I was going to point out that little brush with pop culture, tfios movie, but I seem to recall that John was actually pretty unhappy for a while after that because of all of the new and unfamiliar people suddenly jumping into what was previously a rather small and private affair
I honestly cried at Tom Scott's video, and this one had my heart in my throat too. Both John and Tom Scott have earned a lot of goodwill over the years, and while it's bittersweet, they feel like part of the family at this point so there's a sense (at least for me) that I'm glad they're taking care of themselves and prioritizing themselves going into 2024
It's easy to lose perspective when it's just your life. He's right when you compare it to truly huge channels but I would suggest that success goes deeper than view counts. They are incredibly successful in all of the ways that actually matter
The idea that they're not successful implies an unuseful and arguably warped definition of the word "success". They literally expanded access to TB treatment!
This is such a note on perspective. When you’re big you’re always aware of who’s bigger, who’s biggest. I’m sure Mr Beast goes to sleep wishing he was Tom Cruise, or whatever.
I mean, y'all might not be at the "center" of RUclips, but it might be more accurate to say you're part of the "foundation" of RUclips. You guys set a tone that has been carried forward into all manner of new genre of content, helped pioneer the Educational space in RUclips, created a basic "Explainer" template, and *founded VidCon*. The culture of modern day RUclips is more than a little rooted in the example you've been setting for 17 years now.
this is so real. also, part of the popularization of the vlog format! kinda blows my mind how many youtubers i watch have the brothers as an influence, say dooblydoo (ik that’s a weezy waiter thing but maybe they watched him too!). also like, this might be a stretch but i bet a lot of the ppl who popularized booktok read johns books, like who couldn’t fall in love with reading after those. also!!! johns books were influential in the (imo) goofy discourse on men writing women in ya (idk i kinda get some of their problems but when someone says the books romanticize manic pixie dream girls they missed the point by a mile). with all that said, i bet they’re just blinded by the mr beasts and pewdiepies of the world, which i don’t blame them. plus it doesn’t feel like they’re the type to brag haha. it’s cool it hasn’t gotten to their heads too much. edit: the discourse about men writing women is valid and important, i just cringe when john is dragged in. there are so many worse and damaging examples.
Took the words right out of my keyboard! These guys were probably the first consistently uploaded and watched long form content I had the joy of watching on RUclips. I've also been watching RUclips since its launch. I'm also still a sucker for a good Aslan quote. Thanks for letting me become old along side you both!
You’re not old, guys. You’re responsible adults, and we desperately need more of these in the conversation right now. Take weeks as you need, but we also need you. Thank you.
Tom Scott basically saying he has no life outside of work made me really sad for him. I'd rather all my favorite creatives stop making any output that I can enjoy if that means they are living their lives happily and healthily. I would be thankful for what they'd already given me and hope the best for them going forward.
I think often my favorite RUclipsrs, like the Greens and Tom Scott, are the ones who are willing to be transparent about when they know they can’t always produce content but they know their community will always be there for them because they never compromise their integrity.
Interesting how Tom Scott and John retired their upload schedules after 10+ years within a few days of each other (albeit that John's "maybe I'll sometimes skip a week" apporach is very different from Tom's hiatus)
I love the Dad joke. I love that you made it. I really love that you were instantly embarrassed about having made it. And most of all, I love that you decided to leave it in for us. You could have cut it, but you didn't. Thank you.
"Yeah, that tracks. I'm just happy to be on the road with these brothers." That really resonated. I have been in nerdfighteria for a long time, since 2010ish. There have been plenty of videos that I did not watch, but I'm always happy to see your content appear. Nerdfighteria is so much bigger than just these videos. It brought a sense of community and the freedom to be unapolegetically nerdy at times. Thank you for all these years of not only videos, but also books, events, and enthousiastic tomfoolery.
I think I speak for most of us OG's: We care more about Hank and John (or John and Hank, depending on Mars stuff) than we do about Vlogbrothers. Will always be happy to see you on our screens and in feeds and whatever, but will never hold it against you when we don't.
I was just standing in my kitchen a few measly minutes ago singing Auld Lang Syne with you, John, while weeping and swaying and remembering the people I’ve lost. Especially my dad. After the video ended, in the two seconds of silence before the after video ad began, I had only one thought: I’m so grateful for John Green. It always bums me out to hear about your mental health struggles, because it feels like some great injustice. I’ve struggled with mental health issues since my early teens, and in those darkest hours your videos and books meant the world to me. In a way, I guess, you’re my Emily Dickinson. Always reminding me that hope exists and will continue to exist wether I have any or not. At 27, almost 28, I’ve been a part of this community for over 13 years and will continue to be here until the videos and books stop coming. Whatever form and schedule they evolve into, I will always be grateful for them. All of that rambling mess to say: Thank you for being here. You might not have the biggest channel with the most views or subscribers, but for so many of us you and Hank are infinitely important.
