    Wow! I just spent an over hour reading a chapter that didn't make any sense but rather confused me. In less than 4 minutes of watching your video I understand exactly what I needed to know, and more! Thank you so much! You're step-by-step breakdown and patience in teaching is absolutely outstanding and pretty remarkable!!

    Hi penny, don't feel bad, it can be tricky at first. Take a look at my other longer videos on categorical syllogisms. If you're still stuck send me an example problem and I can help walk you through it.

    Hi KCAASE,
    I can understand why you are a bit confused. There are many forms of deductive argument(s) including the condition, or if-then formulation. It might help to distinguish deductive and inductive logic. Arguments that follow our of necessity are deductive while arguments that follow out of probability are inductive. Accordingly the necessity of a deductive argument concerns the form of the argument. There are many valid forms of deductive argumentation. I hope this helps.

    How deduction possible? I've been wondering that for a while now. I understand that in abstract reasoning we can deduce a conclusion based on two general premises, but can we deduce things about reality?

    Hello folks!
    In my (beloved) Critical thinking course, we call this type of determining whether a syllogism is valid or not 'poem'. The AAA-1 for example would be BARBARA.
    I do get, how you determine the validity of a syllogism with htis methid, but I don't get how I determine which poem it is. BARBARA? DARIO? FERII? Where does these letters/names stem from? Can anyone help me?

    Hi everyone do you know how to do this one:
    Write the following syllogism in the standard categorical form and analyze its validity.
    “Whenever I'm in trouble, I pray. And since I'm always in trouble, there is not a day when I don't pray.” (Isaac Bashevis Singer) (Hint: you will need to change the wording of these three propositions, without changing their meaning, to put the argument into the form of a three-term syllogism.)

    and they didn't teach us that hidden (or obvious for others) pattern in school DX
    they made me suffer memorizing those figure instead DX payback time this finals!!

    thanks this helped but i cant help but feel like this subject is a load of hotair like it explains what i know already intuitively for no real reason. this is why i like math and science there is a real concrete reason for them i enjoy the arts also but this stuff is just pointless. why boil down arguments to lifeless diagrams

    • @eliasclarke2048
      @eliasclarke2048 6 лет назад

      What do you mean by "concrete reason"?

    • @julie198
      @julie198 6 лет назад

      intuition is great for when one wants to make a quick decision with little information or time to reason, but reasoning is more precise; with reasoning, one can make more accurate predictions.

    to understand, you need a true syllogism. from cicero-
    reality is that which exists
    evil exists
    therefore, evil is a reality
    now this guy should be easily grokked
    you are welcome
