@@philberto78Yeah the MSG video revealed the game can be used to play copied discs without riskig damage to the main game disc using a very isolated cheat code. the main reason this is rising is due to scalpers cashing in on the rush in popularity and other scalpers upping the prices it should stablize after it dies down. Maybe not in the low 10-20 dollar/euro range anymore but certainly not this high of a price like 50-100 on average i can see it.
Phil It’s always fun to see how crazy older game prices become after a few years wether it be new, old or used its just cool to see as well as people get to update the value on their collection too.
Yeah it can be pretty crazy to see, and I always wonder why certain games suddenly go up in price. It must just be that somewhere on the internet people are suddenly talking about it and raising peoples' interest. Also even though I don't plan on selling any of my games I always enjoy seeing them go up in value haha
@@philberto78 i feel the same way but honestly and im not saying this to talk bad about others but i use to watch bigger RUclipsrs before i even started my channel and i used to be so fascinated with their finds and how cheap they get it and reveals how much it truly is specially in the retrospect of games. @@Fit2PlayGames I've heard other people disgusted with these kinds of youtubers as well. I don't watch them but things do sound pretty pathetic indeed if people are tossing money at them. It was watching youtubers back then like Happy Console Gamer that originally got me back into collecting again after many years. Prices wont go down....not anytime soon. Supply and demand then add in a failing currency. Its gonna take quite a few years to change when people who grew up with ps1 stop caring about the nostalgia.
PS1 game prices are getting out of hand for sure! I'm lucky enough to have a reseller friend who gives me deals on some of those jrpgs that I want to play but I still pay a pretty penny for them! Which is why I rarely pick them up! That's why I've switched my focus to the OG Xbox as people are starting to catch up but there are still some good deals to get! I just want to get ahead of the curve for once lol! Great video and keep up the good work!
That's a good idea, I've heard other people also say they're now going for the original Xbox titles they want. It's weird how the PS2 version of a game will usually be much more expensive than the xbox version, and often the xbox version looks better!
I've got all the PS1 games (PAL region) I want with the exception of Castlevania:SotN and Alien Resurrection. I cannot believe how expensive Castlevania is - I'm sure this wasn't a rare game so why the ridiculous price?
You shouldn't view the prices of video games through the lens of a fianacial asset like a stock, bond etc. The actual market for these games is fragmented and supply is low enough that it can be manipulated to distort prices by one person. Take the gameboy game Rampart. One guy did an experiment to see if he could manipulate the price market for one game. Rampart was that game and it was a cheap until he started buying up all the supply of them on ebay at $5-$15. I think he got like 20-25 copies over a year period but in the process raised the price floor of this game. He admitted it in an email to doing it on the CUpodcast and even tried to dump all the copies when he saw what happened but it was too late at that point (you can still watch the segment i think on RUclips).
Yeah I remember that crazy Rampart guy story, he found the perfect game to do that with. I guess he got what he deserved in the end though haha. You're right about a game price being more susceptible to manipulation than a stock because it's on a much smaller scale, but games are still influenced by market forces too. I'm a stock trader so I just have fun watching the trends and imagining what causes a certain game to start going up or down. Sometimes it's not really a trend but just one person suddenly paying double what the game usually goes for. Then Pricecharting shows the game being way overvalued. That's why I left some games off the list when I realized it was only half a dozen sales that affected the value for the year.
Fortunately almost all of these games I've either never heard of or interest me at all with exception of "Ray Tracers" which I might try & get as I enjoy collecting Playstation racing games overall. Ironically some big RUclipsr mentioned it recently which most likely explains the big hike & frankly between the Metal Jesus "Hidden Gems" factor as well as big RUclipsrs & especially the increased advent of "re-sellers" flooding the YT viewers like the Phoenix Re-seller in particular are very much responsible for the faux inflated price hikes as I touched on this dynamic recently in a rant. It saddens me that several games & strategy guides I've had to cross off my list simply because of these YT inspired feeding frenzy that goes down because of "influencers", tragic as collecting has little to do with buying games to actually play instead of the compulsive hoarding going on today bud which ruins building our library of games to sit down & enjoy.
Ray Tracers is interesting but I wouldn't recommend anyone paying 70 bucks for it. Was it Metal Jesus or some other youtuber that was talking about it and made the price go up? Yeah that Phoenix resell guy is pretty disgusting to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if I've seen him just in passing as I've been out game hunting. Who knows, he might be the reason it's so hard for me to find stuff these days.
@@philberto78 My memory is crap right now but I saw someone big on YT raving about it. I bet that Phoenix guy has raped every local store out of valuable games, it's what they live for bud.
I bought Alien Resurrection a couple of years ago for only 10 euros it is amazing how it just sky rocketed in price.
Yes that was wild how it jumped like that. I was told by vinniecorleone that it was because a big youtuber did a long video on it.

Simpsons Wrestling is one of the worst games for the PS1. Its notariety for that fact may be why it rose in value.