As another who's dealt with those challenges, you words resonated with me. John has been a fellow traveler I can look to, which has made things more bearable. Having a community here of empathetic, like-minded--as in helping humanity, people is grounding, as well. I hope in the coming year we can all have access to the care and caring we need to deal with the grab bag of adventures that mental health issues can be. And, may we all get to enjoy more opportunities to help this world be a little better. 💜🌎🌌🤗🍀🕊️
I am always in support of people taking time off when they need it. However, I would like to mention that I have appreciated the way you have done that in 2023, i.e. by making a community post letting us know there won’t be a video. Just so we know you’re alive and nothing catastrophic has happened! Makes me feel better.
Why would we leave just because you're taking care of yourself? Nerdfighteria are here because we care about you and Hank and our community as a whole and everyone in it. What's special is the connection, and that can't happen in the same way when you aren't whole.
RUclips might decide to stop reminding us when he uploads. I was shocked to hear Tom Scott uploaded once a week. It's going to take me some time to catch up with my fellow masker in crowds
I'm not going to deny that I like that there are regular Vlogbrothers videos almost every Tuesday and Friday, but I certainly don't feel like we have a right to expect it and be disappointed when it doesn't happen. Whatever's best for you and Hank is absolutely fine by me.
Also worth noting that if we tried to hold John and Hank to unrealistic goals, that would undoubtedly drive down their desire to keep recording, an activity they don’t have a need for but rather a want for. So setting that expectation of regular videos and holding them accountable to it would surely result less videos over the long run, not more. All of that not even mentioned they’ve fostered a community of respect, the LEAST we owe them in return is reciprocated respect. Like you say, whatever is best for them is good with me
There are times you need to tend your own garden, John, as you know. You also know how much your work is loved here and elsewhere. We'll be here for Vlogbrothers whenever you guys are up for uploading.
Either Tom Scott did this, or 2024 is just a year of breaking illusionary obligations. And after all this time, rightfully so. Thank you for all the honest banter and hope to see you again soon💕
"I like that there are so many lovely people on the other side of the camera lense. How do they fit all of you in there". That was such a good joke, and it landed perfectly. 10/10 would laugh again.
I'm 18 years old, 19 next month, and honestly you guys have helped me in school so many times with Crash Couse, then I discovered SciShow and it's been great learning so much from that too. Following you guys on TikTok, Twitter, and RUclips stuff has been great. I'm glad you're still around making videos. Thank you for all that you've done for us, and I'm very glad to have joined Nerdfighteria. Happy New Year everyone!
Vlogbrothers videos like this make me the happiest- not to say they don’t all make me happy, but something about squeezing in dad jokes amongst a very honest and straightforward video just makes me smile. Happy 17th, John and Hank!
I don't know if you're ever going to read this, but I've been watching you and Hank for all my adolescence and adult life, and you've felt more like family to me than most of the people with whom I share DNA. Thank you for helping me grow up, and teaching me so much ❤
I am so grateful to have found Nerdfighteria in 2023, and so grateful to be celebrating my first birthday as a nerdfighter! Your work is such a genuine standout among a sea of overstimulation, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be here for the long run. - Lottie
Lottie we'll be glad to have you for as long as you want to stay. Thanks for being here with us!

I realised recently that at this point in time, RUclips has now the existed the entire lifespan of a generation of cats. A lot happens over the time of a cat's life and never before have we documented them in such detail. When it began, they were all kittens and we laughed at their startles and odd habits but as they grew we had to learn more about their needs and how they wanted to live their lives (mainly that they were hungry or were being unsure whether to stay in or go out). But although it can be harder and less of an instant buzz, we don't regret that they aren't kittens anymore, we love what they've become and what new things they learnt to do.
