    I could totally see you having a show on the food network or travel channel, going to these destinations & getting into the cultural history & significance of the different fruits, getting into the different properties/health benefits of each fruit, science vs folk remedy.... All things you touch on now, but it would be cool to see how far you could take it with a network budget!

      That's the dream, here's hoping one day that call comes in.

    Mmmm i love the orange ones. Everything tastes better when it's been ripened on the plant.

      You are right! A lot of fruits we found are not correctly ripened and the flavor is not the ideal!

    Next time, search for the green variety (tuna verde), it has green skin and white pulp, with the flavour of mint milk. It's the best.

      They are kind of seedy -- right? They grow wild next to our home and I like them, but I don't care much for the big seeds.

    be careful handling prickly pears. Even if the large spines are brushed off, their can be tinny thorns still left over that can give pretty annoying splinters.

  • @tanyawales5445
    @tanyawales5445 10 месяцев назад

    The prickly pear plant (Opuntia) beside the fruit, tunas, also have edible pads that can be eaten as a vegetable. Once the skins including the spines and glochids are removed the pads can be cut up into strips and cooked. The nopales taste like tart green beans. Opuntias can have wicked spines. I recommend growing spineless varieties of Opuntias for that reason. You still have to deal with the glochids which are fine hairs that can burrow into the skin when preparing the nopales and tunas for eating.

    The tropical fruits we get in the grocery stores here in Michigan are either under ripe or have passed it by. I started growing white strawberries(pineberries) last year and until this year, I would have agreed with you that they weren't that special. At most the few I had last year tasted like strawberries. This year I had some that did have hints of pineapple flavor. Store bought fruit usually tastes like it was grown in the store. I look forward to your next video.

      Thanks! Interesting to hear that you at least got some hints of pinapple taste in your pineberries

    Have you reviewed the yellow dragon fruit yet? The one that has spikes on the fruit itself? If not, I suggest you find one while you're in south america. They are RIDICULOUSLY sweet. I love them so much!

    I really love prickly pear. Are orange ones better than the green ones? I feel like the red ones don't taste that great.

    • @WeirdExplorer
      @WeirdExplorer  7 лет назад +1

      I thought so. I've had the green ones a few times and I found them bland. Could just be how ripe they were compared to this one though.

    By the way, can you try wild grape leaves? You will find them in the wild. I tried them and they taste very tangy and good. It has a tiny taste of grape. It's so nice! It's nice to have it once in a while!

    did you eat just fresh fruit?? or do you eat juice fruit?? in my country a lot of fruits must be eaten as juice to taste good, sure, you can eat "out of the tree" but are better as juice, for example, have you ever tried guayaba? Curuba? nispero? (the last one is hideous when is "fruit", it's much better as juice), borojó, and so on.

    • @WeirdExplorer
      @WeirdExplorer  7 лет назад +1

      I am after all fruits! If its something intended to be enjoyed as a juice, I'll try and track the juice down as well. I have had those except for borojo.

    Hi Jared,
    Any chance of seed of the orange, tasty variety? I have benches and benches of cactus seedlings.
    Also, my heirloom grapes are coming ripe.
    Delicatessen, Triumph, Golden Muscat, Muscat Hamburg, etc.
    Let me know if you want to try.
    (Unless you're out of the country.)
