The era of musicians and music from the mid 60's to about 1990 were, what I call, 'The Roman Empire of music. It was such a great time, and I can't see it ever being that again, which is real sad.
Producer Val Garay gave The Motels at least 3 extraordinary, timeless singles and such terrific LPs. Plus the fact that he loves Jackson Browne like myself only endears him even more to me! Thanks John🙏
Jesse Ed Davis Played the best solo I ever heard on Dr My Eyes, Great Interview Jessie played with Taj
Fabulous documentary. I have watched it 3 times and ordered the signed blu Ray DVD. Can't wait wait to see The Immediate Family on tour this year ❤
The guys in The Immediate Family and another session player, Herb Pedersen were the were on virtually all the records I bought in the 1970’s. John you should try to get Herb. Interesting guy and humble. He’s still at it, bless his soul, and better than ever.
These session players were the first generation to come along after the birth of Rock and Roll and the Folk scare. They had many more colors on their pallets than the Wrecking Crew. They were able to lend their talent and influence to the artists and in turn their names appeared on recordings. Arranging the songs became a group endeavor rather than having the producer and arranger do it all. Rather than becoming a free for all, the respect they shared for each other was important in the 1970’s and continues today.
fantastic interview John Beaudin. Keep up the great work!
Great interview. Keep up the great work
Thanks, John!
"Flag" is one of my all time favorite albums.
They're all killer musicians, Skunk Baxter is in the same list!
Running On Empty! He’s just cruising in the key of A. Now that’s fun cuz I know how that can be. It must be great to have played bass behind some of the best songwriters of all time. Imagine John Deacon…standing by and looking on…while Freddie (Mr. Piano & Voice) sat at the 88 keys hatching the most iconic of songs. John must’ve been in his glory!
❤
Waddy Wachtel? I can believe it. Fkn MONSTER!
This list should probably start and end with Larry Carlton- period:)
Can't remember any of waddy's solos. Guy has certainly worked with a lot of people though...
Why does Queensryche's The Warning sound like a tin can?
@rockingtr1 - It’s possible you’re being too kind. The Warning is the best example I can come up with of a phenomenal performance that was handicapped by atrocious production quality. It’s a testament to Queensryche’s performance that I still love that album because the production is so unbelievably shitty. It sounds like it was recorded in a sheet aluminum shed full of fiberglass insulation. What a shame. Imagine if someone like Martin Birch or Chris Tsangerides was at the helm when that was recorded?
Simple answer and no need for a War and Peace novel response. Queensryche didn't have enough MONEY.
I've been a professional musician (Guitarist) for 50 years and there's no way known to science that a musician can get a delay or a chorus sound out of a plain amp. This vlog is romantic garbage.
Oh please its just a giant back scratching society. Waddy Wachtel?? Val obviously hasn't worked with Lukather. He's obviously going to name someone he's worked with. It's just his own experience.
