SMT V Demi-Fiend Boss Hard Mode. No NG+, First Playthrough, no OP Essence (True Superboss)

This one actually took me a bit to prepare for, this was my second attempt at the fight, the first time he Chaotic Will + Gaea Rage'd me on the same turn when he had 5% HP and that hurt my soul lol.
Two things to keep in mind for this fight (to make it way easier).
1. You can skip his Mediarahan (heals half his health once per battle) if you use the Avian Class Omagatoki at the final ? of his health.
Also using this Omagatoki whenever you feel overwhelmed by his Chaotic Will spam mid-late battle is great to assure you survive (You can also skip his Gaea Rage Skills with it but I don't know what's the trigger for that one).
2. You want Pixie and Parvati to either die really fast or be muted/confused most of the time since there's always the chance they will heal the Demi-Fiend for 10000+ HP and that's a major set-back since MP isn't infinite and your demons tend to get anhilated by Chaotic Will.
Lastly, it might be bothersome but have Enduring Soul on all of your important Demons. You can farm this skill from Chimaera and Vishnu's Essences.
Other than that, don't get discouraged if you fail, this fight isn't that hard if you know how the game mechanics work and how to demon-build. Try to get accostumed to those if you haven't and good luck.

That Garuda with Accursed poison was actually helpful. I still haven't beat him, but I'm getting closer. I can get through half his HP, stop his mediarahan, but I run out of MP and good demons at this point.
Yeah that's the reason why I prepared so many healers and healers to just rotate, healing their MP is a complete waste of time. Accursed Poison also saved me a couple of times from Chaotic Wills out of nowhere in this and other runs.
I came here to say that was a brilliant move to stop him from using his heal that's crazy smart
How exactly does accursed poison by his heal? i haven't fought demi fiend yet and I'm currently theory crafting my team for him, if you wouldn't mind explaining that be appreciated and also great run and congrats
It's a way to inflict seal and if the Mediarahan is stopped in this way, the AI doesn't even try to cast it again

Running magic build on 1st run. Can I even beat him with magic cause only seen people run physical builds with murakumo
Yes, you can but it will take a lot longer, as Magical Piercing Attacks hit for way less than Murakumo.
You're looking at slapping either moves like Trisagion or Ice Age on your Nahobino or keep Barion moves on him for extra press turns and having Physically Piercing Demons do the most damage on the Demi-Fiend.
Just try to prepare your party and don't be overimpressed by the Demi-Fiend, out of 4 Attempts I've beaten him 3 times.

This was really amazing, I tried to beat demi fiend on my first playthrough, but didn't have enough resist/repel phys, so I got smacked halfway through, ended up forgetting to accursed poison at his 50% too. 😭 How much grinding did you do to get the MP and HP so high??
Great Life Spring and Great Mana Spring did a lot of the heavy lifting regarding that, Mitama DLC helped a bit as well, other than that on the final day or two I played the game I was save scumming every random item location (navigator) until I got enough essences to get near max, overall it was probably like 4-5 hours but I did get a really long lucky streak.
@@Neverbloom Are there any specific navigators that offer sutras and MP/HP incenses? I appreciate the reply btw!! I wish this were similar to IV/A, where we had a dlc to farm incense, in order to prep for the superbosses. 😭 I haven't found a single balm or stamina incense, it's like they're hella rare
@@skydivisionx I had my best luck with Hua Po and Amenozako. Balms aren't farmeable to my knowledge, you can however farm Sutras and Incenses with Navigators or as Level Up Rewards from Demons but the latter is quite time consuming.
Great fight but the main thing i’m wondering is how do you get that other menu that shows the active demons and enemy demons and stuff💀
I was using a PS5 Controller on my emulator, that comes up when you press "Square". I think it's "Y" On Nintendo Controllers. Only works during your turn though.

I run Critical Zealot (reduces normal damage but increases critical damage) on all my damage dealing demons, Other than that, 2 Pleromas for their attacking moves (Almighty for Nahobino, Physical for Odin, Fire for Amon, etc).

@@markrichardson7192 That's very nice! He's probably the 2nd best attacker in the game (after Amon in my opinion). And he's a beast against Demi-Fiend but he eats too much MP.
Let me tell you the truth the thing is I beat him on safety difficulty because I had trouble beating him on normal mode and I was happy after that and Demi fiend

