Impressive! Dedicated camcorders can have great practical benefits compared to the hybrid dslr's and mirrorless cameras used by most film and doc makers today. Would love to see a comparison with this camera to for example a canon Eos R in terms of image quality, comparing dynamic range, colors, low light performance and sharpness. Does this device have an hdr mode?
A couple of years ago Sony was the way to go with the AX53 and AX100/700 NX80 series, but the momentum has swung back to Panasonic with the VX1 matching the AX53 in most things, and beating it in low light and price, and this camera matching and beating the NX80 with the light and two rings. Although I would save a bit of money and ge HC-X2000 which is a very similar camera. Panasonic has always had an advantage in the ability to easily use external power bank batteries for longer recording away from a wall socket (Sony has a proprietary socket that prevents this), and I am liking their lenses.
Thanx for great video! What is the bit rate when recording in 4K 60p 4:2:2 internally and from HDMI? Does tracking and stabilization works in 4K 60p 4:2:2? Also how smooth is the zoom rocker? In some cameras it is hard to get good slow zoom because it will accelerate at the start. Thank you!
I want to like this camera...so many functions but the actual footage is just ok...I'm not expecting to compete with my C100 mk2 but I need a camera that can give me MUCH better footage in 1080p than my old Canon XF300...would getting this AG-CX10 give me a massive upgrade over my old cameras? Great video! I am curious to know how comfortable it feels when hand held, especially when reaching up to operate the zoom rocker. It look's like a bit of a stretch to the rocker (but hard to really tell in a video) I shoot almost everything by hand in run and gun situations, so I need to operate the zoom rocker easily and with precise control. Is it a carry over from previous gen models like the HC-X1000? Does it have a log option, a Cine setting options? What settings did you use? I get that you didn't grade in post.
SDI 4K output: The manual states that the provided SDI out is 3G SDI, meaning the maximum resolution you can push is 1080/59.94p. The bandwidth of the connector doesn't allow for any more. SDI devices that provide UHD or Cinema 4K resolutions at 30 or 60p require 6 or 12G SDI interfaces, respectively
A good review of the video camera. I bought it to do live video streaming of church services due to the Corona Virus pandemic. There is an easy way of putting the URL of streaming but I could not figure it out yet.
Footage looks great...I think i would enjoy using this camera for all kinds of things. Awesome live streaming capabilities. From what I understand (correct me if I am wrong) this has its own IP address so you can live stream directly to RUclips. Would be so fun to take on my hikes and film wildlife. Why only 1/2 inch sensor? Sony cameras for same cost and even much less cost have 1 inch sensors... Can this thing really compare to the image quality? I love my Sony cameras and feel like I can never go back to a smaller sensor... Your test images are good but don't appear to hold up to what I get from my Sony HXR NX 100... Which granted it doesn't shoot 4k but is only $1,500... And for the same price as this camera you can get something with a 1 inch sensor that does shoot 4k...Please advise
Should have been at least a 1" sensor not a 1/2.5 in a video camera in this category ($2600.00) in 2019 or 2020. But being it has 3G-SDI it may be not so bad b/c SDI will run about $500 more in a video camera of the same model. Still blows my mind that people don't get what a real video camera brings to the table. Yo a video camera is 10x better than a DSLR when using it for the job it was made for...
Ronald. I have the Sony RX-10iv. I am disgusted with the narrow depth o field. may be great for Hollywood look but is a nightmare for nature (birds etc). I am so looking forward to getting rid of the RX 10 because of depth of field and focus (horrible) problems (in video mode). Focus is a horrible nightmare with sony rx10 in video. i hope this new panasonic will solve that problem. i agree on what a video cam brings to the table my old Canon HX-V30 is so much better in zoom (ease in ease out) variable speed, focus etc tha n the sony. If only they made a camera with a 1 inch sensor, same form factor and features. Doesn't have to have the same zoom range, but a bright aperture with wide angle FoV would be really useful. I'd use the heck out of that.
@@csamd9049 It's the depth of field control and dynamic range I'm interested in. Even the Panasonic LX10 pocket camera can create reasonable subject separation with its 1 inch sensor and f2.8 aperture at 70mm equivalent.

But the depth of field here will not be small, only slight blurring is possible without the use of large focal lengths.

You guys do realize this was shot during the golden hour. It is very common for any camera to produce overly saturated colors under those conditions. Using MWB can clear that up if so desired, but some people shoot for that kind of look.