As a cat lover with a cat who's been around going on 15 years, this analogy is spot on. It does seem like the time, though it's passed quickly, has been so full memories and learning. My only hope hope is for more years to enjoy and cherish. 💜🌎✌️😸🕊️
I’m really proud of you for not feeling like you need to get our permission to make this change! I guess after 17 years, when after every time asking “can I have more time to myself” and us all going “YES PLEASE BE GOOD TO YOURSELF” we all get the picture now 😂
I dont think many people understand the connection nerdfighters have to this channel, and to you, Hank and John. I was 12 when this channel started and I've grown up being shaped by your profound and insightful ... and, at times, hilariously weird ... content. And, I feel like I am so much better off because of it. From crash course to giraffe love ... I've learned so much, seen so much, experienced so many thoughts from places. I truly feel that I view the world, and myself in it, through vlogbrothers-tinted glasses... and I couldn't be more happy about it. Thank you for another year
I've been here with all of you for almost 16 years. Y'all were the first channel I subscribed to, ever. My youngest daughter came home from school, at 8 years old, and told me about a channel she wanted to watch on RUclips. One of her friends told her about John and Hank. She was young, so of course I had to check out this thing called RUclips And Brotherhood 2.0. But I'm the one that's dedicated to watching now that she's 25. Thanks to everyone here, my dtr graduated high school with a 4.7 GPA, received a full ride scholarship plus living expenses. In 2021 she graduated with a BS in Chemistry, in 2022 she graduated with a BS in Biology. All while working at UPS at night, and school everyday. She slept 3 hours a day and on the weekend. UPS paid her cash instead of her tuition and books, since her scholarship covered all that. Now she's going to complete her Physician Assistant with absolutely no debt! Thank you, Nerdfighteria, for showing my dtr it's ok to be smart. It's ok to think outside the box. That you don't have to be popular to be cool. That expanding your mind and learning new things are fun. My dtr is now the first, on both sides of her family, to graduate with a BS. I'm 55, and was an LPN for almost 30 years before becoming disabled. Her Dad had been a welder since 1988. But seeing she's not going to struggle paycheck to paycheck, like we did years ago, is 100% because of John and Hank and Nerdfighteria. Thank you all!
This genuinely brought tears to my eyes! What a wonderful sentiment, and what a wonderful parent you must be to your daughter! Congratulations to her on graduating!
Congratulations! I know what it's like to see your children go beyond their roots. John and Hank have been key in that for my kids, as well, especially in their examples of how to be human beings. This community is a big part of that, too. 💜✊🌎🌌🍀
Age is relative. At just shy of 62yrs old, I introduced my kids (23 and 20) to the Vlog bothers and nerd fighters. Reevaluating what, when and how we do things is part of the continuum of being alive. Reprioritizing is also part of the process. Life teaches us these lessons, wether we want them or not, and sometimes in a manner not to our liking or convenience. In many cultures it’s called wisdom, and you sir have had the privilege to obtain a bit more than most at a younger age than most. Thank you for inspiring a new generation to think beyond themselves and to understand the strength in community. Cheers!
The privilege has been ours. Vlogbrothers is like a cat that’s always there, no matter what else life throws at you. I think older cats are entitled to nap more often.
I had to share this after commenting it. The Green brothers guided me through my late teens/20s with compassion and videos about lifes lessons and their thoughts on them. I daresay at this point theyre more parental figures than my literal parents are
We didnt let you do this. You gave yourself the agency to do this, even if you had 0 viewers for 17 years, you could still be doing this. Never sell short your own agency in the way you live your life, even with mental health each and every day you show up is you choosing to do that day. You allowed us to be a part of your life, and how much of that you show us and when is 100% your choice and we are just happy to have that honor.
John, post when you can. You own your own time, not the "100,000 people" who watch you. I discovered you through SciShow a few years ago and am only disappointed I didn't know about the two of you and Nerdfighteria sooner. You're all a beacon of hope in a sea of darkness, and I'm proud to join your ranks.
Yes please take more annual leave, it is very common where I'm from to take 5-6 weeks leave a year from your job. Also you guys are the only channel where I still watch every single video without fail so I imagine a fair few of us will stick around no matter what the upload schedule!
Ahaha right?? These guys guided me through my 20s with compassion and sharing their thoughts on life. I dare say they feel more like my parental figures than my literal parents did
@@jadersanctem they've been uncle Hank and uncle John to me for years now. I don't know what kind of person I would be without their influence. It's been more than half my life at this point.... Oof there's another lil crisis..
I’m older than you are and so grateful for you and Hank and your RUclips content for many reasons, but the top 3 are: 1. Keeping me (and undoubtedly others) sane during the height of COVID hibernation. 2. Keeping me sane as I live with New Daily Persistent Headache and fibromyalgia, which have derailed my life but given me lots of time for RUclips. 3. Always providing thought-provoking content, whether educational, personal, or action-inspiring via your many charitable endeavors. And John, I’m personally very grateful for you sharing your mental health struggles and journey.
