- So we've go a Taiwanese exclusive here today. It's a new single malt Speysider from Benromach. It's sherried, it's peated, and it comes in at 57.8% abv. Big hitter! Cheers!

thanks for the recommendation, bought a carton of 6 bottles. trying the first dram, feeling good and exactly as you described. really good value.
Excellent reviews you make, I congratulate you, I have been following you for a while. I am about to acquire a veteran version of Benromach Cask Strength, distilled in June 2003 and bottled in June 2013, first fill bourbon barrels, 59.4% ABV. We will see how it is.
Thanks for watching! 🙏
An oldie eh? The brand has changed quite a bit in the last few years, so I'm sure it will be interesting to see how it has evolved over time. Enjoy!
Just bought this bottle today because of this review. Cant wait to get my hands on this bottle when it will be delivered tomorrow. Im also a fan of Sherry matured bottles
One of the better Taiwan exclusives imo. Hope you enjoy it!
This seems to be the most understated sherry bomb
才剛喝到新包裝15年,unexpectedly impressed!
Nice! 我也想试试看!
@Chengkai Liu 謝謝你!我的中文just還好。Personally I prefer the new bottles, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is what's inside the bottle! Cheers!
I wouldn't know Springbank from anything at all. I found Benromach from here when I went looking for a replacement for Highland Park Einar, a retail travel bottling not available anywhere outside of duty free shops. At first, I place an order for the ten year old. When I went back, I was told it might be some time, so I tracked down a local bottle of 15 and bought that. That was the best buy I've made in a long time and it was outside my budget at over $100 US. I'd love to get ahold of a younger release, but there is no 12 here, and the 10 is on back order. Your review set me right.
You got me on to Benromach, I’ve had the BENROMACH 2009 CASK STRENGTH BATCH 4 & 15yo, really enjoying it, they should give you sponsorship for the peeps you getting onboard to this brand.
Glad you like it!
Hah. Actually funny you should mention that because they did reach out to me to offer a bottle of the 15 for review. It was my first "bottle offer" from a brand. I accepted it and reviewed it, but it made me a little uncomfortable. It was a kind gesture, but I don't plan on reviewing any more brand-given bottles for the sake of objectivity.
I've had the 10 year old 100 proof (57% abv) and loved it (still have an unopened 2018 bottling) so happy they are continuing with this expression type.
Well this one specifically is a Taiwan exclusive, but the regular CS is excellent and as far as I know they'll keep putting out new batches. Cheers!
台灣真的這瓶CP值太好了。If any of you are in Taiwan or Japan, the Wild Turkey 12 year @50.5%abv is an export exclusive and affordable in Taiwan at around 1700ntd. It's the only bourbon I have among my whisky bottles but it's delicate and strong for a bourbon, worth it. 繼續加油G先生,改天我們喝一杯。
Sounds good, buddy!
I'll have to look out for that WT12. Cheers! 🥃
u should make a review of the springbank 12cs, the 2020 release is amazing ;) Nice video btw im enjoying ur new chanel! Greetings from Austria!
I appreciate the encouragement! I haven't seen the 2020 Springbank 12 in my local shops, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. Cheers!
Amazing bro! You are speaking Chinese in the end. I had the old batches of the 12 yo, delicious. I wonder when I can get one bottle of this new batch.
It's quite widely available if you're in Taiwan, and the quality to price ratio is fantastic! Best Benromach in the line for value!
great review!! I had a nice tasting session of four Benromachs, and this 12 CS is quite special. It is even better if you drop water into it .
Agree! It gets much fruitier and more delicate! 🥃
Do you have the chance to compare this 12 CS with vintage 2010CS batch 1 ? Just curious!
@@chentim1751 Not yet, unfortunately. I haven't seen the batch 1 out in Taipei yet...
Benromach rules!
Good stuff
Thanks!
Had the Benromach Cask Strength Batch 4, I can see the Springbank comparison. It had the same problem as spring bank for me, it had an oak tannin flavour I didn't like, I ended up blending my Benromach 50/50 with Cask Strength Kilchoman Machir Bay and it turned in to something beautiful
Whatever works! 🥃
Hi geoff. Jon from Manila, Philippines here. Saw this bottle in my neck of the woods recently and made a purchase soon as you mentioned it was a Taiwan exclusive. Thanks for the review. Didn't regret a single sip. It's sooooo gooood. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts about how this holds up to Lediag. I certainly can't seem to decide which one i like more.
You mean this vs Ledaig 10? I definitely prefer this. Glad you were able to snag a bottle down in the Philippines. Didn't realize it was available there. Sarap!
