Thanks for the video, Ryan. I've learned a lot from you. I'm always amazed by how much knowledge people are willing to share for free, and how much time they're willing to put into the video production. Your vids are excellent, and you have amazing skills.
Wow thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words..
A great look at the best of what you use and why! An excellent vid on leather tools and supplies. Thanks!
Thank you thank you thank you. Love the informative videos.
O’s fan?! Woohoo!! Great, informative video!
I agree 100% rotary cutter is by far the best for cutting lengths of leather, and I own expensive leather knives. 98% of the time I grab the rotary cutter
Yup!
Thank you very much sir, you are my "Maha Guru" for me, you are "Bhattara Girinata" in leather bussiness for me.You are So full of great ispiration and not conceited. May almightyGOD bless you more hugest bussiness success.
Thanks!
@@LittleKingGoods You are Welcome, GBU
Thank you for this video
Thank you so much for doing this video. Seeing what others use is soooo valuable! Give us a tour of how you've organized your workshop next please
Very Helpful. Please keep making these awesome videos!
Very informative and much respect! Thanks keep up the good work
I didn't know which of your videos to comment on. Each one is as good or better than the last, so I just pointed and clicked and here I am and I am impressed! You have a beautiful craft that you can be so proud of and that you can hand down to your sons, proudly. I would be proud to own one of your bags. Have you ever worked with soft leather or done any brain tanning? My family have a good friend who took my oldest son under his wing and taught him how to brain tan. In fact, he did some of the leather for the movie "Dances With Wolves". I had to chuckle when you mentioned Tandy leather because to a brain tanner, Tandy leather (chemically done) is sacrilege. However, I'm not as die hard as my son was and our friend is. You do beautiful work, however you do it and I would be so proud to own one of your pieces.
From start to finish, your presentation is perfect in every piece you create and even more than that, you value family time and that's the icing on the cake, my friend. You see, I lost my son in a tragic car accident three years ago so your words did not fall on deaf ears nor were they taken lightly. You're an ace in my books and I wish you amazing success in your outstanding work.
Blessings,
Naomi
Simply inspirational, thank you for the amazing content, working to one day have a workshop like yours.
great video! thanks for sharing!
Nice, thanks, Ryan!
Ryan you’re so amazing and helpful ! 🧡
nice & useful !
Agree about the Olfa. 100%. Not cheap, but works wonderful, esp. on oil and chrome tan. Otherwise I use the head knife.
thank you for sharing, very helpful.
Thanks so much!
I love your music choice. Chillhop will be in my next videos for sure.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Thanks for the tool tour...
Very helpful, thank you.
The bags in the background are awesome!
This was great! Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you so much for posting this !! Need more vids like this for sure . Great work !!! 🙏🏼
Boss 🥰 your work is so beautiful ❤️আপনার কাজগুলো খুবই সুন্দর।

What about your workbench top?
Thank you for sharing 🙏
You’ve inspired me. Thank you!
Ohh tools here thank u v much 👏👏👏✨
You can get the edge paint dober tubes at Maker Leather Supply.
Hey .... Got it 🤗.
Thank you so much.😊 For all the information.
You are 🤗🙏🏻.
Enjoyed this video Ryan,
Thanks Terrick! Loving your videos too!
Good tips. Man I wish I could make bags like that for my wife! That's cool.
nice bro i love every video you make
If you need a custom die, either clicker style or mallet, I found a place in Alvarado TX.
Texas Custom Die. They also sell 12 ton presses, I don’t own one (too much for pocket book) but I like their dies and punches. Plus they offer sharpening of your dies
Thx. Really appreciate sharing so much info. What thread size (especially the Maine thread) do you use? 0.040“?
Buen trabajo amigo
Thank you for the detailed information
Greetings. Is there a less expensive sewing machine that you would suggest for a beginner? Thanks so much for the videos. You have definitely inspired me to get into leather.
Techsew has great affordable machines. Or look for used ones.
Thank you !!!!
Hi, love your video! Can you please remind me which blade you are using with the Vergez knife? Also, which size John James needles do you recommend for saddle stitching - a size that will not get stuck in the stitching holes? Mahalo!
Very interesting! Thanks for the input.
One question: You are sometimes using a soldering iron or something like that for the ends of the thread.
What kind is it? Is it a portable one with a battery? Thanks and many greetings from Germany!
Hey! It's called Thread Zap II. I got it from Amazon.
Useful information, thanks!
Hey Ryan. Great vid.
Checked out the pricking irons at KS what size would you recommend for general purpose .
I do wallets belts and bags. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I personally use 4mm spacing. I really like it. I think it's a great spacing. I know many crafters who use that spacing too.
Thanks you. Placing the order and will give you all the credit for my order
Love you channel. I really get inspired by your work as well as your enthusiasm. My name is Eddie and i am from South Africa. Non of the products are available here. Can you assist? Advice? I am also a beginner and currently doing hand stitching. Inherited a old sowing machine. Can you maybe do a video on how to start using a sowing machine for the firs-time beginners?
I am a Graphic Designer here in Mexico, for the last 18 years of my lfe.. I love what I do... but I have the feeling that I need a more "hands on" job.