You're the center of the version of RUclips that makes me feel like I belong to something good, makes me okay with being human and therefore weird, and makes me hopeful rather than perpetually cynical. Thank you for all you do. 💜
I’ve only been here for 10 years but the absolute highlight was meeting Hank and John at Vidcon and telling John that my dogs are named Hazel and Alaska after his book characters because they changed my life and he said “wow that’s a big deal. Give hazel and Alaska my love” I was shaking and I cried when I left because I was so happy! Hank and a John mean the WORLD to me
I haven’t been around for long, but I also feel so lucky to have found this community! I’m grateful that this lasted 17 years otherwise I would’ve missed it. Happy New Year Nerdfighteria! DFTBA
I felt like I was late to the party when I started watching in 2013, but now that feels like forever ago. In 10 years you may still be watching and wondering where the time went haha
Disagree, John, the "how do they fit all of you in there?" was an excellent joke. I love this community and the things we build together. I hope we get to keep doing it for as long as it is awesome and fun and good.
I remember in 2009 when i started watching vlog brothers and feeling like this was an ancient and established community that i was so new to and on the outside of. Now I have been watching vlog brothers for 15 years and I get at least the majority of the in jokes (some i was there for but have forgotten). I started watching when I saw 13, desperately searching to be part of something and needing someone to look up to. And now I'm approaching 30, an adult watching how we've all grown up here and how much better off I am for it. We all deserve a week off sometimes! Thank you for all youve done John, on those weeks off dont worry about us, we can look after each other x
John, you and your brother remain one of the few people to remain down-to-earth on this platform especially considering how long y'all have been on RUclips. Thank you both for that.
Thank you for giving us the building blocks to build up this community, and for all the work you’ve done alongside us to make it an amazing place to make friends, enact change, laugh, and learn. I grew up here. I’ll never be able to put into words how much this community has meant to me. There’s nowhere else I’d rather have been. Thank you for all you’ve done to create and maintain it. Take whatever time and space you need. Nerdfightaria isn’t going anywhere any time soon. We’ll keep the home fires burning, and there will be some Diet Dr. Pepper waiting for you in the fridge when you get back. DFTBA, everyone. I’m glad you’re here. 💙 For auld lang syne We'll drink a cup of kindness yet For the sake of auld lang syne
Thank you for having included us in your conversations and reduced world suck for all those years. Yall have been in my life for over half of it, and Im a better person for being around here. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
A few years ago I was in a moment of mourning my fleeting youth, dreading the inevitability of old age, and looking at photos of friends who had passed on when it hit me. All of us get to be young. Theres nothing special about that. Youth is as common as dirt. Only some of us get to be old. Thats the thing to treasure.
I think you guys are an integral part of the RUclips experience. Not jus that but like a real, eternal part of pop culture. I feel like the magnitude of it is so crazy to me, as a more recent fan
This month marks 1 year of being a Nerdfighter for me, and I love that you guys have been creating content for so long and trying to take care of yourselves, too! Happy New Year!
re: nerdfighteria sticking around - As someone who has been watching you guys since. 2009? 2010? Since I was 14 (I am now 28). Sure there are all these other creators who make cool stuff and put out a ton of content. I watch them too! But this? This is my home base. In the vast wilderness that RUclips has become, this channel and nerdfighteria as a whole is my cozy starter log cabin that I will always return to. So yeah. That’s why. You have made a home in this weird beautiful hellscape, and now you can do your damndest to evict me but I ain’t leaving. A week off here or there? Easy. I’ll still be here.
I, too, was around before Insta, RUclips, iPhones, cellphones, internet... it's remarkable how much has changed in a short time, sometimes even for the better. Glad to be a part of your "realm," plus i like dad jokes. Thanks for being you. Take care of yourself - make videos when you want to make videos, not due to obligation! I'll be happy when you post. PS - I'm also not old.
Whatever digital existence I have on the Internet has been fundamentally shaped and bordered by these 17 years of Vlogbrothers and Nerdfighteria. Though I am much more of a passive viewer than many, it has meant so much to me to have witnessed it all from the very earliest days. Thank you!