How did you get your demons stats that high?
I dropped a lot of Magic/Phys Incenses while farming for Sutras for my Demons (I don't know why Sutras have such a low Drop Rate smh), the other stats got boosted by NPC Trading for Stones but they're useless and was a waste of time.
The only Stats that really matter are HP, MP, Attack/Magic.
Other than that, most end-game demons have really high Magic/Attack at Level 99.
This I forgot to disclose:
° When counting Enduring Soul + Whittled Goat he killed 17 of my Characters lol.
° I kinda feel like trading the NPC's for Vitality + Luck Incenses is a scam and a huge waste of time, after grinding a bit it feels like I take the same damage at 120-160 Vitality that I would take at 90 for Demons. And as per luck, I critted 0 times in this battle (without the Omagatoki Skill) and on a couple demons I attacked a lot with like Amon, Odin, Zeus and Shiva I had extremely high Luck and Body Glee + Murderous Glee. It feels like those skills aren't really good when facing bosses as this is the tendence with it.
I was using the Trumpeter Essence with Null Phys on the Nahobino, everyone else only had 1 Null/Block Passive Skill to block their inherent weaknesses, this was my first playthrough and I also got the True Neutral Ending on it afterwards.
Anyway, I feel like I completed SMT V on my first Playthrough, I probably won't go back to the game, I consider it a bit of a letdown in comparison to Nocturne, feels like a lot of things are missing.
Difficulty-wise, overall; the game is quite easy, the AI feels super stupid in mid/late game and will keep physically attacking you if you use Block Phys with one of your demons, which makes the game a joke even at super low levels.
Outside of Shiva and Demi-Fiend I fought most bosses at -10/5 Levels [Hell, I fought Ra a Level 82 Boss at level 66] and only died once the whole game (I got SMT'd by Loup-Garou) there's no super bosses in Nocturne, Lucifer in Hard Mode is a joke but the overall game and boss difficulty there is way higher.
Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2's bosses Demi Fiend and Satan are way stronger than Demi Fiend and Shiva on this game.
If I had to rate SMT V, I would give it a 7/10.
some thoughts as well: All incenses, except for Magic and Strength are objectively hot garbage. The gameplay is refined, but it has many, many problems that deem it not as good as IV:Final.
The story is bullshit. Disappointment. The environment is great, navigation is okay I guess.
After IV I don't think we'll have a mainline SMT game with a proper story (in the future).
@@YurificationTrademark Yeah, it's mainly the A.I that's a huge letdown, I also have a problem with the lack of Dungeons in the game.
The story was super dull and felt rushed, it's definitely no Nocturne in show don't tell exposition or no 4A with a proper story.

how did you get trumpeter essence?
@@j.2138 I fused Trumpeter and Mother Harlot. There's a miracle that gives you a chance to get a Demon Essence every time they level up, I took them close to leveling up and save-scummed until I got one of the two.
How did you farm incenses/sutras consistently?
At the third overworld area there's and NPC Queen Mebd with whom you can indefinitely trade Gems (dropped Navigator "discoveries", Decarabia is the best for this) for Vitality, Agility and Luck Incenses.
The way to find Sutras/Balms is only through RNG navigator "discoveries" or Mitama drops.
You also have a chance to get the Incenses themselves from Mitama drops but it's super annoying.
I don't recommend farming Vitality, Luck or Agility Incenses as they do fuck all and I wasted my time doing so. If you feel like exploring / leveling some demons with the mitama grimoire exploit then I suggest you bring a navigator back to the first area and run through the whole thing, you might get a couple Sutras and Strenght / Magic incenses but it will take some time.
It helps a lot if you have the DLC but...
I still think there isn't much of a difference from like 120 Strenght / Magic to 150-160 Strenght / Magic. So I wouldn't sweat it farming these if I were you.
The most important items are Aiding Sutras (for all your debuffers), Sutras for your AOE Piercing Demons (Shiva, Amon) and Healing Sutras for Danu/Idun.

@@bacekechi8604 If you're power leveling Demons, feed your main party grimoires, find a red mitama (really easy with the dlc) and it will drop 1-4 grimoires 100% of the time.

You can stop him using accursed poison when his HP drops past half his last "?" in HP.
Very very late but you can also use a seal gem. It can also work that way.
Did you use mods/cheats? Your demons have insane amounts of HP and stats, unless you've farmed for literally hundreds of hours or have cheated, this shouldn't be possible. Especially for a first playthrough. You'll need hundreds of incenses to have such stats on one demon but you managed to have several with ridiculous stats.
Since I can't imagine anyone sitting for hundreds of hours trying to get incenses via navigators, I think you most probably used a trainer or a cheatengine table to make your consumable don't decrease.
Why didn't you just use Onkyo-Ki essence?
You still need to cover for his 1 Weakness and he only has 3 Resistences. Trumpeter resists 6/7 Elements and I only had to slap the Null Phys on top.
So... More Resistances, same number of slots.
altough he's superboss the battle are far easier than digital devil saga

Yes 100%, even Satan is harder in DDS.
I used Yuzu, had no issues in 62 hours of gameplay.

