@MrNashtyone I don't know who Mark is, but this is just not true.. I know you think you mean well. What do you think of the Brethren selling books in Deseret Book? Would you say the same to them? Do you even understand what priestcraft is? Because this isn't it. Two economic models allow people to invest their time to help others; 1) you let people pay a small fee if the want to. Completely optional, of course, and 2) You raise money to help you do the same. Either way, someone is paying for it. Would you have paid for the thousands of dollars I have invested in my podcast? Would you be willing to take on the risk of that for me? Will you pay for my equipment, design work, software licensing, legal fees, accountant fees, and travel expenses? Can you support my family for me while I do this? Will you pay for my studio? That would be great because my wife supports us while I get this off the ground. Would you be willing to tell her that her hard work in supporting us and paying for us to do this is evil? I would love to see that. Even the Church operates on tithing funds. You do not understand how things work, and this is disturbing and difficult to hear after all we put into this. I hope you reconsider, but I do appreciate you watching. Thank you.

@@CwicShow agreed. Priestcraft is charging money for saving ordinances, which are to be offered for free. It is not to charge money for all of the work one has done in scholarship, etc. The laborer is worthy of his hire (D&C 84:79)

    • @caguas97
      @caguas97 4 месяца назад +2

@@CwicShow Yes, I agree. I think that a priestcraft is limited to buying and selling of priesthood ordinances, like the example of Simon the magician in the NT. He saw the power that the Apostles wielded and he wanted to be ordained with the same power so that he could make a living off of it. He wanted to charge people to be healed, charge them for baptism, etc. Those things are meant to be had without money and without price (2 Nephi 26:25). As Lehi put it, "salvation is free" (2 Nephi 2:4)
But to ask for remuneration for one's talents, services, efforts, insights, etc. is not priestcraft, but the fair trade of money for goods and services provided.
I work for Church Security. I get paid. I couldn't do it for free. Avraham is a scholar, and he gets paid for his scholarship, his efforts in writing books, etc. If he had to do it for free, he wouldn't do it because he couldn't afford to support himself, and we would all be deprived of the fruits of his labors. The same with you, Greg. You are compensated for your time, talents, efforts, scholarship, etc. We would all be at a loss were you to never have taken up the cause because you couldn't afford to do it for free.
      Good grief.

People in the church don't understand what Isaiah is talking about because they don't think the prophecies and judgments in Isaiah are talking about themselves. The reason it's in the book of Mormon is because the prophecies of Isaiah are specifically talking about the very people that are reading it in the BOM.

Greg, Thank you so much for platforming Avraham again. I took the Savior’s counsel in 3 Nephi to study the words of Isaiah really seriously about four years ago. My prayers on the matter took me to, in addition to other sources, Avraham’s Isaiah Institute translation of Isaiah. The insights I have received from studying this translation, as well as Abraham’s commentary on his translation of Isaiah, as well as his Book of Mormon Isaiah works, have greatly expanded my light and knowledge of Isaiah and what the prophets of the Book of Mormon were trying to teach us sleeping gentiles about our day through Isaiah’s words.
For those who dismiss Avraham’s work by simply buying into what others are saying about him instead of doing the personal study into the valuable work Avraham has done to help enlighten us, I say two things:
    1. The prophet and the apostles are NOT going to do a page turn on the verses of Isaiah to explain them to you.
    2. The prophet is NOT going to announce from the pulpit: “hey everybody, Avraham Gileadi is a mini prophet so use him as the officially sanctioned resource for understanding Isaiah!”
What the prophet and apostles, living and dead, are telling us and will continue to tell us, in fact, what their PRIMARY mission is to us, is to to plead with us to develop a deep connection to our Savior and His Father through the Holy Ghost so that we can receive our own personal revelation. If we are getting our revelation by the “power of the podcast” instead of by the power of the Holy Ghost through our own fasting, prayer and serious and intentional study of the scriptures that are sitting right there on our phones, one click away from our favorite podcaster, we will never know the truth of all things.
Thank you again Greg, for featuring brother Gileadi, another voice from the “wilderness,”on your program!

Why did Isaiah write in code?? This instantly popped into mind.
    Matt. 13
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

In 1986, Paul H Dunn spoke to the missionaires at the MTC in Provo. My brother recorded his talk on his cassette recorder. Bro. Dunn said, "I don't care what Isaiah says, I only care what the current prophet says he says." IMO this thinking and teaching is a stumbling block for us. This principle is taught over the pulpit time and time again. Why would we seek out our own learning? Why not just skip over the words of Isaiah and rely on our "living" prophets to interpret Isaiah for us? I am grateful that Bro. Gileadi mentioned that he follows Jesus Christ and prophetic counsel.