Thank you for everything, Green Brothers! You were such a huge part of my upbringing and internet youth. I’m not as “into” internet life as I once was, but I so enjoy your videos still and staying connected with this OG generation of RUclipsrs. ♥️
I disappeared for a little while because of my OWN mental health issues, and then I just felt such absolute JOY to see that you were still making videos and I had a place to return to. Something that couldn't be said for other communities. So keep on doing what you're doing, take the rest you need. And we'll see you when we see you =)
Thanks John and Hank!! You have both made me, my life, and the whole world, better in so many ways. I’m grateful always for vlogbrothers and all the incredible/silly/kind that came out of it.
I completely understand, respect and support your decision, and please do not change it. But I also want to share that "losing" the consistency of both you and Tom Scott, two people who helped me in dark times, in a single week -- that kinda sucks. I completely understand that writing this comment is in some ways selfish (I struggled quite a bit with how to word it, especially because I lack your skill in expressing myself clearly and kindly), so I hope you'll read it in a friendly way, as a comment apprechiating your work, and affirming your achievements and importance in my life -- even though I know I'll never play a role of equal importance in yours. That's alright with me, I'm content to ride along with you, as someone quitely sitting in the back of the bus that is nerdfighteria and this RUclips channel. I love the stuff Hank and you make, I love how you being open about your own mental health struggles helped with mine, and so the least I can do is support your decision. So, do take the breaks you need, and the ones you deserve, and like Tom Scott, I know you'll be around, so it won't be bad. It just won't be the same, and that's fine. Things change. Honestly, maybe, just like Tom Scott, you and Hank should give yourself a montage with all the cool stuff you've done over the past 17 years, because it's been a ride. Although, something tells me you'd be less excited about strapping yourself to a helicopter and flying into the sunset. I would love to see it, though.
I've been watching you guys since 2008, and I want to thank you for all the humor, reassurance, and wisdom you have shared with all of us. i often tell my husband that I belong to the church of DFTBA. It's funny because I know you, John, went to seminary. I look forward to hearing you on Tuesdays. It seems to me you did use your training from seminary, but used it in a wonderful world-wide way to made the world a better place. Hank brings his own smart, goofy, and interesting posts that I look forward to for completely different reasons. Nerdfighteria stays together because we have such great leaders, who are both inspiring and broken, like all of us. We just keep trying to be awesome. Everyone deserves time off sometimes. Just know that we all love you both, and hope you stay with us as long as you can.
This is my 10th year being a nerdfighter and I have loved being along for this journey with two brothers on the internet. Your works and community have comforted me and inspired me through so much. Thank you John and Hank, and happy new year!
I go to an engineering college. One of my professors once asked “who does your generation care about?” The Green brothers were the first people mentioned and everyone in the room knew you from somewhere whether they’d read y’alls books, or studied for AP exams using crash course videos or were subscribed to this channel or one of the countless other ways you have touched the public. I know a bunch of engineers and scientists is not an accurate representation of the population, but I think a nontrivial percentage of my generation (gen z) grew up with you in our lives in one way or another. You may not be at the center of RUclips culture, but you’ve certainly influenced the culture of a small engineering school’s campus and I’m endlessly grateful for it.
Honestly, if I hadn't checked out your videos all those years ago at the recommendation of a friend, I might not have been exposed to a lot of ideas, not started watching a lot of channels from that, and not meet the people I call my friends or even be the person I am today. Thanks for being such a positive presence on this crazy internet thing.
It's been wonderful following your RUclips journey. Hope for many more updates, but when you're done you're done - I get that! :) Happy new year, everyone!
Bro, I'm an old man now. I was in middle school when I started watching you guys. I would watch every video on a regular basis, as part of my daily internet click through. Back in the day when you would have a list of websites you would frequent, and check them all when you got home to see the updates. I would go from cracked to homestarrunner to new grounds to RUclips, and check out everything all my favorite internet people were making. And now I go to reddit and follow links. The interne has changed. And I no longer come here every week to see the updates in your lives, but I do follow all the business Ventures, and listen to the podcast on occasion. I am an old man that doesn't have the time to check in on internet people regularly, and sometimes I feel bad about that. Because I feel like I'm an important part of these communities that I once felt a part of. I feel like I am needed in these spaces, to show support, and to click on the things in the doobly doos to make sure these communities that are still around can manage to stay around. But also I don't have the time or energy anymore. If I don't have the time or energy to find my way to you, and if I feel like an old man on the internet being in my early 30s, absolutely take a break in whatever way you feel necessary. You have changed my life in so many ways for the better, from thinking differently about internet discourse to caring about people in third world countries. And all I have been able to give in return is the occasional thumbs up on a screen, and about 13 bucks a month for some socks. I was a middle school student with dreams of being a burnt out travellings hippie when I found you two, and now I'm a 4th grade English teacher. Part of that decision is from watching you two decide to make educational videos. Please, for and from all of us, do everything and anything you need in order to live your own life, and understand how much you deserve a break. You have made a huge impact on the world, and more specifically my life. Really wish I could return that favor more.