Leatherworking videos are my drug right now, and had been for some 2 years.
Need your advice ...How profitable was your buisnes at the begining? would you recomend some one like me to start spending on tools and equipment to change his carrier?
here in my town there are not a lot of leather workers mainly because the principal state that produces leather is far away in the country.
Thanks for the videos!
The leather life is a hustle man. Not gonna lie. Its competitive. Don't go into this expecting to make money. If you enjoy making things then do it and see how it goes. You can upgrade tools a you go.
@@LittleKingGoods it's all about finding the right outlets and channeling, like about anything else that is hand crafted or even in the writer's field like I am. There are those who would pay just about anything for a hand crafted bag such as yours but finding them takes time and lots of patience. Twenty years ago I paid almost $100.00 for a simple hand bag with short handles. It was an American Angel so I was paying for the name but I can only imagine what they cost now.
Have you considered hand crafting boots, sandals etc.? The sky's the limit to what you can do with your expertise.
Such a useful video. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!I also wanted to buy the palo alto bevelers for making wallets..Which sizes do you recommend?
Thanks! I use #2
Man, this was is a great video. I've got a small business that caters to the Military, Law Enforcement and shooting community. I make mostly belts out of nylon webbing, but have been getting requests for some leather civilian belts. I love the look of your stuff and your videos are entertaining and informative. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey Ryan. Great video. I've got the little brother of your sewing machine right now and am still working out the learning curve. Though I do see alot of potential in it. I saw you had a burnishing drum on a drill press. How well do you find that works out? I've been considering doing the same.
Thanks!
Oh sweet! Yea I am still learning my machine too. Yea the drum burnisher on a drill press is a really cheap alternative than a burnisher from cobra or weaver. Although those ones have a sanding drum on them too. My setup works well for what I need it for.
Awesome. I guess il be getting one soon.
I found out about you from the Peter McKinnon video and I have really enjoyed checking out your RUclips and IG. I don't know anything about making things out of leather, but your videos are incredibly enjoyable to watch. Also, your products are so sick. And you're a Baltimore Orioles fan?!
Thanks for the info :) ! Still watching your amazing work from France! Keep going!!
Thanks for sharing. What brand is that drill press you are standing in front of? That’s my next purchase.
What size pricking irons would be best for a beginner looking to buy one set to begin with?
Hey Jane, we sell 4mm pricking irons on our supply site that we use and recommend.
littlekingsupplyco.com/collections/pricking-irons/products/pricking-irons-set-of-3
You are amazing.. Is it your main job or do you do this as a side job? It is really amazing!
This is my full time gig!
Great videos, learning a lot from them! One tool you use a lot is a little bent hand file to shave off the finished side of your leather pieces before gluing, which makes complete sense to me, but can't find it anywhere?
Dale Aston it’s called edge beveler #2 you can find them on eBay or amazon
Where do you order your leather bro
I see a lot of people use that brush you used as a way of applying edge dye and then some people use an edge dye roller. Is there an advantage to the brush? What should I search when looking for it?
The foam brush works best with the contact cement I use. I don't dye leather with it.
Good morning Ryan, great video, I wonder what kind of paint marker you use for the edges. I think is very accurate and easy to use. Thank you.
www.jacksonsart.com/en-ca/montana-acrylic-empty-marker-15mm?___store=jacksonsart_ca&gclid=CjwKCAjw5pPnBRBJEiwAULZKvo2QmxHMiI-KtPSr22zqlCHlzl3jhqty14jLtMDV1CuH-o4bizUTLhoCl-4QAvD_BwE
What type of dye do you use for your edges? I just bought an edge dye marker but I’m worried my current leather dye is too thick to flow into the nib.
Where do you get your dies done?
Do you ever use edge paint, or just edge dyes, and if so, which ones? I presume you can't use the markers with edge paint, or can you?
What’s the circle pad you use for applying edges and what’s the marker that you also use for edge dye
That japanese knife looks like an Okadatools knife I love them!
What size JJ needle and which thread size in this video? Thanks, love your stuff.
How can i get the stamps made or custom buckles
Where do you get your metal pattern dies from?
Hey man did you self teach yourself everything with your crafting ?
Ah! You have this video. I was wondering!
Where does a noob buy leather to mess around with? Is there a local hide shop or do you source online?
Try Acadia leather. They are in Maine.
I’d love your opinion on conditioners. I’ve been using Leather Honey for everything and have nearer heard of Smith’s. How do they compare?
Hi. Thank you very much for your video! Very instructive, useful and professional. Can you tell me which is the surface of your work bench? Greetings from Argentina
www.stahls.ca/self-healing-cutting-mat
Hey Ryan - I'm a tiny-wristed female and wonder if you have any tips on hand-sewing? Know any tools or items I should use until I can afford all the doodads in this vid? Much thanks. I can only hope to achieve your level of talent! BTW do you know if the Juki machine could sew shoe leather pieces?
I think this is the video, the refillable marker is made by Montana-Cans (Montana Empty Acrylic Markers)
Tippmann Industrial makes quality clicker dies at very reasonable price without a minimal order.