SMT V started breaking after that update.
This is what I want to do before I finally put this game down for awhile but my problem is this:
My first save when the game came out was just a normal run and I didn't go for the secret ending (went law) until the 2nd cycle which I did, took like 80 hours.
After that I decided I want to get the secret ending on a new normal save first run which I also did, took maybe 40 hours.
After that I decided to do another new save on hard and get the secret ending which I also did, took about 60 hours. There were still 2 endings I never saw (chaos and neutral) so I decided to do one (chaos) and then get my original playthroughs ending (law) so I could get 100% compendium. I really sped through these 2 runs so it only added maybe 20 hours total to the save files. I'm at the end of the game with this save file now on the law ending and the only thing in the whole game I haven't done yet is the neutral ending and beat the demi fiend.
But when I look up the strats it involves so much farming, such specific setups with passives, etc I almost think I'd be better off starting a whole new save file again and tailoring my demon setups specifically for this single fight.
And dont get me started on the neutral ending. It seems 100% pointless after getting the secret ending 3 times, once in a 2nd cycle and twice on the 1st on normal and hard. I really have grown to dislike how much a joke the endgame is.
But I'm so burnt out at this point lol. My switch profile says I have over 215 hours in this game already and idk if I can do another 40 to 60 hours just for one boss fight. On the other hand it bothers me that I still have this left to do ngl. I've tried it maybe 30 times now on both normal and hard but I don't have enduring soul or abysmal mask on my MC or 90% of my party so I get chaotic willed around 4/5s of the way into the fight.
I probably need to just take a break and come back in a month or something, I know it's not hard to farm these skills. But like I said, I want to do it first run on a hard save file like you did. I just don't have it in me rn lol.
Oh damn lol, I just played this game once, I didn't do NG+ or anything, got the true ending on the first cycle, got all the Demons I could on the compendium (it's really shitty that they lock some to alignment) and beat Demi Fiend 3 times for good measure.
You're right, story and ending wise the game does feel half baked, I love SMT Nocturne and this game as well btu I don't feel compelled to go back to SMT V whatsoever.

And yea say what you want about smt4's story but at least things were actually different after the alignment lock.
Also some people are being a bit harsh when it comes to smtvs difficulty and the more I've played the more I tend to agree. Besides the very beginning and maybe the start of the 4th area (and the 2 super bosses) this game was basically a cake walk even on hard for me. I think its no random encounters and the ability to fast travel back to a savepoint. It really kills all the tension imo.
And the fact they actually nerfed that wind part of the demon king dungeon blows my mind lol.
@@itsaboy213 Yeah the game was piss easy as a whole for me from start to finish, battled demi fiend 4 times on hard mode and beat him 3, the first time took him to 5% HP, the AI is quite braindead and cheeseable.
@@Neverbloom that's awesome even with the games shortcomings. Had you gone into the demifiend and shiva bossfights totally blind or did u see some of the strats making the rounds? My biggest problem at first and the reason I made whole new save files was basically figuring out I focused one some things all throughout the fusion chain that were more or less useless.
@@itsaboy213 I did get Shiva by myself since I wanted to 100% all quests before finishing the game, I even fough Khonsu Ra (lv82) at level 69 lol.
For Demi Fiend I did see a couple of battles just out of curiosity not because I needed help and learned a bit before fighting him myself yep

Gaea Rage isn't a 100% trigger, It does trigger if you don't kill a character in 5 turns but it can also just come out randomly.

Sure, all Demons have a Resist/Null For their inherent weaknesses: For Example Odin and Zeus have Null Wind.
All of the important ones (Shiva, Amon, Odin, Zeus, Cleopatra, Idun, Danu, Metatron) have Enduring Soul.
The hitter Demons (Shiva, Amon, Odin, Zeus, Metatron) have both pleromas that boost their Damage (IE, Metatron and Shiva have Almighty Pleroma and High Almighty Pleroma, Amon has High Fire Pleroma and Fire Pleroma and so on).
They also have Critical Zealot equipped and High Life Spring as well as Murderous Glee.
That with their respective piercing/almighty moves covers all their slots.
For the healers (Cleopatra, Idun, Danu, etc...) it's a bit more complex since they accomplish different things.
Since Idun and Danu don't fully heal they have High Heal Pleroma and Heal Pleroma.
Cleopatra has Mediarahan which is a full Heal so there's no need for this.
Both Idun and Danu have Debilitate (Cleopatra doesn't since she has Frolic).
Cleopatra and Danu have Luster Candy (Idun doesn't since she has Golden Apples).
Other than that if you find a spot free you can either put on them High Life Spring and it's highly recommended to have Phys Block in a couple healers.
Most importantly don't neglect the sutras on your demons since MP is a big issue in this long fight, with demons like Amon and Shiva whose skills eat a lot of MP you want their affinities to their hitting skill to be maxed, for the healers as well since Luster Candy / Debilitate / Healing eats a lot of MP.
That's basically it.
Oh and I forgot, the Nahobino has Murakumo only as a hitting Skill then Almighty Pleroma and High Almighty Pleroma, Enduring Soul, Critical Zealot, High Life Spring, Null Phys and Murderous Glee.
However I think Murderous Glee / Critical Zealot is not very good for this fight.
As you can see I did not crit very often without the Omagatoki Skill. I would change them for the Passive Skill that minimizes Death Chances from Attacks (to avoid getting Chaotic Will'd) I forgot the name of the skill though.