Just want to say that I came in to this community on the day Accio Deathly Hallows made the front page of RUclips. I've laughed a lot with you guys and I've become a more sensitive and aware human being with you as well. Just saying thank you.
These brothers are LITERALLY one of the better things to happen to humanity in the later years. They just ooze goodness, fun and wholesomeness. They make so many people; happier, smarter, kinder and calmer. All the time. The combined positivity they have put into the world is beyond words.
This month will mark my 12th year of being a nerdfighter. I'm so grateful to be on this road with you from ostentatious hotel rooms to the woods of Indianapolis to the UN and everywhere in between. Happy 17 years.
"We've never gotten close to the center of youtuber culture," says John Green, to his brother Hank Green, the founders of vidcon.
😂
Beat me to it. :D
My exact thought when he said that.
Nobody talks about VidCon anymore. It was big for a couple years, that’s it.
I was going to point out that little brush with pop culture, tfios movie, but I seem to recall that John was actually pretty unhappy for a while after that because of all of the new and unfamiliar people suddenly jumping into what was previously a rather small and private affair
To me, you ARE the center of youtuber culture xxx

Seeing this I thought “wait LOUISE knows John and Hank??” so I have no idea what that says about anything. 😂💗
Thanks for being here with us! -John
thank you actually
No place I’d rather be 💖
Thank you! Of course we'll stick around.
Thank you John!
Thank you John! Happy New Year!
After crying while watching Tom Scott's goodbye-to-ten-years-of-this video yesterday, I'm just relieved John generally intends to upload.
It's easier for John to keep (mostly) uploading than to harness himself to a helicopter and fly off into the sunset!
Tom's video was surprisingly emotional, wasn't it? Nice to see that side of him.
And of course, Tom is still making Lateral, and other projects!
Tom describing how he had no personal life beyond video creation made me sad though. I'm really glad he's going to take some time for himself finally.
I honestly cried at Tom Scott's video, and this one had my heart in my throat too. Both John and Tom Scott have earned a lot of goodwill over the years, and while it's bittersweet, they feel like part of the family at this point so there's a sense (at least for me) that I'm glad they're taking care of themselves and prioritizing themselves going into 2024
“we’ve never gotten THAT successful” is an insane thing to say, john
Depends on how you measure success I guess.
"not that successful" he says, knowing at least a quarter of his 3.7 million subscribers have his face burned into their childhood memories
You guys set a tone that has been carried forward into all manner of new genre of content, helped pioneer the Educational space in RUclips, created a basic "Explainer" template, and *founded VidCon*. this is so real. also, part of the popularization of the vlog format! kinda blows my mind how many youtubers i watch have the brothers as an influence, say dooblydoo (ik that’s a weezy waiter thing but maybe they watched him too!). also like, this might be a stretch but i bet a lot of the ppl who popularized booktok read johns books, like who couldn’t fall in love with reading after those. also!!! johns books were influential in the (imo) goofy discourse on men writing women in ya (idk i kinda get some of their problems but when someone says the books romanticize manic pixie dream girls they missed the point by a mile).
with all that said, i bet they’re just blinded by the mr beasts and pewdiepies of the world, which i don’t blame them. plus it doesn’t feel like they’re the type to brag haha. it’s cool it hasn’t gotten to their heads too much.
edit: the discourse about men writing women is valid and important, i just cringe when john is dragged in. there are so many worse and damaging examples.
And it's not an exaggeration to say that most American(at the very least) people who have been in school within the last 7 years know who you are
#AGREED #TRUTH
🤯 HOW DIFFERENT RUclips would without the #VlogBrothers Influence & the Nerdfighter Community?
🖖💝🖖
Gotta set the tone 😉
Took the words right out of my keyboard! These guys were probably the first consistently uploaded and watched long form content I had the joy of watching on RUclips. I've also been watching RUclips since its launch. I'm also still a sucker for a good Aslan quote. Thanks for letting me become old along side you both!
