There is no greater sound in this life than "please welcome to the stage The Upright Citizens Brigade." Well, that and Poehler's laugh in person. I'm so grateful I was going to the theatre back when she still did them at least once a month.
UCB in NY back in the day. $2 PBR and all the improv you can eat.
Amy says they were free- and they were -but during college, every free weekly show was priceless to me, thanks UCB for all the laughs in NY.

Whoever went to this show got their fucking moneys (or times) worth. Damn what a cast. So glad I'm in NY and can pop into shows when I want.
I went to ASSSSCAT with my wife on a total whim while on vacation in NY - had no idea what UCBT was (yes, we're idiots). Waited like 4 hours, barely made it into standing room (we were probably the last couple of people let in). Hands down THE BEST experience of our entire trip. We totally geeked out the entire time. Amy & crew are amazing, we haven't stopped giggling about it since. and even the staff and audience members are great to talk to (what else do you do for 4 freakin hours in line?)
Friends-this is a must-see for comedy fans. Well done!

She definitely can speak the English language. So inspiring.
I did improv in highschool and now I do improv as a grad student in college. Each troupe plays asssscat. In highschool we watched this video every few months. Watching it for the first time in a few years today made me emotional. improv comedy is the closest thing I've ever come to being passionate about and this video captures the fun, the messy, and the family very well

I could never do what they do. I would have an anxiety attack at the sheer thought of having to go out on a stage full of people.

I was so nervous, but after just a scene or two, everything just melts away and you're there and doing it and quite possibly failing miserably, but you just don't care and it's so freeing. Michelle is right - try it! If you still don't feel comfortable, you don't have to join.

Unfortunately I didn't see Amy or any other big star when I was there this year. But either way it was still very funny. In a very expensive city like NYC you have very entertaining 2 hours for only 10 bucks.

I went to one where I recognized Neil Campbell on the back line. He was stressed. I should have stuck around to tell him I'm a big fan.
Next time I am in the city I am hoping to see a show. Does Amy still perform here at all? I would love to see her live. That would be a dream come true. :)

Man I wish I could go see this...
I guess NYC had a few UCB theaters and when I visited my pal for a week I can't tell you which one we went to. It had a narrow stairwell with glass display cases built into the walls on your way down with cool Comedy Central show memorabilia, like dolphin heads (HUMANS RULE! DOLPHINS CAN SUCK IT!) and things. Drank cans of PBR, saw some good comedy, and some awful monologues by guys doing racist shock humor ( I was the only guy laughing because he was so terrible no one else was laughing and I was laughing at that). After the show a random stage hand type guy offered to give me a little tour when I said I was from out of state and loved the show. I asked about the Hot Chicks Room and he said the original theater was shut down due to fire code or something and this was the 2nd theater. He said this theater didn't have a Hot Chicks Room but in honor of the Hot Chicks Room they decorated a door backstage where they kept extra kegs and cases of beer as the newly designated Hot Chicks Room. UCB was good times.
I am sad for Amy that she lost her nachos.
I'm just happy Nick was helping to scoop them up for her.

Truly amazing people performing art at its purest form. If you haven't been to see it, don't go. The line is way too long and you'll be crammed and the valet service steals your car and the room is super smoky and there is a chance that you'll be pick-pocketed. And it's really far away from where you're reading this. And you're on the no-fly list.

I think its good to have that many actors (from both political parties) in one room and NOT have everything be about Trump...neither Trump bashing nor Trump supporting...its sooo much fun to see and its a breath of fresh air!

like i know how they could afford it now, but how were they able to afford performing shows for free when none of them were famous or had money?
Most improv theaters make their money from classes.
+Sebastian Hernandez That's actually how the UCB improv school got started. The original UCB group needed a space to perform and a more stable way of paying for it (as they were all working part time, crashing with parents etc.) so they started teaching and basically accidentally started the most successful improv school in New York!
you have to pay for the 7:30 show, the 9:30 was free. they always have many other shows there that cost money as well
I love Chris Gethard, but The Killing is NOT a great show.
i don't like it when the audience is so obsessed that they laugh at anything, think it may be nerves from the audience wanting them to do well, but anyway.
But its cool you know, they ruin normal peoples lives by scrying humour and hating life
I hate to be a downer, but from the bits of the actual show I have seen, it is terrible. I am glad they are having fun, but it doesn't hold up at all.
Man, it would be so amazing to see all that talent on the stage! I feel like a stalker trying to find More Amy Poehler on the web these days LOL. I miss the character Kaitlin SO much, too! I've always wanted to ask Amy if that was her homage to Gilda and her Judy Miller or Lisa Luebner character. Thanks for the peek behind the curtain! Wish I could make it the UCB Theater on either coast. Maybe someday. Peace!
