- Cycling to Masham, North Yorkshire, then over the hills to Ripon visiting 2 historic chapels
This bike ride video is a tweaked and extended version of a cycling video I did a few years back on my hybrid bike. It begins in the village of Melmerby, North Yorkshire, just off the A1 (take the A61 turn towards Ripon, but take the Masham road) and takes you through pretty country lanes to the beautiful historic village of Snape with its part-ruined castle and spooky chapel (Snape castle chapel was built in the 15th century by the Neville family). We stop off to check out the chapel (of St Mary).
We move on to cycle to the market town of Masham, famous for its two breweries - Theaksons and Black Sheep - before heading up via the Swinton Estate and Swinton Park (“castle”) onto the high hills, bordering on moorland. We then descend via a couple of pretty villages to Ripon where we explore the exterior of Ripon cathedral, then explore the interior of The Chapel of St Mary Magdalen, a “lepers chapel” or “hospital”. We then gradually cycle along country lanes back to Melmerby, criss-crossing old railway lines and learning about some unusual historic facts along the way!

Really interesting. Naughty Dean. Much appreciated, it must be hard work talking as well as riding but I think it's a big improvement to the videos. 👏👏👏
It's quite fun, really. The hard work is editing the videos, then processing them, uploading to RUclips then waiting for RUclips to process them and make them HD! I tend to do all the processing and uploading overnight - it takes hours and hours!!!!
The cycle route from Riccall to York (solar path) is just getting re surfaced 15 miles long into York
It's ages since I did that ride.