Can we get an update on whether John is still not an octopus? It might have changed.
+
Not having seen that video, I definitely expected to follow-up sentence to be "and then 3 years later I did it again just to double check" xD
Agreed, one data point is not enough for a conclusion
+
+
You’re not old, guys. You’re responsible adults, and we desperately need more of these in the conversation right now. Take weeks as you need, but we also need you. Thank you.
+
“we’ve never gotten THAT successful” you took over the entire front page of RUclips!!! Yearly!! I remember!
you remember yearly wow that must suck. and also that's a good point.
Nerdfighter nerdfigher nerdfigher nerdfigher nerdfigher nerdfigher -- Mike Huckabee
Tom Scott basically saying he has no life outside of work made me really sad for him. I'd rather all my favorite creatives stop making any output that I can enjoy if that means they are living their lives happily and healthily. I would be thankful for what they'd already given me and hope the best for them going forward.
I saw that too
If more of my favorite RUclipsrs were to take more time for themselves, I might actually have a life outside of RUclips too!
"Do not cite the deep magic to me, I was there when it was written!" is a line I absolutely have to start using.
Yes, it's a fantastic line! It's from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe if you're curious about the reference 😊
"How do they fit all of you in there?" totally activated my child-like wonder mind and I loved it. Please keep making jokes like that.
I love the Dad joke.
I love that you made it.
I really love that you were instantly embarrassed about having made it.
And most of all, I love that you decided to leave it in for us.
You could have cut it, but you didn't.
Thank you.
I second this! 👍😁🥰
+
First Tom Scott, now vlogbrothers. Old guard is stepping back
I just thought this same exact thing. But I have a feeling Tom is going to be a lot less present than the Green brothers.
thought the same, watched both videos back to back
"Yeah, that tracks. I'm just happy to be on the road with these brothers."
That really resonated.
I love you for making the Mars joke. Man, that brought me back. 😂
Very much YES
Who the Eff is Hank?

+ 💙💙💙
As another who's dealt with those challenges, you words resonated with me. John has been a fellow traveler I can look to, which has made things more bearable.
Having a community here of empathetic, like-minded--as in helping humanity, people is grounding, as well.
I hope in the coming year we can all have access to the care and caring we need to deal with the grab bag of adventures that mental health issues can be. And, may we all get to enjoy more opportunities to help this world be a little better. 💜🌎🌌🤗🍀🕊️
❤

@therabbithat I'm pretty sure the bell button makes sure you do get notified
+
Like you say, whatever is best for them is good with me
Okay, but that joke about the camera lens is absolutely top tier. Thank you for being here and being you.
Hello
There are times you need to tend your own garden, John, as you know. You also know how much your work is loved here and elsewhere. We'll be here for Vlogbrothers whenever you guys are up for uploading.

Either Tom Scott did this, or 2024 is just a year of breaking illusionary obligations. And after all this time, rightfully so.
Thank you for all the honest banter and hope to see you again soon💕
wow i LOVE this -- "Breaking illusionary obligations." This is gonna be my mantra for the year
I’m so glad that John and Hank, like TomScott are going to take the time to look after themselves ❤
"I like that there are so many lovely people on the other side of the camera lense. How do they fit all of you in there". That was such a good joke, and it landed perfectly. 10/10 would laugh again.
For what’s it worth, I loved the dad joke.

This video is 22 seconds over the old limit. Just imagine how many of those bangers we have missed in the edit.

- Lottie
thank you for joining us 🎉
We're so happy you're here, Lottie! Happy Nerdfighter Birthday!
Congrats! You have a phenomenal grasp on language for a one-year-old.

So proud to part of this community since 2015. Heres to John and Hank’s 17 years on RUclips.
I've only been watching since about 2017, so I'm still a newbie, still learning the ropes. DBFTA! 😉
Thank you for another year
💙 So glad to be here with you! This community of people are all so amazing to be beside. DFTBA
Beautifully said!!
💙💙💙 so glad you’re here with us. so happy for you and for your daughter
Thank you for sharing your family's story! 💖 And Congratulations! 🎊 👏
This genuinely brought tears to my eyes! What a wonderful sentiment, and what a wonderful parent you must be to your daughter! Congratulations to her on graduating!
So beautiful 💙
Cheers!
Hello are you a RUclipsr
Hello
The privilege has been ours. Vlogbrothers is like a cat that’s always there, no matter what else life throws at you. I think older cats are entitled to nap more often.