You can’t. The f stop changes as you zoom in. 1.8 when not zoomed and I think 4.5 when fully zoomed I think. So 4.5 less light is being let in Aka looks darker
I have a 10 year old HD Panasonic camcorder which is great: I just transfer the SD card from the camcorder to my Panasonic Blu-Ray recorder and can record the footage onto a Blu-Ray recordable disc. I have not invested in a 4K TV, nor a 4K camcorder, because Panasonic has still not produced a 4K Ultra Blu-Ray recorder. Does anyone know if/when this might happen ?

At this price range a 1 inch sensor isn't asking to much... even my old Panasonic HC X920's and 900's (released in 2012) have a 1/2.3 sensor, the next size up from the 1/2.5 I'm surprised, even just for marketing reasons, they didn't put a 1inch sensor in the CX 10 (or even a 1/2.3 sensor). The Black Magic Pocket 4K has a 4/3 sensor and that is cheaper than the CX10 by about a grand! Other than for streaming and shooting live this cam doesn't warrant the price.

@@neffster6784 I shoot fight events on Panasonic hc x920's (I have three of them. These are from 2013 when they were launched). That's why I'm looking at the CX10, to replace my aging HCX 920's. But fight events tend to be in indoor, low light settings. I wouldn't trust the CX10's 1/2.5 sensor for low light conditions that I shoot in... not at that price anyway! I wouldn't use a BMPCC for shooting a sport event, not unless I was just after clips for a promo vid. I use a Panasonic FZ 2000 for this. Like you said 'different tools for different jobs' but at the price I would never splash out over £2000 on a camcorder with a 1/2.5 sensor... not when there are Canon Legria's for half that price lol.
Wow! This thing has to sell along side the JVC lineup and this one seems to be the same camera without the capability and the image quality or the sound quality of the JVC cameras. Add to that this this one is basically nearly twice the price and the question is "who would buy it and pay that much for an inferior produce?" See the JVC GY HM170 and the others in the range for $1500 or less.
No 4K60p from the JVC, only 4K30p. Also no 4:2:2 out. Panasonic stabilization is better as is the AF. Thus some pretty significant differences between the two
I do not get the camera industry. Camcorders are amazing yet so very low possibilities for creative work. No interchangeable lenses. No shallow depth of field. No 120 fps, but they do have amazing optical zooms that are worth a ton amzaing built in stabalization and amazing autofocus. No hunting what so ever like the dslr and mirorless ones. I just don't get why such differencies.

You can't have the cake and eat it too. The amazing optical zooms and stabilization are possible because the lens is built into the body, it's a different design entirely from a detachable lens. You get longer recording times, no overheating and more performing autofocus precisely because the sensor is smaller and thus doesn't strain the components as much, you lose the shallow depth of field but that's a trade-off most professionals are comfortable with.

Sorry, I found most of the footage (specially magic hour) pretty ugly. Blown out highlights, white balance looks way off (totally too red, skin tones look atrocious). The slow motion looks a lot better. I have seen other video shot with this camera and they look nothing like this. They actually are stunning!

It's all compromise. Yes, this has numerous bells and whistles, but the sensor 1/2.5 is same size as many bridge cameras. Gopro 1/2.3 for comparison.

3G SDI is only 1080HD, if you want UHD need to go to 6G SDI for 30P or 12G SDI for 60P
It appears to have super charged chroma. It needs to be toned down quite a bit especially skin tones in those sunset scenes.

How do you get videos to upload on computer? I put memory card into computer, yet computer doesn't notice the files, but camera does. So annoying

A great set of features but the picture quality looks like it was shot with a 5 year old smartphone. Too bad, at first glance, it looked attractive.
Sony NX80 is much better. Isn’t it? .. there are no focus problems because everything is clear there’s absolutely no depth of field. It’s like shooting with the iPhone

The Cam has an 1/2.5 Minisensor. This was up to date 10 years ago ! Pana. go home.... ;((

Sorry, I found most of the footage (specially magic hour) pretty ugly. Blown out highlights, white balance looks way off (totally too red, skin tones look atrocious). The slow motion looks a lot better. I have seen other video shot with this camera and they look nothing like this. They actually are stunning!

@@jummi4495 I used a similar Panasonic camera from a golf cart. It is quick and easy to handle on the move.