Doesnt tippman make airsoft stuff?
@@kinangeagle133 yes, yes they do! Tippmann 98 is a classic
My pricking irons get stuck on the leather EVERY, SINGLE, TIME...kinda frustrating, do you put oil or something on it ??
You can stick them in some bees wax first before you use them on the leather.
Nicely produced video! What thread weight do you use on your bobbin versus top thread in the Juki. I have a 1541 clone and for handbags I plan to use Tex 70 in bobbin and Tex 90 in top. I’m a newbie with this machine and have tensions properly adjusted but feel that I should be getting more separation or gaps in my top stitches (bottom seems better). Any tips on thread weight and needle size and needle point choice would make a great future video! Thanks again - Sandy
Hey Sandy! I use the same thickness thread in the top and bottom. I use size 92 thread with a size 18 or 20 needle. Seems to work well for me!
Thanks Ryan! I really didn’t want to have to go up to 138.
If you are looking at the L’indespensible knife, DO Not get the Vergas Blade, it will not hold an edge and it must be sharpened on delivery. Get the Chartmade blade upgrade, or better yet. Get yourself a TINA blade (Germany), there are TINA resellers on the web.
Hi Ryan, what is that white board do you use for cutting mat ?
Hey Hey! Yea I have a big cutting mat that I purchase from Stahls Canada. It's nice and thick.
Hey, what is that tool called that you use to melt the string when you finish sewing? I don’t do leatherwork but I use similar thread for something else.
Alina Stepanenko it’s called thread zapp ii
What about the edge paint pen that you use?
Tashana McDonald Jackson’s Art supply www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/montana-acrylic-markers-empty-pens-tips
I know this video is 2 year olds but I’ll love to know where you bought your cookie cutter that you have in you background on the white board. I need something similar for my wallet but I don’t know where to start.
I looked up tina blade, I did not expect the results
I know! 🤦🏻♂️ Sorry about that.
@@LittleKingGoods I'm dying :'D might you have a link so I can still find it? Or the name of the company that makes these blades? I've been wanting to buy the knife, but aparently the blade that comes with it isn't very liked by multiple reviewers. is Tina the name of the steel? or the name of the way the blade is made? :) Anyways thank you! I love watching your video's with my cat :D
found it in one of your insta posts; for anyone looking --> Tina blade from Rocky Mountain leather or one of Buzzard Brain Leather's blades. Better known on google as Tine HSS blade :)
Do you know the weight of your mallet ?
Did you go through Simards for the skiving machine? How was the experience?
Yea I went through Simards. There are a few people there. They weren't too experienced to tell you the truth. They know how to fix the machines but not how to use them.
What is the series of the sewing machine ?
Hey I love this channel! I need some help. I need some ideas for a leather tool box for my work bench. Easy access to tools. Right now I’m using an old tackle box. It’s overflowing! Lol. No Bueno. Can you help?
Wood you tell me where to order those Die Patterns.? Thanks
Hello, great video!:) what leathers do you usually use for smaller goods like wallets and watchstraps? And which thickness? I find the common 1.2mm gets kind of chunky on the walletinterior:(
Daniel
I use 3-4 ounce. If it gets chunky maybe step down to 2-3 ounce and skive inside pockets to reduce the bulk. Hope this helps!
Hey Daniel! I use mostly 3-4 ounce leather for my wallets. I don't make watch straps but I'd probably use 3-4.
Can you advice me from where i can buy this all?
Thank you
Peter McKinnon sent me and I like it
How does Tokonole compare to fiebing's gum trag?
Tokonole is a total game changer. I'd never use gum trag again. Gum is messy and smells weird. Tokonole shines up so gorgeously.
Thanks for the cool video! I’m not a big fan of the olfa rotary cutter, it doesn’t have a protection on top, and once I didn’t pay attention I held the cutter by the blade confusing it for a utility knife 💀💀💀 That thing is collecting dust now
Have you ever tried the brown or black Tokonole?
Hey man! No I haven't. Always wanted to know how good it works though!
Thanks for sharing this video!! There is one thing I really want to know is that...what’s the pen you use for the edge coat? Plz let me know~ thanks again:-)
Looks like a chisel-tip squeeze marker. I have no idea about the liquid he's using!
How i wish for those tools and machines.... 😔
Honestly, instead of using a rotary cutter, just use a pizza cutter. It works nice too.
What is the differences between tokonole and regular gum trag?
Tokonole is a billion times better. Leaves a nicer clear shiney finish. You can pretty much burnish any type of leather.
i long for a review for this press machine so bad!
Бро, возьми в ученики!!!👍😀🖖
Karam.p.v. 😂
Thanks for the great video. Bell knife, as in a skiver? Or do you mean round knife, also called a head knife? I love KS pricking iron, nice small holes. Does the bell skiver work well on veg tan? I was told they are made for chrome tan and won’t work with veg tan. That’s what the guy selling them told me.🤷🏻♂️
You are right! It's a head knife. I said bell knife. Must have had the skiver in my head! Haha
The bell skiver works well on any leather. Just used it today on some 10 ounce bridle. Just keep the blade sharp!
Where do you buy your thread?
