Johnny...I've seen you 6 times and loved every minute. You were the best! YOU knew how to rock...and YOU knew how to play the best blues. Nobody was/is better! We will miss you. You were absolutely incredible! I never heard you make a mistake. Every time I saw you...after the show...I said to myself..."Wow...how can a guitar player be that good?"...you were unbelievable...absolutely unbelievable." You showed the world how blues is supposed to be played. Many future blues guitarists will get their inspiration from you. "You are truly "THE"... "blues God!" Thank you...and you are well loved! Show them how to play in heaven!
this was the last era when Johnny still had it. speed, accuracy, strong voice. in the mid 90's he started to have trouble being the lightning fast, efficient Johnny we knew and loved. saw him 3 times starting in '87. rest easy JW.
Here a Brazilian that was lucky enough to see him three times live during the 80's. Together with Jimi my true guitar idols , got a dog from a girlfriend an English pointer . When holding the puppy she said what would be his name, didn't think in a name until she ask me. Took me two seconds to think , his name is Winter. RIP my friend you gave and still give moments of pure pleasure.
During those 70's we were a happy bunch of teens and one sunny afternoon we decided to mix a big chunk of fresh hash to cook with marmelade that we put in some pan and brought to the boil, stirred it well and then left it so that it got back down to cool temperature... and 2 hours prior to Johnny Winter's concert each one of us ate two or three big spoons of it. We all sat down and rolled some joints for the show, then got on our feet and before we got to the street we were walking on little waves... and the waves got bigger and bigger... and as M.Winter stroke the first note, the whole space was ringing, resonated as if we heard the sun and all the planets at the same time, we were struck and we were still waiting for the second ..... note...
Gary Adajian ( is your sir name Armenian?) yes and 3 addictions overcome at his passing in 2016! Thank You CHRIS @ Barbara Salisbury 192 vids at RUclips.com all acoustic study and tribute channel!Your friend and cordially,Chris and Barb!
That Bass player played an amazing harmonica in a rack during this period of gigs, sounding like two separate players with Johnny. An amazing band. Saw them twice when in Australia. He is also a guitarist of note so a pretty rounded musician. Perfect for Johnny. In the pocket rhythm section...rock steady...
I am still having a hard time with this, can't believe Johnny gone. I know heaven is happy and he's jam in with all his friends but he leaves us wanting just a little bit more of that magic. That southern boy could lay it down like NOTHING I ever heard or saw. I'll write more later, right now it's all still just getting my head around it but I'll never get my heart around it.A door has closed, something is missing now. Johnny is on the other side and we are left just a little … colder. Thank you Johnny , you rocked the blues and your blues rocked and NO one is ever going to fill the void you left. Know you're playing still. Loved you Johnny , what can I say, it hurts. Peace be with you Johnny!
That sudden and sad news ! A great man, a legend who left us the image of the musician'' Blues & Rock'' exceptional and legendary, will remain anchored in our memory by the legacy he left us. Rest in peace, JOHNNY !!!
I was very fortunate to meet Johnny Wimter about a year before his passing, His lead guitarist Paul Nelson has a concert every year in his memory, Paul has ventured out as well doing different gigs, I have met Paul as well. RIP JOHNNY WINTER
During the hey day of rock guitarists and I lived through them all (saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 64) I personally would rate them from best down. Jimi Hendrix (not so much for his technical ability but for his taking the guitar to cosmic levels) then Jimi Page, very close third Johnny Winters, Clapton then Beck. My personal opinion. Every one a fantastic player for sure.
When I was 9 in 1970 I confiscated my Dad's copy of Johnny Winter And live undoubtedly one of JW's finest , Johnny and Rory Gallagher IMHO are the ONLY White men to do the Blues justice