Managed to get one of these here in the Philippines. Having this as I'm writing this comment. I didn't quite enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Hopefully it was just the neck pour. But a few drops of water opened up the nose, brought out more sweetness, which I really liked.
Yes this one opens up beautifully. It's quite cheap here in Taiwan, too, so I find the value with this one really impressive. I hope you warm up to it!
It sounds interesting!...
I can only get the older bottle of Benromach 10 or the newer Benromach 15.
I wonder if the 15 yo comes somewhat close to this cask strength...
It seems to be matured mostly in first fill sherry casks.
It's much closer to the standard Cask Strength Benromach than the 15, which is much more calm and refined. All delicious, though. I'll take Benromach any which way. 🥃
It remind me of the Aberlour A’Bunadh No.66, but as you said, it’s more rugged.I’m curious about why they have special release for Taiwan in cask strength.good video!
I don't know. I guess because Taiwan is a big whisky market. Not only does Taiwan buy a lot of whisky, consumers here are very informed. We get a lot of great special releases. Have you tried the Glenlivet 13 Cask Strength? Beautiful stuff!
Thanks for your recommendation, however the price of CS version is double as the original one. I would like to try it in the whisky bar after this wave of COVID-19
Pricier, yeah. But absolutely delicious. Worth checking out when we get past these level 3 precautions. Stay safe!
Just tried this and this is so great absolutely love it. Can you recommend some whisky that also have strength and complexity like Benromach 12 cask strength?
The closest thing to this is the Springbank 12, although sadly that's MUCH more expensive nowadays. Very few other sherried cask strength whiskies integrate a subtle farmy peat note. 🥃
This!
Many taiwan online liquor shop describe Benromach as like one of pretty speysiders, now i know it's not that case, thanks! Besides rugged/farmy, Springbank is a bit sour like vinegar/sweat, is Benromach having that sulphury quality? haha just feel so friendly as a Taiwanese at 9:12
Yeah I don't think this is "pretty" at all. Very strange choice of descriptions for this! Hah glad you're enjoying the vids. Appreciate all your comments!
Hi Geoff, have you had the chance to try the 57.4% version of this (also a Taiwan exclusive). Wondering about your general thoughts on it if you have had the chance to try it.
Hi Marc, no I haven't, unfortunately. Was it with the old bottle presentation?
@@Gwhisky No, it looks like it might be the newest batch. I live in mainland China and recently saw it pop up over here.
Would be good to get your views on the benromach batch 4 cask strength
Not a bad idea! I'll keep an eye out for that one!
@@Gwhisky Legend, cheers mate. Us mortals outside taiwan cant get our hands on the 12 cask strength lol
Hi Geoff, some family of mine will travel to Taipei and I want to ask them to bring back some whisky. Do you have any advice as to where to find this Benromach 12 Cask Strength? Retail store recommendations? I also heard about a Glenlivet 15 Year 2023 Sherry Cask Strength Taiwan exclusive. Is the Benromach still available around the $1,400NT price? Or how much the Glenlivet might be? I appreciate your videos and any help. Thanks in advance. P.S. I also now do that hand gesture when I want to focus on the finish
I'd check a place called "晶酒坊." You can also check "風格菸酒大安店" as well as a chain called "酒條通." Benromach 12 should be around $1,600 NT nowadays. The Glenlivet 15 is a bit overpriced imo at $5,200+ in most shops. Both bottles should be quite easy to find for now. Cheers Timothy. 🥃
@@Gwhisky Thanks Geoff, any other advice on exclusives (other than local Kalavan & Omar) or other great values in Taiwan? What a whisky paradise you live at! Who knew half a world away from Scotland and Scotch prices can be better there?
Hmm, no other Taiwan exclusives are "must haves" here imo. You could check some of the shops websites in advance. There a website called 609 dot com dot tw that will give you a good idea about selection and prices here.
You're right... a great place to be for whisky lovers! 🥃
Sadly, the new versions of this are quite different. 60.3% alcohol but way less complexity and sherry influence. This older version was one of my favorites.
Yeah I tried a more recent one. Still good, but not as good as some of the earlier batches. 🥃
I’m curious about when you guys say it tastes like chocolate, it means the taste is sweet, bitter, or sour? Or just chocolate 😂. Maybe you can name the brand of chocolate.
I use chocolate just as a general description of that kind of flavour. If it's sweeter I will say milk chocolate and if it's bitter I'll probably say dark chocolate. Thanks for the comment!
What brought you to Taiwan?
An airplane! 😉
Kidding. I was young and was travelling around the world teaching English at the time. I ended up loving the place and opted to stay long term.
@@Gwhisky hahaha funny funny
@@Gwhisky Nice, I' think I'd like to visit one day