"What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same." (D&C 1:38)
"Whosoever receiveth my word receiveth me, and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth those, the First Presidency, whom I have sent, whom I have made counselors for my name’s sake unto you." (D&C 112:20)
Just because that exact phrase isn't found in the scriptures doesn't mean it isn't a true principle. Jesus appointed the Prophet. He didn't do it so that we could ignore prophetic counsel.

    • @AngelPuff1012
      @AngelPuff1012 4 месяца назад +1

@caguas97 I don't understand any of that to say, "Follow the prophet." Christ DID use the word "follow," and it was ONLY for Him. I read those verses as the prophet being the mouthpiece for the Lord on earth and to abide by their words and counsel. Their words and counsel direct us how to "follow" Jesus Christ in our day. I believe the term "follow the prophet" is a big reason why some believe we don't follow Jesus and worship a man. I don't blame them for thinking it because there are times when people in our church act exactly that way.

I feel like eternal progression is the hope that we can always do better. Yes, we need to repent and be aware, but he tells us about the gathering of Israel on both sides of the veil in the last days and the part members play. Temple work and ordinance workers and missionaries serving in multiple capacities is talked about by Isaiah. So stop skipping Isaiah chapters and pray to understand but don’t feel discouraged or hopeless or worried. Stay faithful and keep trying even when you struggle. We are all on a path. Stay there, keep learning and progressing. Have Hope! The lord loves effort. The lord loves his children. We all need to inventory our lives and do what Nephi says- apply his words to ourselves.

I totally agree with what Avraham said around the 34:30 mark, essentially that the more effort the individual puts into not only reading but truly STUDYING and searching the scriptures the more information one gains, and therefore the Spirit can witness to that person all the more frequently and specifically, “The Spirit can work with you better”.
Think about when you offer someone directions. If they are familiar with the town and street names or landmarks in the area, you stand to have a much better chance of helping them to arrive at the desired destination rather than someone who is NOT familiar with that area. They will require MUCH MORE detail and very specific information in order to accomplish the same goal of travel. Notwithstanding, the latter stands a much higher risk of getting lost along the way.
This corresponds perfectly with Elder Bednar’s counsel that, “the Spirit cannot help us to recall that which we have not labored to learn”.

Hey Greg, I think you should dedicate an episode on talking about this belief held by a lot of members that the Church is currently in a state of Apostasy and apparently needs a re-restoration. I want to know if they sneer and murmur when they hear our prophets speak in general conference. Do they even watch general conference? If they do, is it to find more evidence of the churches apostasy? This is crazy. I’m reading through the comments and I’m floored by what I’m hearing. How big is this group?

Studying Isaiah opened my eyes and helped me understand what was going on with the church's unbelievably incompetent, bumbled handling of covid, not to mention its handholding with the UN and other facets of the Great and Abominable Church that Nephi foresaw.

The incompetence is you as a member of the church who does not understand the role of prophets. Spend time in the Bible Dictionary and D&C 1 before you come to the conclusion that it was bumbled. Then decide how you would have handled it while still maintaining an open wide net for gathering God’s children.

Bothering me is the tendency these days to find fault with our prophet or an apostle or Brigham Young or Joseph Smith or Isaiah; you name it, someone will object to it.....and maybe even using that as a reason to leave the Church. President Nelson says to get on the Covenant path and stay on......so if we do that does that makes us into following a prophet and not Christ when Christ is the one giving our prophet the direction?? This is NOT complicated...... If you have feelings of confusion, consider the REAL source of that kind of feeling......when feeling confused: immediately, IMMEDIATELY turn to God in prayer and scriptures, and/or "cast satan and his influence out of your life" like President Nelson taught as part of Spiritual Momentum.

The greatest part of this interview is when Avraham says what we can learn from the Jews on how they approach the scriptures with a spirit of learning rather than telling the scriptures to confirm what we already believe. The greatest example of this is regarding the creation, the fall, and how we ended up on this fallen earth. Greg I love your channel, I think there is a big miss on your approach to the creation and the fall. However, I can understand why you have this approach as many members totally miss what the scriptures tell us on thecreation and the fall. An understanding of this basic doctrine is critical to understand Isaiah as well as the end times are part of the solution in restoring the challenges we face from the creation and the fall. Great episode!!

    • @trollasaurusrex4999

There is definitely a movement of members who fall away after dabbing in Isaiah and ascribe to some of Gileadi’s teachings. Gileadi is extremely knowledgeable concerning Isaiah, but at times I believe he is blinded by pride.
For example, when you hear him teach about Isaiah 28, he teaches that the prophets of our latter day church are drunk with wine and fallen into apostasy. I’ve heard him chuckle and seen him grin from ear to ear when going over this. I’ve pointed out the inconsistency he treats this…so much of Isaiah is symbolic, but all of a sudden it’s literal and very specific here. I believe he is completely wrong on it and needs to reexamine it with the spirit of revelation to correctly understand what Isaiah was implying.
Don’t get me wrong here, I don’t think any of the apostles/prophets are perfect…but Gileadi’s implications of apostasy are problematic with the teachings of Joseph Smith and the principles of priesthood keys.
This is just one of many examples of how you have to be careful when reading the interpretation of a man.

