    Psychopaths are very prone to boredom. Having to pack a suitcase, a boring & mundane task, but be excited & engaged doing the death trap engineering actually makes total sense.

      Psychopaths aren't more prone to boredom then anyone else. They are just normal people. The only difference is they don't feel empathy. They can still understand what people are feeling, and are generally well adjusted.

      You are thinking of a sociopath. The pathology is social interaction. Psychopathology is a broken psyche, like Norman Bates, who felt empathy (for his mother)..it's just that he didn't know he was broken.

    • @bookwormkiara5468

      @@TheRealNormanBatesThere is no such thing as "psychopathy" or "sociopathy". Those are no longer accepted terms in the DSM-5. There is only Anti-Social Personality Disorder, and they don't have a "broken psyche". They are not the serial killers from sensationalized movies.

      o5554 Not having empathy is just 1 antisocial trait. Psychopathy is more than that, it's a distinct neurotype. But, to be fair, "psychopath" also has a slang meaning that is very broad, & just means not having things like empathy, shame, or guilt.

    In reality, the suitcase inconsistency made perfect sense for me. As a kid, I hated doing anything my parents asked me and would make it way more difficult than it needed to be. But that didn't mean I couldn't be very clever and industrious when left to my own devices.

    • @coolioso808
      @coolioso808 4 месяца назад +9

      There is that funny aversion as a kid to do anything that might be considered a 'chore' that your parents ask you to do. I felt it too. I wonder if reverse psychology would work? Like Mom saying: "Definitely don't wash the dishes, fold your laundry or tidy up the house! Don't do it! Go play video games all day, but don't stop to put away your dishes or anything."
      I feel that would probably fail, too. It's just pulling teeth to get most kids to do chores, isn't it?

      I'm a grown ass-man ( darn you, xkcd ) with ADHD, some form of autism and depression. I find it extremely hard to just get up and do the simplest things but I can spend hours diving into completely irrelevant plans in detail, making spreadsheets and presumably optimizing death traps made from toys. Not packing his shit felt like the most relatable thing.

      That is why you have a big family so if you do lose one or two it's eh, we got more. I kid!
      Also, while I was in Iraq I was talking to the head of a big local family and I asked why a lot of the people in his country have very big families. He explained to me that their kids are going to be the ones that take care of the parents when they become elderly. Therefore, you have a large family so if a few are duds then you can count on the responsible and successful children to be able to take care of you when you are elderly. Not sure if it is the reason for all big families but I always enjoyed that story. Also, also, not super relevant but I figured I'd share. Merry Christmas! 🙃

      My wife does the same. But the thing is that there are plot holes and there are situations where you must suspend disbelief. Home Alone requires the suspension of disbelief to imagine all of these things occurring so the movie can happen. Not difficult since it is pretty much a live action cartoon anyway, the Tom & Jerry slapstick violent kind of cartoon. But then there are real plot holes where a movie breaks its own rules.

It's great because in this instance it truly is baffling how far the writer expected suspension of disbelief to take them. It's kind of like a Leo Vader video in that way, where instead of hitting every note, you hyperfixate on this one inexplicable point of how the movie functions and just keep shining a light on it and forcing the audience to stare into the abyss. It's just lovely.

  • @ExtraMichael
    @ExtraMichael 5 месяцев назад +19

    1. This is a top five pitch meeting for me, and the one I’m most likely to send someone who’s never heard of the channel.
    2. The “Left alone wife cheating” bit is by far my favorite of the offscreen character development type bits you’ve ever done. I’m typically not a fan of the jokes that pretend to go into the characters lives outside of the room, and I prefer when the pitch meeting just starts immediately with the movie. but this one absolutely kills me. 🤣
    3. I would go farther in the Christmas defense of this movie, and say that it absolutely could not function without being a Christmas movie - both plot wise (everyone else needed to be out of town on the street, the flights had to all be booked, etc. Removing all of these elements would basically make the movie 45 minutes, more of just a long sketch where somehow a kid is alone when burglars come) but more importantly, thematically: the purpose and message of the movie is entirely based around the true spirit of Christmas being family. Everything with the old man neighbor, Kevin‘s one wish being to see his family again, both families reuniting together at the same time, etc.
    IMO, saying this movie could work without being a Christmas movie would be like saying that Christmas Vacation could just be about a family reunion at a different time of year… Is it literally possible? Sure. But it would be a fundamentally different movie on all levels. (compared to say Die Hard, which I absolutely love, but could be made without Christmas with a few pretty inconsequential changes).

    My only issue with gatekeeping Christmas movies is that the Die Hard thing really began as kind of a joke, being ironic, and then gained so much momentum it got way too overblown. Plus, Lethal Weapon is just as much a Christmas movie as Die Hard, yet gets largely ignored, which kind of emphasizes that it's not really that people care about Die Hard being considered a Christmas movie, but the meme-ness of it.
