I don't think there is a more disturbing or harrowing movie about Vietnam out there. At least Oliver Stone, Michael Cimino and Francis Ford Coppola made films which gave you a sense of enjoyable male bonding and occasional action. De Palma prefers to portray the war as nothing less than a grim, ugly experience. This is one of the best movies ever made, and Morricone's score is haunting and moving.

More realistic than this is nearly impossible, since making a documentary about it requires time travelling... And I’m not even getting started on the other aspects that make it an impossibility.

I watched Thin Red line and thought 'interesting plot line, beautiful cinematography, thought provoking'. And when I watched Casualties of War I literally had no other thought than 'oh my God, how could you allow this?'. I haven't seen a war movie since then.

i watched this when i was around 8 yrs old. i cried so hard.. i just watched grand torino and the girl got beat up. reminded me of this movie. i started crying all over again. i can't get this movie out my head! 😢😭😭
I love this movie, so powerful & realistic. I love how it puts these young guys into a moral quagmire & it becomes a struggle for survival & what's really right & wrong in a war zone. Sure everyone in the comfort of their own home says its fucked up but have you ever been in a situation like this where the boundaries of good & evil are so distorted & your confronted about what's really right or wrong where you need to make a life & death decision? War turns good people upside down. I love the ending when he sees the girl on the train trussle & has the flashback while you can hear echoes of the dead soldiers & vietnamese in the background of the score. It gives me chills & makes me think about what's really important in life.

Yes, for me at least. Tae Guk Gi is a very raw and breath taking story, no doubt. And I loved it. Same way i loved many others. But Casualties of War remains the number one for me...Many will say Platoon and Apocalypse Now (which are above excellency) but this one is MY favorite

Michael J Fox was brilliant in this. I never really rated him much but after seeing his performance in this movie my opinion of him chanced.
De palma cast Fox because he was a massive star at the time and basically got the movie made, I agree, his best performance.
He was vulnerable yet at the same time courageous for he did to testify against his fellow Soldiers for what they committed.