    • @phalenkell8762

Thanks for the info, in my experience “I don’t follow the Brethren, I follow Christ” is usually code for “I disagree with the prophet and this is how I will justify it”. Maybe he doesn’t mean it that way but I’ve heard those exact words from some members who might disagree with the church on social and moral issues. It’s like a calling card. I want to learn his insights on Isaiah though, he seems to know a lot more context than I do.

    • @knelson3326

These comments are spot on! I spent a few months in a Gileadi study group and all the members are waiting for the prophet to fail so that Gileadi’s interpretation of Isaiah will be fulfilled. The “drunkards of Ephraim” is tricky as the USA is full of Ephraim, mostly not members of the church. That certainly expands his narrow interpretation. Personally, I believe Gileadi is an antichrist, the most subtle kind. Adding to his misinterpretations of Isaiah the fact that he believes the book Visions of Glory and that is all I need to know about AG.

There is still more to decipher, though I finally felt I was learning the relevant prophecies for our day. I will glean what I can from AG and throw the dross away. He did speak about the pride of the scholar elites and then you get the feeling that he would profess that he’s the “true” Master on the subject; not negating his VAST study but I like to think that the Spirit can fill in the holes for we LOWLY Lazarus’ that lick the crumbs from his feet.

From “Ten Keys for Understanding Isaiah,” October 1973 Ensign, by Bruce R. McConkie: “Personally, I feel about Isaiah and his utterances the same way Nephi felt and think that if I expect to go where Nephi and Isaiah have gone, I had better speak their language, think their thoughts, know what they knew, believe and teach what they believed and taught, and live as they lived. It just may be that my salvation (and yours also!) does in fact depend upon our ability to understand the writings of Isaiah as fully and truly as Nephi understood them.” Avraham has voiced the substance of this last thought many times in lectures and interviews.

Think of it this way, Isaiah wants reading his prophecy to be like salvation; on our own, there's no way we can progress! It's only when we humbly ask God to help us that we can succeed. Understanding Isaiah is a gift from God. All we have to do is exercise faith by, like Avraham says, putting in the work.

    • @magitekarms60

Actually I'm seeing the opposite, so take heart. It's the intellectuals that seem to be dismissing any and every interpretation of scripture as just one more for the pile that we really can't ever know. The members of the church that are honestly seeking the Holy Ghost seem to get exactly what Isaiah is teaching and warning us about (and No, it's not that the brethren or leaders are currently in Apostasy). I've found lots of peace and hope in starting to understand this prophet. Christ seemed to think rather highly of him when preaching to the Nephites. Pres. Nelson encouraged us to study Christ's teachings on Isaiah in 3 Nephi. Maybe there's something to that. Lots of buried treasure in those cross references. 😉

If you take the time to go to the Isaiah Institute website and check out some of his free content, and, if you do it with real intent like Moroni suggests to us, you will come to understand Isaiah and why his words are so important to YOU. Because of the power of the Holy Ghost, you do not have to be an LDS scholar to gain a stronger testimony of Christ by studying Isaiah. Then when the time comes, you can enjoy being right!

To answer your question, "why doesn't he just layout what he is saying", I think the answer is this: if God and the prophets are too clear in what they prophecy, there will be those who will act on that to try and make it fulfill. More and more people are awakening but it is a really slow process. All of the old Patriarchs had to Sacrifice to attain their glory, the modern saints still do not understand how special they are. The elephant in the room when it comes to Isaiah, and the single greatest barrier to embracing Isaiah is simply leader worship. The saints have put their faith and trust in their leaders. The leaders are their idols and what happens when you attack peoples idols? They get angry and harden their hearts. It is that simple! Isaiah description of the great and marvelous work is all about a coming servant from outside of the church hierarchy just like John the Baptist and Christ did. The members will reject him just like they are rejecting the message of Isaiah and the fulness of the gospel will be taken from them and be given to those who will bring forth fruit.
Failure to accept the fact that the leaders are the blind leading the blind in our day is the great stumbling block to awakening to the saints. I have seen it over and over again. It's so disheartening.

The only leader worship I see is for some high priests or former bishops who advocate lowering the law of chastity to LGBTQ lifestyle standards is spite of the prophet and apostles continuing to hold to Gods standard of chastity. The apostles and prophets are still unpopular and many have itching ears to reject them and Gods standards for a more comfortable God.
In the days of Jesus Christ’s mortal ministry Jesus Christ and the apostles and prophets were rejected by many of the high priests of their time. You need to be more precise about which leaders you talking about here.

