I’m 73 and have had urge incontinence since I was in my mid-30s. The public humiliation from accidents has been demoralizing. Never been pregnant. I paid a pelvic floor physical therapist more than $1,000 to help me and got no help whatsoever. All she did was “teach” me the old way of doing Kegels, which I already knew. I have seen three urologists, who offered nothing more than medication, which helped a little bit but the side effects were unbearable. The last urologist injected Botox into my bladder, twice, which resulted in turning on a faucet over which I had no control. It wore, off, thank heavens, but I then had to use catheters for a while. No one has ever offered the information you do. You’re the first person to offer me any hope.

I’ve never had kids but have had this issue throughout my life since I was a child, and I’m now 43. I don’t have the urgency thing but I pee like 20+ times a day and have leakage issues w/coughing, jumping, getting excited, sneezing, laughing, etc. This video was so helpful and rich with info, but what was especially eyeopening that I’d never heard of was the “just in case” peeing and retraining my bladder! Wow, that is so me. I literally say this to anyone around that I gotta go “just in case” before leaving the house or going to sleep, even when there’s like almost no urine to release but a few drops. I’ve been doing this forever, so maybe that’s what’s causing my issues (or at least partly). Maybe I don’t have a bad bladder but a bad relationship with my bladder. What a great distinction you made! I get extremely nervous if I think I won’t be able to find a bathroom so maybe a big part of my problem is a mental thing. This is truly gamechanging I think.

Thank you for this. After my hysterectomy 3 months ago, I have struggled with urgency. Just as I listen to this, my bladder is acting like it needs to go. ...I went literally 15mins ago. A couple kegels usually help me and literally "talking" to my bladder. "I hear you, Bladder. You don't need to go right now until you have 10seconds of pee in there." After doing this a lot and counting how long I pee has helped a lot. My bladder has an idea of at least 10seconds (my goal is 15seconds).
Edit: 10 seconds of pee = 10 second stream of peeing

Thank you for this! I'm a "just in case" pee-er.
I'm 45 years old. Had an abdominal hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. Before that, I peed Alot And blamed my over size uterus. When at the gym, low sitting squats made me pee a little every. Single. Time. NOW it takes me forever to void. I sit and it seems the pee will never stop...I should see a pelvic floor therapist like you said.

Thank you so much for all this valuable information. I've been struggling on and off for years with stress and urge continence. I had it before childbirth but worsened thereafter .. mine flares up during times of stress and trauma, I notice it will happen when my muscles and bones in my pelvic region and neck and shoulders flare up also .. I have booked in with my GP next week to get a referral to see a women's physiotherapist specialising in pelvic floor... I can't wait to finally, after all these years get really proactive about managing it!

Wow! You are the best, Jessica. I recently found out that part of my issue is caused by me constantly keeping my pelvic floor contracted. I thought I was doing the right thing, when in reality I was causing myself a problem. Thank you for sharing such valuable experience and knowledge with your followers. Your info and exercises are safe and effective. That means so much!

    • @loriwilliamson5738

@@zoeletlive I have to consciously remind myself to relax my pelvic floor. I had to say in my head "inhale/relax pelvic floor; exhale/contract". On walks, or car rides - anytime I think about it. It helped me tremendously. Recently I thought I was so much better I didn't need to focus on reminding myself anymore so I backed off from doing it. I was wrong. Back to reminding myself. Gotta get that control back.

Such great information. I was told by my doctor to try and time going to the bathroom. She suggested 2 hour intervals in order to 'train' my bladder. Do you agree or have another suggestion. I also have accidents after just sitting for a long time,, getting up and peeing! Again thank you for all your wonderful advice.

66 yrs old. Had a mild prolapse for a few yrs - never had "ANY urine LEAKAGE" at all. Finally decided to have the prolapse surgery bf I got too old; w hysterectomy/prolapse sling. After surgery I now have Severe stress urinary incontinence! When I walk, talk, cough, bend, clear my throat, etc, I spurt urine. It is never-ending and not tiny amounts. And it is soooo hard to deal with. Almost impossible I find. I just had another appt with the gyne urologist. They are now going to do the bladder sling surgery.... I hoped for just a bulking procedure, but she said no to that. So, off I go to hope for another bladder surgery to help a new issue. I am hoping for the best but knowing the worst may happen again. It is mentally exhausting and damaging, don't think I'll ever feel the same or normal. I find my every day wishing I just waited to have the prolapse surgery.
Thank you for your candidness and help...

Hello Jessica, thank you so much for sharing your story, it's indeed very reassuring... one question - I was diagnosed with stage 2 bladder prolapse 3 weeks after giving birth to my child, with a comment that the ligament is damaged. Is it true that in this case Kegels will not help me and all I can do is pessary and then the surgery ? Thank you

    My life since 30 , now 55 yrs .
I often wet myself without realising , I have no control over pelvic muscles .Trying to hold acts like squeezing a sponge .
Kegals had no effect , I had advice when lived at home in UK .
Was told large babies delivered with forceps probably did some damage .
Specialists not an option where I live now , even a simple eye check is not available at an optician : not seen a dr in 5 yrs .

I had a hysterectomy in Nov 2021, I'm 32 years old. In May 2022 I went bowling and the next day all my pelvic floor muscles were going crazy and I was experiencing leaking. As of today, I experience slow leaking through the day. Its worse when im sitting. I can ciugh or sneeze and hold it in with no leaks. My pelvic floor physio confirmed my muscles are good. What could this be? I've been doing toilet yoga and the double void to try make sure I'm emptying my bladder. I'm doing my pelvic floor exercises. I have no clue what else to try and do to resolve this 😥

Hi, I just wanted to reply to your comment as I’m dealing with a very similar problem. I’m 30 and have just suddenly started experiencing urgency incontinence. I’ve never had children. I have scoliosis curvature of the spine which is likely the cause in my case. So it may be worth getting your back checked as back problems can cause it. I hope this helps a bit and please know your not alone. I’ve been struggling with this emotionally too and know it’s very difficult.

I just don't understand why I already have this since i was 11 (now im 15)... I hate myself so much, it happenned today in class when I was laughing. Thankfully no one saw, but this happens everytime I laugh. I'm now just thinking abt becoming the depressive teen girl that's always mad yk.. I just don't wanna laugh anymore, it's so gross. And it happens at home too, whenever I laugh at someone, watch something etc etc. It's so annoying, i feel like i'm handicapped.. And what happens if i'm going to give birth when i'm older? Will it be worse? Bc now it's litterally so bad, today almost my whole skirt was wet... I just don't know what to do about it.....