I had to share this after commenting it. The Green brothers guided me through my late teens/20s with compassion and videos about lifes lessons and their thoughts on them. I daresay at this point theyre more parental figures than my literal parents are
I know what you mean but you ARE the centre of RUclips culture to me. The gooey chocolate centre!!
I’m so grateful for this little corner of the internet. Take a week off when you need to John, we’ll be here.
Hello are you a RUclipsr
John & Hank are legitimately national treasures 💙💙💙
Yes please take more annual leave, it is very common where I'm from to take 5-6 weeks leave a year from your job. Also you guys are the only channel where I still watch every single video without fail so I imagine a fair few of us will stick around no matter what the upload schedule!
I LOVE your username! 🤣
Excuse me while I have a panic attack in elder nerdfighter. I can't believe I've been watching you guys for about 16 years. What a ride ❤
I’m older than you are and so grateful for you and Hank and your RUclips content for many reasons, but the top 3 are:
💙 glad to share this space with you! DFTBA
You're the center of the version of RUclips that makes me feel like I belong to something good, makes me okay with being human and therefore weird, and makes me hopeful rather than perpetually cynical. Thank you for all you do. 💜
John, you're a well experienced young person!
DFTBA
lol me too

I felt like I was late to the party when I started watching in 2013, but now that feels like forever ago. In 10 years you may still be watching and wondering where the time went haha
++ and welcome!
It's a PRIVILEGE for the Nerdfighter Community to Have you❤🙏THANK YOU JOHN & HANK💯
John, you and your brother remain one of the few people to remain down-to-earth on this platform especially considering how long y'all have been on RUclips. Thank you both for that.
You're welcome, yet I feel like we are the ones who should be thanking you two.
We love you John, thank you for all you’ve done over all of these years to help so many people
i was four days old when john uploaded his first video.
Oh dang. I didn't realize until now I've been watching y'all over half my life. (16 out of 30 years!)
I have been with you guys since 2009! We are all growing old together!
For auld lang syne
We'll drink a cup of kindness yet
For the sake of auld lang syne
the theme of 2024 seems to be "i'm going to be more human about my posting schedule"
for the record, i approve of this theme
The dad joke was exactly what I needed today! Happy new year
Been here since March 2007 and this video made me feel lucky and ANCIENT.
💙
I think you guys are an integral part of the RUclips experience. Not jus that but like a real, eternal part of pop culture. I feel like the magnitude of it is so crazy to me, as a more recent fan
I’m exactly two weeks younger than this channel, happy 17th birthday VlogBrothers!
Happy 17th Vlogbrothers and Thank you.
BIG shout out to the captions which just immediately took me out with “good morning hick”
This month marks 1 year of being a Nerdfighter for me, and I love that you guys have been creating content for so long and trying to take care of yourselves, too! Happy New Year!
Happy Nerdfighter-versary!! We're glad you're here with us. Happy New Year!
I'm turning 31 and I've watched since the startish. 17 years holy moly you guys should be proud
been here since i was 8 years old and now that i'm a college graduate it's definitely the best decision elementary school me ever made. happy new year
re: nerdfighteria sticking around - As someone who has been watching you guys since. 2009?
Thank you!
SO happy to be on the road with you all nerdfighters!
"How do they fit all of you in there?" is so good
I feel so grateful to have been in this community for almost all of those 17 years 💗🥺
John I appreciated when you pointed at me and said you were glad I'm here. I'm glad I'm here too! Also your joke was great- Hank would agree.
When you pointed at the camera, I waved back at you automatically. And I think that says a lot about Nerdfighteria, in a wonderful, wonderful way.
Lovely! And true, true.
Love love love this community of amazing people (and maybe one octopus)! ❤️
I would love to see it, though.
you aren’t old you have more experience than anyone here ❤️ love you both thank you for this community HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HAPPY LONG LIFE
I've been watching you guys since 2008, and I want to thank you for all the humor, reassurance, and wisdom you have shared with all of us. i often tell my husband that I belong to the church of DFTBA.
That's so cool. I also joined in 2008! And I salute, you kept up with watching regulraly! 😀
Take care of yourself! The priority is always you. If you don't want to make a video, don't. Take your time, we will be here. 💜
+
I love you guys so much🥹❤️
Just want to say that I came in to this community on the day Accio Deathly Hallows made the front page of RUclips.
Wait, what happened in 2014?
In yesterday's episode of Jeopardy, there is a whole category called John Green with video-questions presented by John! I was so excited!!! :D
