What is Shwachman-Diamond syndrome? Shwachman-Diamond syndrome, or SDS, is a rare genetic condition that primarily affects the bones, pancreas, and bone marrow. Most cases result from alterations in the SBDS gene, which affects the assembly of cell organelles called ribosomes.