The problem with the secular is that sometimes they doesn't align with the Docrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that is revelatory. One has to choose between revelation vrs the philosophies of men.
Gentiles is not an ancient word. It comes frome the Greek. It means nations or Nations not Judah. Ephraim is a Gentile nation but so is Levi, Ruben, and the ten tribes. Ephraim is the one Jacob blessed to do the work in these Latter-days and has rights to the priesthood and convanent of Abraham as any other tribe.
It feels like Dr. Gileadi teachings for Ephraim is based.
We have been counciled to take the Holy Spirit for a guide and search, ponder, and pray for understanding with the scriptures. I'm not saying you can't learn from scholars like Gileadi, but when his interpretations don't align with the teachings of the Church what do you do?

Who are the Jews, gentiles and Lamanites the title page of the Book of Mormon is written to in Abvrahams view?

    • @andrewdurfee3896

I don't know Abvraham's view, but Lehi sons flee from Jerusalem and his sons end up holding different views. From the offset Nephi prays to God and comes to a knowledge of Gods love, and a knowledge of what his father saw in vision. Laman and Lemuel did not do so. This creates a paradigm shift between the understanding and views of Nephi, Sam, etc. vs Laman, Lemuel, etc. Because Nephi prayed he knew that it was God that lead his father out of Jerusalem vs the view of Laman and Lemuel that it was their father who commanded the family to flee Jerusalem. The spread farther and father apart as the story goes on. Remember Laman and Lemuel believe Moses was a prophet and the people in Jerusalem are a righteous people. Lehi tries to teach them that the law of Moses points to a coming messiah who shall be called Jesus Christ, but they aren't having it. Laman and Lemuel reflect the view and perspective of the Jews of our day.
The Book of Mormon shows other views that would be held in our day from atheism, to there is no hell and all shall be saved at the last day and other views. Do you recognized the teachings the Book of Mormon warns us about? do you see in it patterns for our day?

As i understand the reason that these study groups were frowned upon was because some of these groups began to exclude others. There was the start of division. So the reason that the church hasn't recovered from that is because this is supposed to be Zion. One in heart. There were decades of pride that came from that time. I remember so many general conference talk about pride and including everyone. The rescent past i am seing a more inclusivity regardless of level of activity and scripture knowledge. And so i am seeing deeper study. The come follow me program has caused the group study to be within the family. Online groups open to everyone like the Isaiah institute, Joseph Smith papers or the Maxwell instituteand even scripture central. These are available to everyone. We even have an adult education group in pur stake.

My favorite and first was The Last Days - Types and Shadows from the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I would also recommend The End from The Beginning.

    • @Rodolfo-Vergara
      @Rodolfo-Vergara 4 месяца назад +1

      The foundational ones are:
The End from the Beginning, Isaiah Made Simple, Isaiah Decoded, and Isaiah: Prophet of the
      End-Time.
Then it makes sense to read:
      End-time prophecy
The Last Days Types and Shadows from the Book of Mormon
      The literary message of Isaiah.

Yes, The entire Isaiah Institute translation of Isaiah, along with Avraham's personal commentary on his translation, as well as a series of podcasts entitled "Book of Mormon Isaiah" are all on audio, free of charge. If you want some of his books, you will need to purchase them, but they are inexpensive.

I'm interested in hearing Avraham discuss all he has learned about the book of Isaiah. I guess he has had a lot of push back over the years, but when I listen to him, I want to glean from his knowledge. I'm really not interested in the political contention in the world and our country today.

You mentioned what happened in every civilizations throughout the generations without connecting the dots. So many times, the Lord led the righteous out from the wicked. As we follow the prophet, that's what's happening in our time... the righteous are being led out of every nation and 1) gathering into the Stakes of Zion. Some will be gathered literally to Zion, Jackson County. We literally see this as students come to BYU Hawaii from dozens of nations to a Zion/The North Shore
Also, we can spin our wheel trying to understand Isaiah, or, we can look at these things more simply, knowing that the words of Isaiah as well as all the words of the Lord, lead us to Christ, to come into His presence in the Holy of Holies
And, to take upon ourselves the name of Christ whenever we do anything that he would do
And to be Peacemakers, Overcome the world and bring souls unto Christ
What else do you think Isaiah has to say?

    • @CwicShow

My first recommendation is to see how Isaiah is used in the Book of Mormon. How does Nephi couch the chapters he uses? What meaning does Nephi give to Isaiah? Then take what you learn to the rest of Isaiah.
And yes, I understand the flavor of your question.
