- Hey there.
This one is a bit shorter than my usual uploads, and to be pretty honest, I haven't had much time outside of work lately.
Still, since June 22 is fast approaching, and gameplay footage from XVI is being held in high regard, I couldn't help but try my hand at what I could only guess it's the battle theme, maybe?
Who knows, we'll only know for sure when the game is out!
Meanwhile, I hope y'all enjoy. Chances are that I'll probably upload an extended version in the future, since there's no official version of this song yet.

I love that around 0:31 on you can hear the Prelude weaved into the background of the track, absolutely lovely addition and it really sells the nostalgia factor of this version!

The opening 10 seconds has almost the same build up as FF8's battle. Really recognizable in 8bit.
Yoshi-P and Creative Unit III are involved. If nothing else, FF16 is guaranteed to have a god tier OST.
Honestly a lot of FF battle themes use some variation of a similar opening maybe with accents in different spots and such. This has accents similar to FF8, but it's also in a different time signature.
The whole time I played FF16 I kept saying "water and water and water" as the theme started 😂

@@seraphinw1 try countIng it again. It changes up quite a bit. Sometimes it's 3+3+2+2+2, other times it's 3+3+2+2
The switching back and forth between 5/4 (or 2/4, depending on how you want to split it) and 3/4 in the beginning makes it feel like you are surprised, giving it the same sense of urgency and desperation that the Mission Impossible Theme has. However, once the initial shock of getting jumped is gone, the solid 3/4 time comes in, and it is now a Waltz, reflecting the character's deadly dance of a fighting style.
All this to say, Soken is a genius.
Sounds like a straight up 6/8-5/8 with a return to 6/8 to me. I think the main melody has way too many sustained notes to read as well in 3/4.

Second half of this is fucking HYPED. Cant wait to wreck shit to this song. Excuse my language but man ive never been more pumped up for a video game in my 34 years on earth.

We can only hope. I honestly believe that game devs really need to make more pixel graphic games. Like . . . what if the next FF was 2D? Imagine how much content they could add. How much story; how much faster we'd get the next final fantasy. 😏

The PS5 remake of Final Fantasy XVI was pretty good, but the NES version will always be my favorite.
