Sachs for a year -left it. joined Mckinsey left in 1.5 years. at last I joined Amazon -same story. Its hard to find a company with a good work life balance.
Thank you so much for insights on other side of the role as we usually tend to get fascinated by watching videos about the fairy tale of consulting roles and dwell in myths. Well said there is no free lunch as such.
Consultant company hire people from IIT , IIM etc who can slog like a rot. After all they cracked CAT and JEE Advance. Since class 9 they are working like a slogger , running behind to deliver 99.9999% of perception of every one. [ if not theirs ] . THERE IS LIFE APART FROM MONEY AND JOB.
I know there are jobs out there which are rewarding in terms of work life balance. But I'm already working 12 hours at a low paying job, i might as well go through mba and get paid 16x over for the same time period.
this is true that everything is extremely hactic but its also true that this is one of the only ways a middle class person can get even close to becoming rich
I experienced similar situations in corporate and decided to quit it on same grounds. I want work life balance and family time at all costs. Thanks for sharing your experience :)
My elder brother is also into management and consulting and has done MBA from sibm Pune , initially he started with vitarka and then got his dream job at Accenture, it's been more than a year he is earning a good amount of money but he is not happy my parents wants him to get married but he is simply not ready for it , I don't know how does he work but all the time he is on his laptop and looks drained out My father has asked him to take a break for 2-3 months from his work but he is not willing to do that too What should I say i mean he was my role model from the school days but now I just don't know I don't want to become like him , he hardly talks to my parents once or twice a week 😢
Hey, I think all your brother would need right now is your support to decide what he wants to do next. Many a times we are stuck at a place but don't want to move on because of family expectations (direct or indirect) or peer comparison. But in the end, it would be your brother's decision only. You can just be there for him :))
But mam pls can you tell that many thinks bcoz everyone tells on youutube that if we do these top consulting jobs for short term so these teach us the business skills and consulting skills that they can use in future for thier own business also so I wanna ask is it necessary to learn these skills to join these consulting job Bcoz if yes then what does the iim teaches in mba 😢 Pls tell me
IIMs teach you how things work theoretically and how you can structure your thoughts/ how should you approach any problem using case studies, etc. But when you actually work on a case, face problems and solve for them - you learn what's feasible and what's not. Especially in consulting where you work on multiple cases in a short span, you learnings increase exponentially.
How can I build a career in consulting companies? My college offers specializations in HR, Marketing, Operations, and Finance, with Business Analytics as a secondary specialization. Which specialization should I choose to build a career in companies like McKinsey & Company?"
One more thing, these are the people who suggest layoffs to companies. They take so much money from companies and ask them to layoff employees to increase returns.
Very well explained, insightful video. I'm planning to do an mba. If my life gonna be like this after spending much time then what's the whole point of living your life like this. You earn to get peace or good livelihood. Our first priority should be physical and mental health
Everything depends on job role , reporting manager, work culture, people around you. If a toxic guy or toxic boss integrates into your team its game over.
1:33 ma'am when you said that you were lacking proper qualifications for product management what did you mean by that? What qualifications are then required for product management
Hey, for prod man - a CS degree or coding experience helps. Apart from that, you can also do some online certifications or participate in ProdMan case competitions if you really want to go into Product Management. Will try to come up with a detailed video on this - so stay tuned! :))

I have one question for you do consultants really solve problems . You scored 99.53 percentile still converted iim Calcutta now people are getting rejected even at 99.99 percentile
Not every solution consultants give is implemented but think about it - if they weren't solving anything in reality why would any company pay loads of money to them? And converting IIMC at 99.53 or getting rejected at 99.99 is totally dependent on your previous profile. My previous academic scores + work-ex + the fact that IIMC gives gender diversity marks helped me get a call.
It's important to understand that the composite score plays a crucial role. For example, my brother, despite scoring a 99.96 percentile, didn't receive a call from IIM Bangalore. If his work experience or academic scores had been slightly lower, he might not have received calls from IIM Ahmedabad or Calcutta either. The selection criteria truly matters!!
@@mbawithprachi right now there are lot of people with almost same accads . There should be more focus on person overall personality for his selection at b school rather than just higher grades GD rounds mein log bolna hi nhi deta .
1. Har field me itna pressure nahi hota hai and 2. Sometimes uplifting your financial status becomes more important or some folks actually do like this work or can handle this lifestyle.

@@mbawithprachi What is product management di & what r the skill requirements and work-life balance in it?
Great prachi such a unfiltered video !! Had experienced same things in IT.
@@mbawithprachi Shouldn't this rule be there in our India so that there is a work life balance in the life of Indians.
Mostly in our offer letters, it's mentioned that the work hours would around 45hrs but it's far from reality. So I don't think a simple rule can fix the problem. As long as people are willing to work, companies would make them work!

I feel it's all about your priorities but one should never blindly follow others - they won't be able to be happy! :(
My kinda dream job was to get into consulting. I knew some work that they do as i was preparing myself for it. But after looking at your video and hearing there is only work 24*7 and even on weekends i dont think i will be able to work like robot. Rather not going into it unless there is work life balance. Thank you for making this video.
The work is definitely good, but comes with it's own challenges :(
A female chartered accountant employee 26 yrs old died in EY,couple of days back due to work pressure as you mentioned in the video.

Capitalism at its peak!

My father has asked him to take a break for 2-3 months from his work but he is not willing to do that too
What should I say i mean he was my role model from the school days but now I just don't know I don't want to become like him , he hardly talks to my parents once or twice a week 😢
Hey, I think all your brother would need right now is your support to decide what he wants to do next. Many a times we are stuck at a place but don't want to move on because of family expectations (direct or indirect) or peer comparison. But in the end, it would be your brother's decision only. You can just be there for him :))

I wanna ask is it necessary to learn these skills to join these consulting job
Bcoz if yes then what does the iim teaches in mba 😢
Pls tell me
IIMs teach you how things work theoretically and how you can structure your thoughts/ how should you approach any problem using case studies, etc. But when you actually work on a case, face problems and solve for them - you learn what's feasible and what's not. Especially in consulting where you work on multiple cases in a short span, you learnings increase exponentially.

@@mbawithprachi do 100 percentilers also get rejected at old IIMs
It's important to understand that the composite score plays a crucial role. For example, my brother, despite scoring a 99.96 percentile, didn't receive a call from IIM Bangalore.
